I have tried several times, and can't install VMware Player on my Win7 x64 Home Premium notebook. VMware Player.msi won't run. ( I had no problems installing it on my desktop, however.) Here's the fail section of the log file:

VMPlayer 6.0.3 and shared folders in (Network drive on Win7) : Crash / Blue screen of death

After updating to newest VMPlayer I observe an complete Crash of Windows 7 (Host).

I can only see a part of the message, something with "Bad Pool ..."

I have 2 shared folder in my Ubuntu Linux - one is at the local PC, the other is a mounted folder from a Server (network folder)

An an Access to the network folder causes a crash / Blue Screen.

Anything I can do?

How to block emails but not browsing?

Hi, not sure if my Guest Player (XP Home) has a virus or not, but yesterday I saw a quick error message with something like "Unable to email the file ...something... to ...somewhere..." I didn't see the message long enough to read the file name or the "to" address and the message was gone.

I did a virus scan with MBam and Msoft Malicious Tools Scan and it all showed clear. I removed all Comodo "Trusted Files" and "Trusted Vendors" except the msoft ones so that I could see what would ask for Internet access. Nothing has asked since that error message.

Whatever it was, I do not need it emailing files home. I never use this Guest for email as I use my phone for that and I would like to block all emails on this laptop. I do sometimes check for incoming emails on the Guest so would like to leave that unblocked, but can live with blocking both incoming and outgoing emails if I have to.

I still need Internet access for browsing, I don't visit dubious sites, so if it is a virus it came from a creditable source, so, how can I block emails only?

I am retired on a Post-Enron (ba5tards) income and can't afford to buy a later version of windows, so that's not an option for me.

Thanks.

Cannot "ls" the contents of a shared folder in Fedora 16/20 Guest running in Windows 7 host

I recently installed VMware Player 6.0.3 on Windows 7 64-bit and migrated a working 32-bit Fedora 16 VM into that environment.  I successfully compiled and installed VMware Tools 9.6.2.31837 and can see my shared folders in /mnt/hgfs as expected.   I can successfully create, move and delete files or directories in the shared folder, but trying to list the contents of that folder via ls yields "Operation not supported"!  This VM used to work in VMware Player 4.0.x.  The bad thing about this is that I cannot "rsync" folders in my VM to this shared folder.

Here's a simple example.

[perforce@vega engineering]$ mkdir zap

[perforce@vega engineering]$ cd zap

[perforce@vega zap]$ echo >test.text

[perforce@vega zap]$ ls -l

ls: cannot open directory .: Operation not supported

Thinking this might be a problem with Fedora 16 where getting VMware Tools working was not straightforward, to say the least, I decided to create a Fedora 20 64-bit VM and try that.

Once again, getting VMware Tools compiled and installed, required patching VMware Tools, but I eventually succeeded.  However, I ended up in exactly the same situation described above.  It almost works, except that I cannot list the contents of the shared folder.

Does anybody know of a solution to this problem?   Given that it happens identically in Fedora 16 32-bit and Fedora 20 64 bit, it would seem to be a problem with VMware Tools, but that is just a guess.

BTW, the shared folder is on a D-Link 321 NetBackup device.  My Windows machines do not have any problem seeing the folder on this device.

Any known solution would be appreciated.

Question Regarding Video Drivers and VMWare Player

I am running Debian testing as my base system, and I have VMware Player 4.0.4 build-744019 running Windows 7 Home Premium. It all works great. My question is more about how VMware Player works.

I have Steam for both Linux and Windows using the same account. I downloaded the Linux version of Civilization V, and it crashed on startup in Linux. After some investigation, I found that my linux driver for the Intel Mobile Gm45 Chipset only supports opengl 2.1, and the game needs 3.0+. I then tried the game using VMPlayer and Windows and my same steam account... and to my surprise it worked! I was surprised, because I didn't expect VMPlayer to drive the hardware directly, but instead, use the native video drivers.

Can someone explain why the game runs in VMplayer and Windows, and not naively in Linux on the same machine?

Thanks,

Mark

Problems installing Windows 7 on a VM in VMWare Player

$

Hi, I've been trying to install Windows 7 from a DVD onto a VM in VMware Player. I am able to get partway through the installation process then receive the message "The computer started using the Windows installation disc. Remove the installation disc and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally. Then insert the installation disc and restart the upgrade." I followed those directions, and the scenario repeated itself. The VM doesn't recognize an operating system. Does anyone know what might be going on? I'm unfortunately short on time, since this is being done for a class. Any assistance would be appreciated!

VMWare Player Network settings issue

Dear Team,

I have VMWare Player installed with Red Hat Linux as Guest VM.  Currently, the VMware Network Configuration is set to “bridged” mode.

What works:

  1. Ping to VM from local and remote host.
  2. SSH from the host to Guest VM IP

What does not work:

  1. 1.    SSH from remote host to Guest VM IP

For our project, we need to have remote connectivity to the Guest VM from HCL network for working with the Customer product.

From Google search, it appears that this limitation was observed by other users as well and have been raised as queries.

Based on the inputs provided in the URL below, I updated the network card associated with VMnet0 to appropriate one instead of the default automatic value.

http://www.serverwatch.com/server-tutorials/how-to-fix-a-vmware-player-bridged-network.html

Similar information is discussed in other URLs. But, remote SSH to VMware Guest VM IP is still unsuccessful.

My desktop IP: 10.105.133.76

Remote Desktop IP: 10.105.133.80

VM IP: 10.105.133.85

This is important and needs to be resolved quickly for the team to work with the VM.

Kindly support and provide inputs for resolving this issue asap.  Your inputs will be highly valuable. Thanks !!

The adpaters are activated. I didn't change anything there too:

So why is internet not working? Thx in advance.

Problem installing Player for XP-Mode on new HDD

Had to replace a damaged hard-disk and try now to install the player on the new one. I had no problem installing the player.

Next I tried to download the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone. It seems that I cannot download it from the Web-page because I downloaded it already before. When I press the link "manually download" the Web-page jumps to the top showing the "Welcome .." with the link to the list of previous downloads. I then copied the previous install-file from the damaged to the new HDD and run the installation but this ends with

Error 29163. Could not copy file

C:\Users\....\AppData\Local\Temp\converter-client.xml

How can I install the Converter and afterwards also the Tools?

Thanks

Setting static MAC address

Hi,

Is it possible to set a static MAC address for a VM when using VMware Player? I tried to follow these instructions for VMware Workstation:

Maintaining and Changing the MAC Address of a Virtual Machine

but when I start the VM, the changes I made to the vmx file get overwritten, and I'm back to the original MAC address.

Thanks

VMware Player 6 crashes with SIGABRT

Hello,

One of my VMware Player 6 instance faces frequent crashes.

Crash happens always for /usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-vmx and apport reports that vmware-vmx crashed with SIGABART in malloc_consolidate().

Detailed report is given by apport (sorry, I cannot transfer here as the crash report does not accept copy-and-paste).

The crash always happens during startup of my virtual machine. After the crash, almost of capability of VMware Player 6 is lost, requiring reboot to re-use VMware Player again. And re-installation of VMware Player did not get things better. Does anyone point out appropriate suggestion ? Thanks.

Here is data of my (virtual and firm) computer.

VMs freeze on VMware Player 6.0.3.

I've been having an issue with VMware Player 6.0.3. All my hosts freeze up eventually after a period of time. This seems to happen more often with my Linux VM as opposed to my windows VM. Both are getting very annoying.

I've tried adjusting memory and usage but all that doesn't seem to work.

My only temporary workaround is pausing the VMs and running them again. Graphics performance is poor afterwards.

Anyone experience anything like this?

Please help me figure out this problem". Also it mentions "Binary translation is incompatible with long mode on this platform."

Please help me understand this issue.

Script error when trying to install VMware Player on Windows 8 Laptop

I have downloaded version 6.01 of VMware Player onto the Desktop of my Windows 8 laptop but everytime I try to install it I get the following error...

An error has occurred in the script on this page

Line:   1089

Char:   7

Error:   Expected ')'

Code:   0

URL:  file:///C:/Users/DG's/AppData/Local/Temp/vmware_1387286925/index.htm?lang=1033&locale=1033

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Yes/No

I have followed the Knowledgebase article advising me to clear out my browsing history and cache and try downloading again but nothing changes.

If I click Yes or No the install window goes blank and my Laptops fan starts running but nothing appears to be happening. If I try to abort the installation by right clicking the VM taskbar icon I get a message telling me an installation is in progress and to wait until this finishes...I have waited over an hour and the nearest I have got to an installation is an empty VMware Folder in My Documents.

Can anyone help me please.

I can't use a card reader on vmware

Hi all.

I'm a new member and i have a problem.

I'm using vmware with Win7, on my host PC i have 3 network connections, but i only can see 2 in my virtual machine.

The connection that i have the problem is for to connect a CardReader that needs to be connected with an ethernet cable using an ip 192.168.0.254, when i run cmd and i type "ping 192.168.0.254" it pings ok, but the reader application can't see my card reader.

I made a vmware network adapter setting the IP address that i need, but it doesn't work.

The card reader that i want to connect is UltraSmart (this reader uses a .ini file that sets the IP base and IP address, but i can't change data from the file because this data have been configured in reader's firmware

How can i do to make vmware recognize this card reader?

Could you help me with this issue, please?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Best regards!

Shrink a Guest but SysPrep errors - help please

Hi,

Host win8.0 and the Virtual Machine is located on D: drive. The Guest is XP Home and has grown to a size where I can  no longer back it up to a 32G SD card. I have stripped out a lot (12GB) of stuff I don't need, cleared the Trash and now want to shrink the VM down some.

I did a search here on "shrinking" and have installed the latest Converter. I navigated to the D:\myVMachine\winXP.vmx and after thinking a while the Converter returns an error,

"Unable to find the required Sysprep files. Upload them to c:\ProgramData\VMWare\VMWare vCenter Converter Standalone\sysprep\xp on the Converter server."

I clicked Help and it was no help at all. Nothing there remotely related to the errors.

What do I need to do to get shrinking working?

Thanks

WIN7 locks inputs

Hello all,

I run several VMs with different Windows versions (2k, XP, Win7) - not all of them together of course, normally only one VM. Some days ago I upgraded my host from Kubuntu12.04 to Kubuntu14.04. Since that upgrade my win7 locks keyboard and sometimes also mouse after I login to Windows. When I don't release the Inputs (ctrl+ALT) before this lock in Windows happens, the host inputs are locked too. I only once had not input lock, when I logged in as Admininstrator. i use the latest Player version the the latest VMware-tools.

Is there anybody who can help me avoid this problem?

I have been searching a great deal and have had trouble finding a Player manual that goes into a bit more detail on installing operating systems. The Workstation manual seems to have more detail about his. Is it valid for Player?
