Is there any other way to increase graphics in VMware player with windows 98 installed ? Is there any download for 3d graphics ?

Graphic oddity - "start" button cut off at left edge

I've noticed that the "start" menu button of Peppermint Linux in VMWare Player is "cut off" at the left edge - it should appear as an entire round icon, but shows only its right half. I've not been able as yet to find a setting to adjust this. Has anyone else seen anything similar? Did you find a solution? I'm including a screenshot.

bridged network not working

Hi,

I am using VMware-player-7.0.0-2305329, when i configure bridged network configuration to connect to the local-host network, it won't connect and its not even throwing any errors in VMLog as well as in Event Viewer.

Local system configuration:

windows 8

intel core i3-3220 @3.3GHZ processor

8 gb RAM

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Ver. 8.21.909.2013

Guest System Configuration:

Windows Server 2008 R2

6GB Ram

here's what i have tried to resolve this problem.

1. uninstalled and installed VMWare bridge Protocol in local host network properties.

2. uninstalled vmware player and all the instances from c drive and registry and cleaned using Registry cleaner, restarted the system and installed newer version of VMware Player but still same problem exist.

3. reinstalled VMWare tools in guest OS.

so what u guys think about this problem, is there any solution????

Thanks in advance,

Jithendra.

NAT: DNS returns bogus entries

Almost the same thing as a few years ago happened:

server 1.0.10 NAT: DNS not working

xerces8 wrote (Nov 2, 2009 1:40 PM):

I just updated VMWare Server from 1.0.9 to 1.0.10 and now DNS does not work in guest that have set up NAT networking.

Tried Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10, also Windows XP. All using default (automatic) network settings.

I can ping any numerical address, but DNS resolution does not work.

If I set manually a DNS server offered by my ISP in the guests, then it works.

Is this some regression with 1.0.10 ? I'm sure the same VM worked before the update.

Regards,

David

This time I was using VMWare Player 5.0.2 on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.

I had a few VMs working fine.

Then I updated to Player 6.0.0, created a new VM for Windows8 and installed Windows 8.1 Preview into it.

There I noticed tha DNS does not work;

- ping 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS server) - works

- nslookup www.najdi.si returns:

C:\Users\stein>nslookup www.najdi.si
Server:  UnKnown
Address:  192.168.91.2
Name:    www.najdi.si.localdomain
Addresses:  89.143.229.238

- ping www.najdi.si gives:

Ping request could not find host www.najdi.si. Please check the name and try again.

- ipconfig /all output:

C:\Users\stein>ipconfig /all

A Ubuntu guest VM also had problems with DNS resolution (worked fine before), so I decided to revert back to Player version 5.0.2.

It did not help, so I uninstalled it, cleaned up ( "Manually cleaning a Windows system" at VMware KB: Cleaning up after an incomplete uninstallation on a Windows host ) and then reinstalled Player v5.0.2.

After that a quick test with http://www.sysresccd.org ISO worked, but when I tried the Windows 8.1 VM the problems started again.

I started the SystemRescueCd again and I got:

% ping rtv.si
PING rtv.si.localdomain (91.185.213.134) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 91.185.213.134: icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=13.1 ms
64 bytes from 91.185.213.134: icmp_seq=2 ttl=128 time=13.9 ms

This is slightly better, but still not correct (it should say "PING rtv.si" , not "PING rtv.si.localdomain").

It seems the DNS server of VMWare Player is sending broken replies.

Any idea how to resolve this?

VMWare Player Installation Problems

Hello,

I'm having trouble to install VM Ware Player on my Windows 7 64 bit home

I downloaded the following file:

79.112.888 VMware-player-7.0.0-2305329.exe

and tried to execute it for installing VMWare Player.

But it does not work.

I'm executing the Program as an Administrator in a Command Prompt.

Simply running it (without arguments) results in the following message Window:

VMWare-player 7.0.0.2305329

Error: This product can only be installed on 64Bit Windows 7 or newer Operating systems.

running:

VMware-player-7.0.0-2305329.exe /x

Results in

VMWare-player 7.0.0.2305329

The MSI '' failed

Source file not found :

C:\Windows/Installer/Core.cab

Verify that the file exists and you can access it.

This comes up if i'm selecting the 'Remove' option

Selecting the Repair Option results in:

The MSI

'C:\Users\hugo\AppData\Local\Temp\vmware_1423841713\vmwareplayer.msi'

failed.

Service 'VMWare Authorisation Service' (VMAuthDService) failed to start.

Veriy that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

What else can i do in this case ?

thanks,

However the VMware player seem to work properly, today I found out that just for a moment this error appear before standard Welcome page appear So this is the error:

Could not load Puppet: no such file to load -- Puppet

Puppet_jpg.jpg

This appears only just for a second, and then standart welcome page appear

I don't know how to fix this problem and I am realy desperate, so please If anybody know how to around this please let me know.

I want to boot from a USB stick and I need those controls:

But on my VMware Player those do not show up. Is there a setting I have to make in order to get those.

Virtual Machine performance degradation, when resizing host window

0
0

Setup:

Intel i7-4770, Asrock Z87 extreme MB, 16GB RAM, Intel 330 SSD (system), 640GB WD hard drive (storage).

Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate x64 , latest updates/drivers

VMware Player 7

VM setup:

Created virtual machine with settings:

2GB vRAM

1 vCPU/vCore (I also tested with 2 vCPU - same result)

30GB virtual hard disk (SCSI)

CD/DVD (SATA)

Network - default NAT

USB Controller: tested with USB v2.0 (with v3.0 - same result)

Display - 1024 x 768 fixed resolution without 3D acceleration.

Use case:

Within the VM:

1. I installed the latest Ubuntu Server 12.04.1 (x64) with all the latest updates.

2. Attached USB v2.0 DVB-T tunner with chipset rtl2832u to the VM.

3. Installed tvheadend with all the default settings (from github) and configured a single mux.

Within the Host:

1. Started any HTSP client (XBMC\Kodi\VLC player)

2. Switched to the channel with the best reception.

3. When the playback start, popup any browser or Windows explorer window and start resizing it or refresh any browser tab.

Result: The video playback start stuttering or even stucks forever. In the guest linux console I can see that the USB performance goes so bad, that the reception from the DVB-T dongle is completely useless!

Can someone explane this to me please? Is there anything that I don't know - any hidden optimizations or something like that, so I can use my computer with virtualization?

Note: I don't do anything else on the host or the guest (all other applications are stopped).

PS; Till the end of this week I will try to test the same use case on Linux Ubuntu\ Fedora and Windows 8.

[Help] Mouse click issue when running VMware Player on Extended Monitor

I have my PC hooked up on multiple monitors and I want to run VMware player on one of extended screen other than the primary screen. Whenever I moved VMware Player to run on the extended screen, the mouse click is messed up. It doesn't click on the right position, and automatically drags on the screen. Is there anyway to fix this issue?

Trying to determine which VMWare is best to use/buy

Question is 2-sided for me...trying to get and use a product without added hassle of choosing wrong product to start with.

So part 1 is i got a darn good laptop that i want to use in conjunction with my Army Instruction and deployments but being Windows 8.1 i have a hard time with CAC and AKO issues due to OS and browser.  So i figured being able to use a VM on said laptop i could run win7, inside of win8.1, and tailor the browser to something that would allow me to log in with no CAC issues. Part 2 is i would learn about VM and then be able to study up on certifications enhancing my IT profession.

Question is which one do i need?  Player? Player Pro? Workstation? Fusion? Am i able to do what i am asking about with this virtual machine? Hoping that posting here is the right area and way to get str8 answers.

Thanks much,

External hard drive on Windows 7 VM: Difference between VMware Player 6.0.5 and 7.0.0?

0
0

I have a laptop and a desktop, both running Kubuntu.  Each has a Windows 7 vm guest.  When I plug an external hard drive (Seagate into the laptop, both the Linux machine and the vm can see it (not at the same moment, obviously).  When I plug the same drive into the desktop, the vm sort of sees it and sort of doesn't.  That is, the device shows up in the "Virtual Machine" menu list of "Removable Devices," but the Windows installation cannot seem to assign it a drive letter or use it.  The message I get is that the USB device I've plugged in isn't recognized and that I should try reconnecting it or "replace the device."  Reconnecting it does nothing, and since the other Windows vm can see it and work with it, I'm disinclined to replace the device.

I have checked the two vms' settings against each other, and they are identical.  The only difference I can see is that the laptop is running VMware Player 6.0.5, and the desktop is running 7.0.0.  Could that possibly explain the difficulty?  I can always roll back to the earlier version, but it seems pointless to do that without knowing that the difference in versions is at least a candidate.

Thanks in advance for the help.

advice on first VMWare certification for a beginner.

I'm looking to get my first vmware certification. Something that will not take to long so I can get motivated to keep going on to other certifications.

My experience with vmware is building servers via vcenter, using templates to build servers, have built esix hosts, created esxi clusters, vmotion knowledge.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

VMWare Player 7 Constantly Freezing and Unusable

0

Clean install of 64-bit Windows 10 Technical Preview (build 9926) on WMWare Player 7.0.0 build-2305329. No third-party software at all except for VMWare Tools.

Host is 64-bit Windows 8.1 Update 1 with 12 GB RAM and up-to-date AMD video driver.

VMWare Player freezes constantly for about 30 seconds at a time. Can happen at any time and happens frequently enough that VMWare Player is pretty much unusable.

VM has 1 CPU core, 4 GB memory, 40 GB virtual disk. EDIT: Currently 10.3 GB used of 39.6 GB available.

Any way to prevent VMWare Player from constantly freezing? It's effectively unusable as is.

Hi,

I'm unable to upgrade on Player 7.1. After downloading, I get a window where I should uninstall Version 7.0 but when starting the msi-packet the System crashes. I tried to uninstall manually but no luck. I'm using Microsoft Surface 3 pro with Windows 8.1

Any ideas to solve the Problem?

Thanks in advance Jürgen.
