VMWare Player v7.x - Where is the Virtual Network Editor?

0
0

I have a need to modify the virtual network settings when using VMware Player but cannot locate the virtual network editor in VMware Player v7.0.0. I need to create a separate VMNet2 pointing to a separate Bridged Network adapter. I can create the VM in Workstation with the appropriate network adapter, but can not figure out how to add VMNet2 to the host that will run the VM in VMWare Player.

Is the program vmnetcfg.exe? I cannot locate that program nor anything that appears similar. Does it require a separate install?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen some posts that recommend using the Virtual Network Editor from VMware Workstation, however I do not know which Workstations version(s) are compatible with v7.x of Player.

Migrating to Vmware workstation from virtualbox network adapter issues

I recently migrated one of my vm from virtual box to vmware workstation 11.1.2. Since 3 days I been stuck with network issues where I get no internet access. Few things I tried

1. I removed virtual box guest addition. Installed vmware tools

2. Uninstalled virtualy box from my pc. Reintalled vmware

3. changed to NAt, bridge, host - nothing works

4. Created a new vm on vmware which has access to network(wierd)

I am not sure what else to try now. Guest os is  windows server 2008. Host is the same. Both on same pc.

unable to start vmware - black screen

Dear experts

I've got the following specs: Win 10 Build 10547, VMWare Player 7.1.2 build 2780323.

On my disk, several VMware's are residing (OSs Win7 and Win10).

My issue is that I can't open the VMwares.

If I start the VMware player by double clicking (not as Administrator) I'm getting the error message: The VMware Authorization Service is not running.

I've checked the service and it is running, I've also restarted it but there was no improvement.

If I start the VMware player as Administrator and try to power on the VMware the process is hanging.

After powering on a vmware I'm getting a black screen and nothing is happening.

The VMware Player is not reacting and I have to end the process.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Cheers

vmrun missing in the VMware-Player-12.0.0-2985596.x86_64.bundle

Hi,

I just installed the VMware-Player-12.0.0-2985596.x86_64.bundle on a Linux Mint 17 machine. On my former linux machine I had an older VMplayer and used the vmrun command to control my virtual machine. So, I was very disappointed when I found that the vmrun was not part of the bundle? Is there any additional bundle (as in older versions)? I could not find one on the download site.

Player Wont Install On Centrino CPU

Hi All

I have a Toshiba Tecra Laptop that I use as a host for VMPlayer.
Recently, I blew it away and gave it a fresh install of XP-Pro SP3. This OS is suitable as the machine only runs to host the VM's)

When I went to re-install VMPlayer, the install aborted claiming "an incompatible processor"

This happened with V's 3.1, 5.2 and 7.1.

V3.1 advised me that VMPlayer will only run on a CPU that supports the CMOV, PAE, TSC and FXSAVE instructions.

Now as this laptop has a Centrino processor, which is marked in the literature as a compatible processor, and as VMPlayer worked quite happily on this machine in a previous incarnation. I am at a loss as to what the problem could be.

Does anyone have any suggestions. ?

TIA for your help

Question About Install Scope

I have a work laptop  with Win 7 enterprise on  it.  I did the download for VMWare Workstation Player 7 and want to push the button for the install so that I can play around with Linux on my laptop.  But I wanted to ask:  does VMAre Workstation Player 7 carve out just some of my disk space to run on or what?  Basically, I want to make sure that it will not hurt anything on my laptop and will not consume all the space, etc.  I can't find anything that is like a Fact Sheet that tells you these kind of basic things.  And I am just int'd in the Free Version btw.

Using Workstation Player 12, when I create a VM the Hardware Level is 12.

Is there any way to specify a lower level, in order to move the VM to another host?

Wifi Connectivity in VMWARE through VMPLAYER Not Working

Hi,

I  am new to VMWARE and I am using VMPLAYER to login to my vm (Windows 2003 Server ) but I am not able to get Wifi connectivity in my vm although I am using Wifi in my Host Machine (Windows 10)

I have checked online vmware communities for solution to resolve the issue but none of the solutions given below worked for me:

i) Under properties of the Wifi Network Adapter I have checked the option for sharing my Internet Connectivity (for e.g Vmnet1/Vmnet8).

ii) Disabled Antivirus Firewall in Host machine

iii) Modified the property of the virtual machine under Network Adapter and tried with all 4 options like:

   a) Bridged Connection with Replicated IPs as in Host

   b) NAT

   c) Host on private network

   d) Custom (by selecting the preferred adapter like vmnet/vmnet8)

iv) Adding the physical address (MAC Address) of the  Network Adapter on the Host Machine before running the vm on VMPLAYER.

But it did not worked for me, please guide me if I am missing something and I need to access wifi internet access on my vm desperately.

Thanks in advance.

Does workstation 12 player have a boot order that can be set?

I am running "Workstation 12 player" on windows 10 - I imported and am running "windows XP Pro" and the vm runs with no problems. However, the vm drive is about 20gig and has a partition with win XP of about 9.9gigs.  I would like to increase the size of the partition to 15gigs.  I would like to use "gparted" to resize the partition.  I have inserted an ISO file of gparted into a CD/DVD drive and attempted to boot, but can't get it to do so.  I have tried hitting F12 so it would send me to a selection of the "boot device" and it just starts loading winXP.   Question: is there some where in "Workstation 12 player" where I can determine or change boot device order?  Or do I need to burn "gparted" to a cd and load it via my hard ware cd/dvd drive?  Any help would be appreciated!

VMPlayer 7, screen position

I updated VMware Player to version 7 (from version 6.xxx latest)

Now every time I start VMware Player 7 on my computer (Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit), it starts on a different position of my screen (screen resolution is 1920x1080).

The VMware guests also do so.

This is annoying, since I always have to reposition guest windows in order to get the complete guest screen visible.

I did not have this strange behaviour with VMware player 6.

Does anyone know a solution to avoid this?

Hello Community!

First off I have to say that I am a complete beginner concerning Virtual Machines and Ubuntu therefore I may not always understand what you tell me.

My Problem is that I cant connect to the Internet over Open VPN. It is working over LAN or WLAN tough. I use Windows 7 as the host and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS as the guest in the VM. First I thought the problem were the missing VMWare Tools but even after manually installing them it is not working.

I hope you can help me, if you need any more Information please tell me.

Question to VMware Engineering team

Good day community.

I have a question to an Engineering team of Workstation / Player

Why is it from version 9.0 to 10.0 to 11.0 to 12.0  USB support is just not there ???

It seems as if every time VM Station comes up with a new version it always has a problem with USB drivers or support?

I have tried in Windows Environment and IT ALWAYS THE SAME RESULTS BSOD when usb is been passthru(ed) from host to station

I have tried Various USB Device, USB HUBS, etc.... and it seem once load have been applied for a period of time it ALWAYS ends up been the same story BSOD of host system

How is it that Engineering team can not get their act together for past 4 major versions and releases it with same bugs / problems everytime ???

Need help getting VMware Player to run!

I have been using VMware Player 7.1 successfully for some time, but my host hard drive was starting to make noise, so I installed a new SSD drive as Drive C on the host.  My old hard drive installation was Windows 8.1 64-bit, but needed to be cleaned up, so I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 64-bit on my new SSD for the host.  My guest OS (Windows 8.1 64-bit) was installed on drive E, so I did not touch that drive.  I then installed VMware Player 7.1 and all went well.  However, when I now run VMware Player 7.1 and try to open my guest OS (Windows 8.1 64-bit), it now says that the Intel VT-x is disabled.  I never touched the BIOS at all, but to check I went into the BIOS and Intel Virtualization is Enabled as it always has been.  My system is an ASUS Sabertooth motherboard with an i7 processor and 16 GB ram.

So I have double checked everything in the BIOS and made sure that Virtualization is enabled.  What else can I do to get VMware Player 7.1 running?  Please Help!

Attached is the log file that was created when I tried to run the guest OS.

Thank you,

Abby

Sharing a (virtual) disk

Is there any wai to share a virtual disk among 2 or more VMs?

I remember it was possible with ancient versions of VMware Workstation, when I started using it.

A possible solition is creating a VM and using it as a NAS, but sharing a disk would be easier...

Marius

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to run Windows XP Mode on Windows7 Professional using the Workstation 12 Player.

The instructions tell me to:

  • Click File > New > Import Windows XP Mode VM

That option isn't there. All I have is:

     File >  New Virtual Machine

               Open

               Download Virtual Appliance

               Preferences

Please could someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Tim

My Bad.

I have just discovered you have to install the Windows XP Mode last. I had installed it first.

The option is now visible. Thanks all.

Mobile Broadband Device not recognized in Client VM

I am using a Dell Latitude 5404 laptop with Host OS Win7x64.  I have an internal Mobile Broadband device DW5808 4G aircard (Sierra Wireless).  I am able to install drivers and application for the MBB, and using an activated SIM card, connect to my service provider and access the internet.  I am creating to client machines (Win7x32 and Win8.1x32) on this host using VMWare player 7.0.  Both clients are created successfully and both have the same issue with the MBB device.  I 'connect' the device using the VMware menu and see the device no longer display in host and now listed in the client Device Manager with yellow bangs, under "Unknown Devices".  I am then able to install the driver supplied by Dell for this device and it installs the driver with out issue (I had to add the entry "SMBIOS.reflectHost = TRUE" to the VMX file to allow the driver/application to install).  After the driver installs, the unknown devices (4: 1 modem, 1 network adapter, 2 com ports) all are recognized and now list in their correct sections of Device Manager.  Each one still have a yellow bang and the properties report that "this device cannot start".  Event Viewer for the client also has 4 error entries which report "Device ID: ... is not supported on this machine!"

Exiting a VMware Workstation console while running WinPE from pxe and cannot get back in

0

I am running Windows 7 SP1 Pro 64 bit with 32GB of ram. 3.8GHz quad core AMD A10-5800B.

VMWare Workstation 11.1.0 Build 2496824

I am testing deploying machines from SCCM. During this process is downloads a Windows PE image and goes through the installation process. If I release the mouse from the console with CTRL-Alt or if I move the mouse out of the window, I cannot access the console again. This seems to be on all VMWare Workstation no matter the configuration. But the one I am working with at the moment is:

1 Proc 1 Core

Virtualization engine is Automatic. I have check Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI and Virtualize CPU performance counter. Both of there were not checked before this and I still have the issue with both settings.

8GB ram

100GB HDD as SCSI 0:0

Not sure what else I should include. I read something about Display Fusion causing issues but with DF off or with Force Processor Affinity (all CPUs) enabled or disabled.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Charles
