Cannot copy file from Host machine to VM

Folks,

Hello. I am using VM Player 3. My host machine is Windows 7 and VM is Oracle Linux 5. I used to copy files from Host machine to VM successfully. But now, when I copy a zip file from Host machine to VM, the error message comes up:

" Cannot write file to Virtual Machine.Aborting the file copy operation."

The memory of VM is 2GB, and the file is about 900MB. I think the memory is enough to hold the file.

My question is:

Can any folk help to solve the above issue ?

Thanks in advance.

Commercial use

Commercial Use

VMware Player is also now available for commercial use. A commercial  license for VMware Player 5 is included with VMware Fusion 5  Professional to enable customers to  run virtual machines on Windows or Linux PCs and on Macs using a single  license key!

Do I get this right ? - to use VMplayer on Windows or Linux in a commerical context we have to buy a Fusion license ?

Sounds very strange to me - similar to going to a fruit-shop to buy an apple and getting the response: we dont sell apples - buy a banana and you will get one apple for free

Setup can not configure network settings on this machine

Hello,

I am trying to install vmware Player and I get the error "Running Processes Detected'' setup can not configure network settings on this machine. please close any network configuration applications, such as any network card configuration applet, before continuing.

I don't see any such application running on my computer, I checked every single process running.

I search online and found nothing...

Anyone know how to solve this?

Windows 10 in fullscreen on Workstation Player 12

I have installs of Win7 on WSP12 and they go fullscreen without issue.

I upgraded one of the Win7 installs to Win10, and when it completed, the desktop does not expand to the full screen size when I click the fullscreen icon on the WSP menubar at the top. I've tried playing around with resolution settings in Win10 and manually setting resolutions in WSP for that VM, but no joy so far.

How do I get fullscreen mode (with the whole desktop filling the screen) with Win10 under WSP12?

Rete completamente Privata

Buongiorno,

Corrupted hard drive and now problems using old vmdk's

Back in late October I ran into a problem on my computer.  I had both Windows 7 and Linux installed on the computer.  I had typically been using Linux all the time but I had a vm installed through Linux that I was using Windows 98 for a couple of features that are available in 98 that aren't available in current versions of Windoze.  All of a sudden I couldn't get onto the computer using Linux.  I was totally locked out of the computer altogether.  It wouldn't boot up at all.  I could still get on the computer with Windows 7 though.  I think I ran into corrupted files on the Linux partition.  Since then I have managed to get back several of the important files I'm hoping to be able to get off the old Linux partition before I reformat the whole hard drive and start over from scratch.  The trouble is I can't do anything with the old Windows 98 vm.  I can't access it at all.  I don't get any errors it just won't bring up the old vm.  It basically appears to have shut down VMplayer when it goes to bring up Windows 98. The VMware tab completely disappears down at the bottom of the screen.

I've attached the vmware.log file.  Is there anyway I can get access back to the old vm.  I have tried, not fully knowing what I'm doing...admittedly, to modify the vmx file but I know I am not the best person to be doing this since I have only been researching the option of modifying the vmx file for the past hour or two now.  Fortunately I have both the original and a backup of the entire 98 vm directory and a full image of the old bum partition as well.  Just been playing with the modified version.  I will fess, until 30 minutes or so ago, I didn't know any better and I was always suspending the machine versus shutting it down.

Thanks for any help.

Import XP Mode after upgrading to Windows 10.

Howdy,

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 without thinking about the that impact on XP Mode.  I need to be able to run that XP Mode on my Windows 10 machine.  I have plenty of valid XP and Windows 7 licenses so that's not a problem.  Is there a way to "Import" the vhd that was used for the Windows XP Mode?  I tried "Open a Virtual Machine" and opening the Windows XP Mode.vmc, but I get an error "Failed to open virtual machine: Failed to import Windows XP Mode".  Does anybody have any suggestions on how I can get this done?  I'm using Workstation 12 on a Windows 10 Pro system.

Thanks

Unity (vmware player 7.1.3 ) does not work with Host: Windows10/ Guest: Debian Wheezy

I'm using

* Environment:

  - HostOS: Windows 10

  - Guest OS: Debian Wheezy

  - vmware player 7.1.3 build-3206955

* Problem

Unity mode does not work in the environment above with the following messages.

- "The virtual machine cannot enter Unity mode. Check that Unity is supported for this guest operating system and that the latest version of VMware Tools is installed."

I've tried GNOME desktop and xfce (as GNOME might have some problem as reported in (*1)), but both does not work.

Is there anyone who successfully worked with the similar environment ?

Any information/pointer are really appreciated.

VMWarePlayer 12 on Debian Jessie-stable

Hello,

I've installed WSPlayer 12 on Debian Jessie as host and Win8.1 and Win10 as guest. I'd like to use touch functionality like wiping pages or 2-finger-enlargenment within AdobeReader, to make reading journals in pdf borrowed from libraries in a more efficient manner. These two functions don't work.

But on the other hand touch functions like selection of icons, dragging icons, start of programs, use of the scrollbar work by touching.

I already made some change to the .vmx like

touchscreen.vusb.present = "TRUE"

usb.generic.allowHID = "TRUE"

usb.generic.allowLastHID = "TRUE"

but without success yet.

Does somebody have some idea or hint ?

best regards

Hi All,

I have VMware workstation (9.0) installed with the Windows 7 64 bit operating system which is my Office laptop (16 GB RAM , 500 GB hard disk, 2 TB External hard disk, 1 no of Intel NIC ). I would like to make the following setup with the virtual servers and workstations.

1.Create one virtual server with Windows Server 2008 R2 for for Domain controller with Microsoft Active directory.

2.Create one virtual workstations with Windows 7 64 bit for domain client.

3.Both the above two stations such as domain controller (win 2K8R2 ) and domain client ( Win 7) ,  i would like to bring it to the network through Microsoft Virtual adapter.

My question here is , Is it possible to make such kind of arrangement with the windows 7 Host system?. Otherwise is it possible to have Win 2K8R2 as a guest operating system on Win 7 Host Operating system.

Here is the Result of my experiment.

After creating the Virtual station with Win 2K8R2 and after installing the OS and during boot up the virtual station crashed with the blue screen and with the messages.

And I have attached the blue screen snapshot for reference. I have rebooted  the virtual server multiple time  and no success.

Ubuntu 15.04 guest shared folders feature not working

I've attempted to use the tools from the player, use the open-vm-tools package. I even tried compiling open-vm-tools from source and I could fix some compilation errors but it got too complicated. After spending half a day on it, I gave up.

Running the vmware-config-tools.pl script gives errors.

Some of the output of running the script is below.

The VMware Host-Guest Filesystem allows for shared folders between the host OS

and the guest OS in a Fusion or Workstation virtual environment.  Do you wish

to enable this feature? [yes]

The filesystem driver (vmhgfs module) is used only for the shared folder

feature. The rest of the software provided by VMware Tools is designed to work

independently of this feature.

If you wish to have the shared folders feature, you can install the driver by

running vmware-config-tools.pl again after making sure that gcc, binutils, make

and the kernel sources for your running kernel are installed on your machine.

These packages are available on your distribution's installation CD.

Guest intermittently crashes with "Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) has occurred"

Hi,

I have P2Vd a Dell laptop, running Windows 7 and am running it on my Windows 8.1 host. The conversion seemed to work without any issues. I can log into Windows, launch Outlook, Lync etc, however, within about 5 minutes of using it, I get the error below (in the VM). The VM crashes and I have to restart Player and the VM.

VMPlayerIssues.PNG

If I do nothing more than log in, the VM seems to stay up. The longest, so far is ~16 hours.

I have created a new VM in player and attached the VMDK, in an attempt to remove any issues / corruptions in the .vmx file. It seems to have improved the situation by allowing me to use the VM for longer, but still ~ 5 minutes makes it pretty useless.

There are several posts on the same general "Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) has occurred" error, including KB 1008485 (which I followed), but the errors in my vmware.logs are different. The most noteworthy lines of the attached vmware.log seems to be:

2455 vcpu-0| I120: FILE: FileDeletionRetry: Non-retriable error encountered (C:\Users\aperson\Documents\Virtual Machines\vmhostname.intl.domain.co.uk\vmhostname.intl.domain.co.uk.vmdk~): The system cannot find the file specified (2)

2494 vcpu-0| I120: VMXVmdbGuestBinaryInfoCB: failed: ret = VMDB failure

2498 vthread-15| W110: rwFlags 0 badAddr 0xc4

And it would be correct. The file doesn't exist. It does exist without the ~ (tilde) on the end of the path name. It's contents looks like:

Googling for the other errors hasn't yielded any tangible results, so I guess they are insignificant.

I did find a post about removing host.maxkHzEstimate.cpuidHash and host.maxkHzEstimate.value from the host. I have tried this. I can't find the post. Doesn't help than VMware seem to have downed this site!

The attached log file has been rotated before starting the VM, logging in, launching Outlook, attempting to write an email and sure enough within 7 minutes, it crashed, so it doesn't have much else other than the error.

VMPlayer Version: 6.0.4 build-2249910

If anyone has any ideas as to what is going on and might be able to assist in providing some way to a solution, I'd be most grateful.

Mouse look erratic in 3D games

I was testing out the OpenMW project on a virtual machine running Ubuntu 15.10 64 bit and while the mouse works perfectly in menus, whenever I use it to look around in first-person the view snaps to the floor and begins spinning around wildly. This happens in all 3D games I've tested, and I've found several reports of it on other forums (even for other virtual machine products). I couldn't however find anything that applied specifically to VMWare Workstation Player 12.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks

VMWare Player + Ubuntu 14.04 memory leak

Hello.

I've got a newly built host running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.  I've installed VMWare player 6.0.3 build-1895310 64-bit.   The host has an an i5 processor and 16GB RAM.  I've got a Windows 7 Pro VM with 4GB RAM allocated to it.  This VM is running video management software that is writing about 2MB/s to the virtual disk.  When I start the VM I see it consume approx 4GB RAM as expected but then I notice Linux (via top) slowly eating away at the remaining RAM.  An hour later and I'm almost out of wired RAM.

top - 17:35:03 up  7:41,  3 users,  load average: 0.40, 0.50, 0.54

The only fix is of course a reboot as the leak seems to be happening in the kernel or some driver.  I don't see a user-land process eating this.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Jim

Windows 2003 Server x86 guest hangs on 8GB RAM VM

0

The host is Windows 7 x64

32 bit version of Win2003 guest hangs during boot if more than 4GB of RAM selected (even if PAE is off), kernel debug through serial port shows it break in ntkrpamp.exe (ie NT kernel).

32 bit version of Win2003 R2 guest boots but is very unstable (corrupt files and hangs spontaneously)

32 bit version of Win2008 guest works fine with either PAE on or off.

Tested on VMware Player version 12.1 and 7.1.3

But even if you select less than 4GB of RAM, the setup of latest VMware Tools 10.0.5 crash Win2003 during the HGFS driver install phase. It looks like you do not even test 2003 guests.

Not able to access my guest host through vmplayer version 7.1.3

Hi,

I am a newbie to vmplayer and had encountered a problem while running it today. Today I tried to run my vmplayer(7.1.3) on host windows 10 with guest host as ubuntu linux 15.04 after accidentally closing it while many applications running(eclpse, postgreSQL, etc...). So, now when I run my vmplayer it starts up but doesn't show any screen, earlier a login screen used to appear, and it just remains in that state. i am attaching a screenshots and logs. Please let me know if they are helpful or anything else is required.
