Windows 7 host power setting gets changed to 'Turn off the display: after 15 minutes' when I open Workstation 12 Player

0

I don't think this is a duplicate post, as I haven't found an answer to the issue as yet..

I like to keep my display always on, so I have Windows' power settings set to 'Turn off the display: never' under my power plan.

However, even before powering up my guest OS (Ubuntu 15.10 at the moment), Windows' power settings get changed to 'Turn off the display: after 15 minutes' as soon as I start up Workstation 12 Player.

It was happening earlier too (late last year), on a previous install of Windows 7, but I never got around to addressing it.

Is anyone else having this issue, or able to suggest a potential fix?

64Bit VMs & Intel E6400 Core 2 Duo

Hi,

I have a machine which has the Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 processor which I know supports VT-X.

I  am running Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit and have VMware PLayer installed. I  have many 64Bit VM's, mainly linux (Suse & Fedora) which work  perfectly on a Dell Laptop with an i5 processor, however when I run them  on the E6400 processor I get errors in regards to 64Bit support and  LongMode.

I checked that this processor supports VT-X so am unsure why this does not work?

I also checked with the 64Bit processor tool and that confirms that the processor is capable of running 64Bit hosts so unsure what the problem is.

There are no settings with the firmware that control VT-X so I am a little stuck with regards to this.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Please help! - VMware Player unrecoverable error: NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora\lib\pollDefault\pollDefault.c:3914

Hello all,

I have been having issues with my VM ever since I installed VMWare. It crashes about twice a day with the error below. Sometimes it's a different vthread crashing, but it's always the pollDefault NOT_IMPLEMENTED error. I am at my wit's end and could really use some help.

VMware Player unrecoverable error: (vthread-10)

NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora\lib\pollDefault\pollDefault.c:3914

My host OS is Windows 10 Home x64 that I upgraded from Windows 8 when I first bought my laptop. The guest OS is running Windows 7. I am using VMWare Workstation Player 12. I was previously using Workstation 11 and upgraded to 12 Player in the hopes that the error would resolve itself. Obviously, this thread indicates that the problem remained.

Attached are my log file and vmsupport ZIP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Player upgrade from VMWare 7.1 - Error while loading this virtual machine's policy: VDBM error

After upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I uninstalled the VMWare Workstation and then installed Workstation 12 Player.

When I try to open a Virtual Machine that was created by WMWare Workstation v71, I see the error message:
"Failed to open virtual machine: Error while loading this virtual machine's policies: VMDB failure".

Is there a way to get around this, or am I out of luck using that Virtual machine?

VMWare Player 12 on Linux : sends guest OS (Win10) to sleep and quits :-(

Hi,

Switching from MacOS to Linux I needed a solution to run MS Office on Linux (and no, I can't replace with any other software !).

So I first tried VirtualBox, but it doesn't run really smooth.

I then discovered VMWare Player, and that one runs MUCH smoother than VirtualBox.

But if I launch a VM in VMWare Player, leave my machine for an hour or so, and come back, I find that VMWare player has sent the guest OS to sleep and has quit.

Here's the config used :

- Mac Pro Dual Hexacore Xeon @ 2.93Ghz ;

- 40 GB RAM ;

- Host OS : Linux Ubuntu Mate (installed on a SSD drive) ;

- Guest OS : Windows 10 - 64 bits (installed on another internal SSD drive).

I tried to retrieve the VMWarte Log, but it really doesn't show a quitting, nor any abnormal activity.

Is that a know limitation of the Free (non commercail version ? Or is something wrong ?

VirtualBox could last there for hours/days...

Thanks for your suggestions.

Issue trying to Telnet from W7 64b SP1 to Ubuntu VM in VM Player 12.1.0

0

Just moved a UBUNTU 12.04 VM from XP Pro SP3 to W7 64b SP1 ... had to upgrade to VM Player 12.1.0

Issue: have a character based application running in Ubuntu that requires Telnet access ... in XP Pro with the VM network set to NAT the Ubuntu ifconfig IP address is accessible from XP ... in W7 I have been unable to see the Ubuntu IP address ... Ping fails ... Telnet Fails  ... started from scratch and loaded Ubuntu 14.04 ... still no IP address showing

- Both versions of Ubuntu connect to the internet

- Both versions of Ubuntu can ping the Host IP address

- Both versions immediately crash with BSOD if I choose Bridged OR vNet0 Auto Bridged settings

- Both vNet1 and vNet8 are connected and return Pings

- Norton 360 Firewall and security completely turned off ... still no IP address showing

- Ubuntu 14.04 connects to Windows share from Ubuntu so Samba config is working

- Ubuntu 14.04 telnetd was installed and configured but status indicates server isn't running

sudo apt-get install xinetd telnetd

I am not concerned about Telnet security as this is only being used on a small secure home intranet

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

What GPU would you recommend for VMWare Worksation 12 on Linux to run Win10 as a guest ?

Hi,

Maybe that has already been asked... but a quick search di end up with no real results and/or too many of them, most not relevant

So here's my question : I am currently running an "old" Mac Pro (4.1 upgraded to 5.1 ; Xeon CPU's upgraded to 2 X Hexa Cores @ 2.93Ghz ; 40GB or RAM ; several SSD's and HDD's inside the machine and outside of it).

The main system is Linux (don't ask why, but basically because I got fed up with Apple stepping backwards with each new product they release !).

I have to run Windows as a Guest OS.

VMWare allows me to do so, but I would like to improve things to have a Win 10 running even more smoothly than it does.

I think one of the major bottlenecks here is my GPU : it's an old ATI Radeon HD 5870 with 1GB of VRAM.

I am considering swapping it for a "Mac flashable card" (just in case I'll decide to resell that MacPro...).

So chances are I will get either an ATI Radeon HD 7970 (3GB RAM) or a GTX 680.

I think that performance wise they're more or less on par, but maybe VMWare uses resources  (Open CL, Cuda, Direct X...) and that would make one of the cards superior to it's competitor...

Anyone has some knowledge he'd like to share to advise on which card to choose ?

Thanks a lot.

Error while running sound stream: Recording may not work

I realize that one cannot expect too much in regards to sound/VoIP within a VM but I would like to at least give it a try in troubleshooting this error, since the sound actually works for a short time. Basically, what happens is I start a VoIP application and make a call and talk just fine for about 3 or 4 minutes and then the sound input ceases (the other party can't hear me) and I get this vmware error:

Error while running sound stream

Recording may not work

I have tried this on multiple VoIP applications and experienced the same problem. Most of the google results I'm seeing are for the sound input never working in the first place. This is different. The sound works perfectly -- actually amazing quality -- until it suddenly stops. Even after it stops, I can still hear the other party but they say they can't hear me. I have tried using every possible setting in the Use physical sound card drop down menu of vmware. Below are my specs. Ideas?

Issue while running xp in VM. Service don’t work inside VM

Hi

Working with VMware Workstation 12 Player

I used a copy of an old xp computer in the VM. Virtual XP itself starts and is works well.

All programs in the virtual XP are working with exception of one program.

On the original XP this program causes no problems.

This program is using some services and one of these services don’t start.

Service remains in state "is starting"

Any idea how to proceed

How to unmount shared folders in a Linux guest

0
0

Hello,

I am using a shared folder in Linux guest (Ubutnu 14.04 LTS). I have mounted it in a desired folder through the command:

sudo mount -t vmhgfs .host:/NAME_SHARED_FOLDER PATH_OF_MOUNTED_SHARED_FOLDER

At the end of my work, before shutting down the system, which is the correct and safe way to unmount the shared folder??? (in order not to crash the system or having problems of instability....)

If I right-click on the icon of the shared folder and then click on "Unmount" I get this error message:

Unable to unmount "NAME_SHARED_FOLDER"

unmount: "PATH_OF_MOUNTED_SHARED_FOLDER" is not in the fstab (and you are not root)

Have you got any ideas?

Thank you for your attention,

Francesco

Unable to uninstall VMware Bridge Protocol

0

I'm trying to remove VMware Bridge Protocol after an uninstall of VMware player 12.0.1-3160714 on Windows 10 Pro. Apparently the VMware uninstaller did not do a clean uninstall. Attempt to delete it causes this error as shown in screenshot.

t1.png

I've also tried to remove the protocol via regedit at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Network, and upon reboot the protocol still remains.

This is a problem because it is preventing me from applying IPV4 settings, giving me the "An unexpected condition occured" when I try to apply DNS settings.

Can anyone tell me how to remove that damn protocol apart from reinstalling Windows 10?

Because I had curiously not internet connection through vmplayer I decided to uninstall it.

But I can not uninstall it, because vmware-installer says that vmware-player is not an installed product (but i can get the version of vmware player !).

It looks like a bug.

BUG vmplayer.png

And here VMware Workstation says that VMware Player is installed !

What should I do ?

uname -a :

Linux debian 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt25-2 (2016-04-08) x86_64 GNU/Linux

version installed :

VMware-Player-12.1.0-3272444.x86_64.bundle

Lenovo Thinkpad x201

I solved the internet connection issue :   1) go to "File" -> "Player Preferences"-> "Connection Settings" -> select "No Proxy" -> "Close" -> "Download All Components Now". Enter the root password if asked.
                                                               2) if necessary : go to Virtual Machine Settings and select NAT.

Problem with host OS at 50% CPU usage, guest freezed

Hi to all,

I have a problem with EVERY virtual machine I am using with vmWare Workstation Player 12.0. I suppose the problem regards host OS, since virtual machines work on other host OS.

The problem is that when I try to run a VM, if I select 2 processors, host OS uses 50% of the CPU, while guest in almost freezed. If i select 1 processors, same behaviour, with host at 25% of CPU usage. I have tryed changing RAM, but without any results. Virtual machines were working perfectly with only 1Gb RAM.

My host OS is Intel Core i7 3Ghz, 16Gb RAM, Hard disk SSD, 64 bit.

Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

VMWare Player 12 Guest Bridged No Internet and Cannot Ping from Guest VM to Gateway

I have a Windows 7 Pro Guest in VMWare Player 12.  The Host is Windows Server 2012 R2 in a VSphere 6.0 Virtual Environment.  When the Guest NIC is set to Bridged mode I cannot access the internet nor can I ping any internal network servers or the gateway from the Guest.  I am getting an internal ip address and the DNS servers listed in the Guest are the correct internal DNS servers.   The Host can ping the Guest and the Guest can ping the Host.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks.
