VMCI.SYS Blue Screen on VMWare Tools Install

0
0

I am trying to install VMWare tools on a Vista guest and am getting a blue screen with VMCI.SYS. The install never completes.

The Vista guest was virtualized from using VMWare Converter on the physical box.

The virtual machine runs fine otherwise, but I need to get the tools installed on it so I can give the virtualized machine to an end user.

If it makes any difference, an old version of VMWare Player was installed in the guest Vista OS back in 2008.

Can anyone give me some suggestions for what to do here?

Thanks,

David

Networking isssue

I am using VM Player 4.0.6 on Win7. Have Ubuntu 14.04 VMs.

My VM Player Network Adapter is set to NAT. (I must have chosen all the defaults).

This all was working fine forever but somehow something changed and everything has fallen apart.

When I reboot my VMPlayer my IP changes. My software (on VM)  is configured to use the IP address of when I originally installed the software- so it of course does not work with IP changes.

How can I get a static IP, or should I have to change my Network Setting (is that even possible).

Thanks

Can  I upgrade my VM Player to new 12.5 seamlessly?

Can ping and map windows network computers, but NOT browse neither SSH

Host: Windows 10 Home Version 1607 Build 14393.477, 64-bit OS

Guest(VM): Windows 7 Professional SP 1, 64-bit OS

VM: VMware® Workstation 12 Player, 12.5.2 build-46382

I upgraded my PC host to windows 10 not much time ago from Windows 7. Few days ago I began to play VM a Windows 7 guest and an upgrade to VM player 12 was offered by the package and installed.

After the upgrade I ran a client APP on the guest that communicates with a server APP via TCP/IP, which is a Linux running as a VM in other PC, with no success on the communication at all.

So I began to diagnosis the situation with following results:

1.- The guest can ping the host and other computers on the network, also it can map on windows other computers and even the Linux server which is running a Samba file server

2.- The guest CAN NOT ssh to the server neither can browse any web page (nor Intranet neither internet), an

3.- With a wireshark running at the host it could be noted the following:

          a) There is data traffic coming and go when ping and windows network mapping is done.

          b) There absolutly data NO TRAFFIC when browsing and ssh connection is tried

From googling on the INET, I know this kind of problem has been reported before but there have not been a clear explamation of the cause and possible alternative

Any one that can help  or redirect me to a correpondent thread will be appreciated.

Thanks for read.

Enable Shared Folders and Virtual Printers by default in VMware Player 12.5

0

Hello,

We have a requirement to use shared folders in our environment, and we are using SCCM to push out the VMware Player to all machines that require it. Unfortunately I'm having some trouble getting both Virtual Printers and Shared Folders enabled by default.

I'm using the ENABLE_VIRTUAL_PRINTERS=1 option on the install command line, which seems to work SOME of the time, but not always, but that's not my main concern, just an annoyance.

My main concern, is there seems to be no way to get VMware Player to automatically allow all shared folders to be enabled by default, like you can in Workstation. We also push out a VM to these laptops, and whenever we fire it up, it pops up a message to say that Shared Folders have been disabled by default. I do not want my users to have to go into the VM each time we update it, and reenable shared folders.

I've seen various articles around about using
pref.enableAllSharedFolders = "TRUE"
, which I shoved into the settings.ini file in the same place the virtual printer setting is, but that doesn't seem to work either. My VMX file also has
isolation.tools.hgfs.disable = "false"
in it as well, and also tried
sharedFolder.option="alwaysEnabled"
but nothing seems to work.

How can I get shared folders to be enabled by default in Player?

Thanks in Advance

I have workstation player 12.5.2 build 4638234. I run win xp in it and this works fine. I have several progs in xp that run fine. I am trying to install cyberlink powerproducer and powerdirector inside this machine but get the error 1327 invalid drive z:\. I know the cd drive is recognised as I was able to install the driver for the usb device from another cd ok. I have tried copying the cd to the hard drive and running from there. I still get the same error.

Any ideas please.

Running Things From 128 GB USB Flash Drive. Is this even possible?

0

I have VMware. I also have a flash drive that holds up to 128 GB. Is there a way I can keep the VMware file on the flash drive and then bring it to work, plug it in there, then run my entire day from this USB flash drive? Meaning VMware has some way to save the operating system files on this today which would allow me to open it from both my home and my office. Another way to say it is I would like to work a little bit on the Windows 7 64 bit vmware profile at home, save it, then stick the usb flash drive in my pocket.  Then I want to go to work, put in the usb flash drive and continue exactly where i left off at home.  Is this possible?

I hope this is the correct forum to post this question.

fedora 24 guest: the default sound device cannot be opened

I'm running a dell 780 desktop with windows 10 64 bit and vmware workstation 12 player. I've installed a fedora 24 64 bit guest machine and I've got a problem with the sound device so...

the default sound device cannot be opened

a device id has been used that is out of range for your system

failed to connect virtual device sound

The sound device in windows 10 shows up as a High Definition Audio Device and it works fine. I've been trawling google but can't find a solution that works for fedora 24. In the fedora 24 guest the sound device shows up as: Analogue Output: ES1371/Creative Labs CT2518/ES1373 (AudioPCI 64V/128 / CreativeCT4810/CT5803/CT5806 [Sound Blaster PCI]

In vmware settings the sound card is set to auto-detect with a dot in 'use default host sound card'.

Can anyone help get the sound working?

How do I fix VM player CentOS after latest host Windows 10 update?

CentOS under Workstation player VM has worked for years until latest Windows 10 update.  Is this a coincidence?

when I ping 192.168.220.120 I get a 'Destination Host Unreachable' error

or if I try and access  192.168.220.120 as usual via Chrome under Windows 10 I get 'This site cannot be reached'

Any insight gratefully recieved.

VMWare player 12.5 doesn't send "CTRL+ALT+DEL"

0

I have converted the phisical Windows 7 Pro on my laptop with "VMWare vCenter Converter Standalon client" to a new Windows 7 virtual machine instance.

After launching the virtual machine, the VMWare player 12.5 doesn't send "CTRL+ALT+DEL" to start the login acquisition, so I'm not able to use the virtualized machine.

I've tried to stop the Windows startup with F8 and it works, so I suppose the keyboard is correctly installed and recognized.

I've tried with difference sequences: CTRL+ALT+">", CTRL+ALT+"INS", CTRL+ALT+"END", with no changes.

Anyone can help me to find a solution?

Thanks

run VM at specific date for startup.

I have a centos7 VM running under VMWare Player. I have changed the vmx file so that

tools.syncTime = "FALSE"

time.synchronize.continue = "FALSE"

time.synchronize.restore = "FALSE"

time.synchronize.resume.disk = "FALSE"

time.synchronize.shrink = "FALSE"

time.synchronize.tools.startup = "FALSE"

time.synchronize.tools.enable = "FALSE"

time.synchronize.resume.host = "FALSE"

rtc.startTime = "1463290457"

And it works. The VM date at startup is in May 2016.

Several months later, I have created another VM of centos 7 under VMPlayer 12.5.2. Again changed the above and this time it starts with date set to now.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to debug this?

There is nothing in the VMware.log that I can see that is useful. The values in the vmx file are loaded.

How to Reduce Hard Disk Allocation

Hi, I'm new to VM.  I've allocated 500MB hard disk - and want to reduce this now to 50 instead - can someone please help me work out how to do this?  I'm happy to uninstall and reinstall everything if that is easy enough to do?

I'm using VM Workstation 12 Player.

I have issue with smart card

Hello,

I have issue with smart card - it is electronic signature USD - miniLector S Evo by Bit4Id. I have host Ubuntu 16 64bit / VMWare PLayer 12 with Win7 32bit.

In Linux there is no problem with the card. I see it - I can use it. Unfortunately some local government agencies doesn't support Linux. So I try to install the card in Win 7. The issue is that the windows doesn't see it. The VM see it as shared devices. When I try to install it says "There is no card recognised by provider" - in normal instalation Win7 see the card.

What I did after that? I try that one, but it doesn't work http://pubs.vmware.com/player-12-linux/index.jsp#com.vmware.player.linux.using.doc/GUID-78E5618F-BD2D-4169-91A4-8FDDCD4C823B.html

I try to make that one VMware Workstation 12 Player for Linux Documentation Center  with same result

When we run some test we got that result:

USB Arbitration Service Hangs at "Starting"

My VMware application was corrupted (multiple times) and I had to force remove the application and all entrants of it. I used the KB article to remove all of the bits and pieces.

Now, I cannot connect to any USB devices with my VMs (any of them) and I get no errors that there is an issue.

Looking at my services.msc section, it shows USB Arbitration Service for VMware is "starting" but never actually starts. I found the log for the service and all it says is the below. I can't seem to get the service to start even after installing/reinstalling/removing/deleting the application or executables associated with the service. I could use some help in figuring out why I can't connect USBs or start this service.

How to add VMware to Windows-Firewall?

[ENGLISH]

Hello,

how must I add VMware to the Windows-Firewall to allow the VM to communicate externally / internally ?

(↓ Better configuration ↓)

I add port 80 and 443 on the hostsystem (outgoing and incoming) but the VM don't use this ports. Although they also use ports 80 and 443. This is the case with every port.

How do I make the VMs use the ports?

Wie füge ich VMware in der Windows-Firewall hinzu, damit die VM nach außen und innen kommunizieren können?

Hello,

I was using a virtual machine then I suspended it. Now I'm trying to use it again and it keeps showing this error.

The others virtual machines I have doesn't returns this error.

Some things I've tried already and didn't work:

- Rename the vmplayer.exe file;

- Restart vmware services;

- Restart windows management instrumentation service;

- Tried to delete .lck file (couldn't find it inside the folder);

Someone has any other suggestion for me to try?

Thanks

server 1.0.10 NAT: DNS not working

I just updated VMWare Server from 1.0.9 to 1.0.10 and now DNS does not work in guest that have set up NAT networking.

Tried Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10, also Windows XP. All using default (automatic) network settings.

I can ping any numerical address, but DNS resolution does not work.

If I set manually a DNS server offered by my ISP in the guests, then it works.

Is this some regression with 1.0.10 ? I'm sure the same VM worked before the update.

This time I was using VMWare Player 5.0.2 on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.

I had a few VMs working fine.

Then I updated to Player 6.0.0, created a new VM for Windows8 and installed Windows 8.1 Preview into it.

There I noticed tha DNS does not work;

- ping 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS server) - works

- nslookup www.najdi.si returns:

A Ubuntu guest VM also had problems with DNS resolution (worked fine before), so I decided to revert back to Player version 5.0.2.

It did not help, so I uninstalled it, cleaned up ( "Manually cleaning a Windows system" at VMware KB: Cleaning up after an incomplete uninstallation on a Windows host ) and then reinstalled Player v5.0.2.

After that a quick test with http://www.sysresccd.org ISO worked, but when I tried the Windows 8.1 VM the problems started again.

I started the SystemRescueCd again and I got:

% ping rtv.si
PING rtv.si.localdomain (91.185.213.134) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 91.185.213.134: icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=13.1 ms
64 bytes from 91.185.213.134: icmp_seq=2 ttl=128 time=13.9 ms

This is slightly better, but still not correct (it should say "PING rtv.si" , not "PING rtv.si.localdomain").

It seems the DNS server of VMWare Player is sending broken replies.

Any idea how to resolve this?
