WM sends printout to wrong printer from guest OS

Hello,

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 linux as guest OS on a Win7 PC, using VMware Player 5.0.1.

When I try to print from Ubuntu, the print dialog box correctly lists my network laserjet as default selection.  However, once I send the printout, Win7 shows the job being sent to MS OneNote printer, instead of the LaserJet.

How does one reconfigure this?

Hi

I'm using the VMware Player on a Laptop ASUS with windows 8, and when I open the VMware Player for windows server 2008 R2 I have a problem with the keyboard mapping for example:

u -> 4
i -> 5
o -> 6
p -> *
j -> 1
k -> 2
l -> 3

If I type the u key the VMware player display 4.

Can you help me to fix this problem?

I really appreciate your help.

Cannot open virtual machines as normal user

Hello!

I have been using VMPlayer 5.0.1 for Linux for quite a while now without problems, but suddenly I cannot open (or run) virtual machines as a normal user. When I select a VMX file in the "Open Virtual Machine" dialog and click "Open", the dialog disappears and nothing happens. There is no error message or the like. Opening virtual machines still works when I run VMPlayer as root, though! I checked the permissions of my VM files and directories, they are all have r/w enabled and belong to my normal user. Any idea where the problem might be?

Many thanks,

VMWare Player & HP 6700 Wireless Printer

Could someone kindly assist? I love the VMWare Player but was forced to purchase a new printer which happens to be wireless. Unfortunately, I can no longer print anything now whenever I use the VMWare Player. My new wireless printer is an HP Officejet 6700 Premium. Is there some simple configuration I just need to do in order to make my VMWare Player program work with my HP wireless printer? Any help in finding a resolution would be much appreciated. thanks

Certificate Error when trying to install tools

Installed VMware Player 5.0.1  build 894247 under Win7 and created a WinXP guest.  When try to install  VMware Tools, get error dialog "A certificate error occurred for the  update server.  Check your Internet settings or contact your system  administrator."  What do I have to do to fix that?

Things I tried:

Then created a Win Vista guest, using an old install CD/key from years ago.  Same problem - can't install Tools for it either.  Both WinXP and Vista guests have Internet connection - can  use Win  explorer in both of them to visit any web site - so problem is not Internet connectivity.  Then installed an Ubuntu guest - same problem.  Then, connected the computer directly to my ISP's modem (Time Warner cable) rahter than going thorugh my home router/switch.  Still have same problem.

This  is a personal computer - has an Intel DQ67SW motherboard, i72600 CPU,  332G RAM.  I chose that moterhboard and CPU because of the Intel TXT support - which I understand is necessary in order to install 64-bit guest OS.

I  have access to a 2nd computer runing Win7, so installed Player on it,  and was able to successfully create a WinXP guest, and get the tools  installed on it.  But, I can't keep that computer.  Just tried it out to  make sure there wasn't something messed up in my home network.

Player + Converter and Activation

Hi, I virtualised an old Dell PC running Win XP as its on its last legs and I need the software its running.

However,, when I try to run the image on Player I'm told I have to re-activate Windows. I understand this is becuase the Dell PC has a OEM Windows licence tied to that hardware. Some solutions suggest I boot the new image from a Boot CD and select the Repair option to apply a volume licence.

Can I do this with Player as I cannot seem to get into the boot option - its keeps going straight into Windows.

I'm running Version 4.0.3 of Player.

Accessing a remote VM

Ok - this is very basic I’m sure but I can’t see the wood for the trees so thought I’d ask for some guidance here.

I have a Windows 7 server running VM Player. Works a treat. However, I now want to connect to the VMs (hosted on my Windows 7 laptop) from an iPad (running VMViewer).

Simply entering the IP address of my VM doesn’t work…How do I configure the VM on my laptop so that it is able to accept incoming requests???

Any help at all would be much appreciated.

(I'm using the iPad just to simplify things - ultimately i'd like to connect to a VM located on the Windows 7 latop from another computer (still within the same network)

VMware Player 5 USB no response

Hi

I'm using as Nokia Symbian development environment VMware Player 3.2 with a Carbide C++ Eclipse Plugin. To debug the software on a mobile device, there is a debugger called Public Coda, which is connected by USB.

This setting works fine for the last few years.

To use a Windows 8 virtual machine for a differen project, I need to upgrade to VMware Player 5, now with following issues:

After starting the debugger and downloading the code to the device by USB, the Carbide C++ Eclipse plugin loses its connection to the Coda debugger on the mobile device. The IDE does not receive a response from the mobile debugger. This happens after a ~1 minute, sometimes it takes longer. But the Mobile device is still connected to the usb host.

I tried different versions of the IDE, mobile debugger, workstations, operating systems, all with the same effect. VMware Player 3.2 and below works fine. Did something changed on the USB handling on version 3.3 and above? Are there some advanced USB settings?

Hello,

          The player seemed to install okay, but I cannot load a guest OS as the player wants to PXE boot to/from a network and I want to load from the cd or hard drive.  I've tried f2 and escape when the player boots, but no luck.  Any suggestions?  Thank you for any help you can provide.

How can I alter the VMware player connection timeout setting

$

I just started a new job where the VMware Player is installed on my box to get to a Windows 7 64-bit virtual machine that has some code in it that I have to access.  For some reason, and I cannot find in the settings, my connection to the virtual box via the player times out.  I want to change it, somewhere in the product I hope, to disable the connection timeout feature.  Can someone please tell me how to accomplish that?

The version of VMware Player I'm running is 5.0.1 build-894247.

Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

VMWare Workstation 8 Unrecoverable error mksWin32DnDProxy.c:199

We are using a licensed copy of VMWare Workstation 8. We just updated to the latest free update 8.0.5 build-893925. We are now getting occasional crashes of the virtual machine. The host is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. The VM is XP Pro with Service Pack 3. After the update we also installed the latest VMWAre tools for XP. We use primarily one application in Unity mode. It's a CAD application for manufacturing. Associated with it is a USB security dongle. Everything is working as it did before except for the crashes. I've attached the support logs for analysis. For reference, I also saw a related article for VMWare Player that seems to be the same exact error: http://communities.vmware.com/message/2151011#2151011. I also found an older report of the same error here: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/408034.

If there is no fix for this is it possible to go back to the previous release that didn't crash?

Any help is appreciated since our support contract has expired.

Access Linux (Host) folder from Windows 7 (Guest)

I am having trouble accessing a folder on my Linux Mint 14 host from inside a Windows 7 vm I just installed.

The  steps I have taken thus far have all been from the GUI. First I locate  the folder in Mint, right click on it and set it's sharing options. In  there I give full permission to anyone and everything to access and  change that folder. Not much more I can do in there.. The folder gets a  little icon on it to show that it is shared.

Now in the VM Win7 I  can got to Network places and see my Mint host. I can even see the  shared folder. But if I try to access it, I get a permissions error.   'you don't have permission. See system admin etc etc'...

I'm just not sure what else there is to do. Any ideas out there?

Windows 8 Activation on Reinstall on VHD

$

I installed Windows 8 in VMPlayer running in Windows 7.  I then decided to move it to a virtual hard drive (VHD) and I got a message that it could not be activated because it had already been installed on another computer.  I have not contacted Microsoft about this.  My intent is to eventually install a new 1TB HDD and permanently install the Windows 8 there.  Will I have problems getting Microsoft to understand that these three instances of Windows * are all on the same PC?

Win7 Host Win98 Guest Slow

Hi,

I just posted a question about this setup and Time Sync. I have a second problem where the guest is running very slow.

I had the guest installed on this notebook. They I upgraded the hard drive to a ssd and installed Win7 x32. I installed vmware player 4.02 and copied the guest back onto the ssd from the old drive. It runs, but much slower as I can tell how much time some of the applications now require. Also, when I hold a key, like the down arrow on a menu, it doesn't move the cursor immediately, they queues up a number of keystrokes and moves the cursor when I've stopped holding the key. I did a search but can't seem to find a solution. I tried to uninstall and reinstall player, then did the same for vmware tools. Same issue. I don't have a cd drive installed on the notebook, it is a Thinkpad T61 and the drive is removable if that makes a difference.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Player 2.0.2 upgrade crashed during installation

I was attempting to upgrade to Player 2.0.2.  During the uninstall of the previous version of the Player, my WinXP Pro system blue-screened.  Now, when I attempt to run the 2.0.2 installation, it says "VMPlayer is installed. Uninstall via Add/Remove Programs", but there is no entry in Add/Remove Programs for the VMWare Player.  The previous version still exists, but does not run.
