Hello everyone,

I have an annoying problem with the performance of my virtual machine. First, here's the spec of my PC :

- Model: DELL Latitude E6430

- CPU: Intel Core i7-3740QM @ 2.70 GHz

- RAM: 16 GB (2x8) DDR3L

- GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000 & NVIDIA NVS 5200M (Optimus technology)

- SSD: 500 GB

- OS: Windows 10 Creator Update Professional 64 bit

I'm trying to install Windows XP Home 32 bit with the following configuration :

- CPU: 1 processor cores

- RAM: 2 GB

- Display: 1 1024x768 monitor with accelerate 3D graphics and 256 MB of memory

- HDD: 40 GB

But when I try to use the machine, it's very very slow :

VMware Workstation 12 Player slow graphics performance - Part 2 - YouTube

The problem is that when I go into the BIOS, I have slow graphics performance too :

I think it's not a driver problem because I have ever try to install VMware Tools and the problem persisted.

If someone can help me...

Thanks a lot

6.5-7.x compatibility with recent VMware Player releases?

$

I have a few old virtual machines that was made in VMware Workstation version 7, and it doesn't seem to perform properly with any other hardware compatibility. I began to search for a version of VMware Player that could play these old virtual machines without giving me a compatibility error, but I couldn't seem to find one that was compatible with my OS (Windows 10).

Is there a way to open my 6.5-7.x compatible virtual machines without spending the money to upgrade to VMware Workstation? Are there any Windows 10-compatible releases that also support these old VMs? Any responses would be appreciated.

How to upgrade from Vmplayer 12 to Vmplayer 14

Hi.

Yesterday I saw on your webpage that there was a new version of vmplayer (version 14), but when I look for updates via vmplayer's GUI, it says that there are no pending updates and a message to upgrade to vmware workstation pro.

Do I have to wait some time? I am using vmplayer for personal use.

Thanks.

Hey i have some problems when i try to start a Virtual Machine, it says "This hos does not support virtualizing real mode. The intel "VMX Unregistered Guest" feature is necessary to run the virtual machine on an Intel Processor. Module CPUIDEarly power on failed. Failed to start the Virtual Machine". This is the first time i get this message. I have a windows 10 pc with a Xeon w3530 Processor.

How to enforce/cleanup a whole corrupted Vmware Player installation on windows (without "normal" uninstall)?

Assume I have (under 64bit Win 7) a corrupted VmWare Player installation.

I could not uninstall it any more.

So I deleted the whole VmWare Player folder.

However there seem to be still uninstall entries in registry and maybe some more drivers.

How can I really, really uninstall all stuff from a previous VmWare Player installation without using a "normal" uninstall but by erasing all files and registry entries directly?

There is an old cleanup tool from the year 2005. However it seems to work not any more with v12.

is there an updated version?

I found a set of instructions for how to do this in workstation 9 at VMware Workstation Documentation Center , but the first command offered in that document...

mount -t vmhgfs .host:/ /home/user1/shares

... modified for my linux username and shared flder name, elicits the error ...

Error: cannot mount filesystem: No such device

It's basic. How do I share a file from guest to host?

Is new Player version v14 compatible with Intel Core i5 2400 Sandy Bridge?

$

As far as I have read the new Player version v14 has some more requirements for the used CPU.

Does that mean that an Intel core i5-2400 Sandy bridge does not work with v14?

That would mean VmWare player v12.5.7 is the last version for this kind of CPU.

I experienced difficulties when installing the new v14.

If v14 does not work I would have expected a warning popup: "CPU not supported for this Player version"

... but no warning appeared

Use different DNS server (host vs client)?

I'd like to disable access to my network's dns server on my client machine to prevent internet access - though it will still be connected to my network and the dns server will be "pingable". Is it possible to set the dns server on my virtual machine to enable internet access if it is disabled on the vmware host machine? Thank you.

The Specified File is not a virtual disk in VMWare Workstation or player

Long story on how we got here, but it ends with us having what used to be a VM on an external USB drive.  I am trying to launch in in workstation and i get the error in the title of this thread.  The vmdk seems to be multiple files, so when I try to use the vmware-vdiskmanager to repair/merge the files I get the error "failed failed to convert the disk: The file specified is not a virtual disk (0xf00003ebf).  Is there any way to merge this or any ideas from anyone on how to resolve this issue?

I have attached screenshots of the files that I have and the errors I am getting in cmd from merge and Workstation and player.

Thanks for the help.

VMWARE 14.0 problem with Bumblebee or Nvidia Card in Linux Host Machine

Sorry for my limited English.

The problem is: I installed the new VMWare Player 14 in my host Linux OpenSuse 42.3 with NVIDIA CARD with Optimus tecnology. I use the bumblebee and the command "optirun vmplayer" to utilize the NVIDIA Graphic Card. The version 12.5.7 work fine and use the bought video cards, but with the new version, with Nvidia Card, the vmware player open the first screen, and when I selected any option or any virtual machine, the program finish. The Intel Graphic Card is ok, the problem is only with the NVIDIA Card and the version 14 of the VMWare player.

I'm sending the log of the problem.

My NVIDIA Card is 720M

Thanks,

Issue with Player menu bar in VMware Workstation Player 12.1.1 with host OS Linux Mint 18

Using VMware Workstation Player 12.1.1 build-3770994  on Linux Mint 18 to make a Windows 7 VM. The issue is that on the VMware Player menu bar, where you usually see items like "File", "VM", and "Help", only "File" appears. However, once I have the "File" dropdown menu open, I can slide my mouse over to the right and the next (unlabeled) menu opens, and then if I slide my  mouse over a little more, the "Help" menu opens. Or I can click on the unlabeled part of the menu bar where the labels for those menus would be, and the dropdown menus appear.

Not a big thing, pretty much cosmetic since I can get to the unlabeled dropdown menus, but the Player is usually better than this. The menu bar labels and dropdown menus are usually all there, and the problems that I encounter are much more subtle operational problems. I've played around, but I don't see any way to bring the missing menu bar labels back. And I've removed and re-installed this (checked the md5sum after downloading, as well) and have seen the same thing both times.

Any way to get the full menu bar labeling? Am I the only one seeing this?

Thanks!

Can't install VM tools in guest machine

I'm evaluating VMware Player and I stumbled upon a problem.

I can't install VMware Tools in the guest machine (Windows 8.1). When I try i get:

Software update internal client error (CDS_HTTP_INTERNAL_ERROR). Contact VMware Support or your system administrator

I'm running VMware 12.5.7 on Opensuse Leap 42.3 - and to install I needed a modified files as described here:

VMware WS 12.5.6  fails to compile on openSUSE Leap 42.3 with kernel 4.4.68-2-default

VMware 14 is sadly not an option - I get identical error to the one described:

http://rglinuxtech.com/?p=2066

Any suggestions how can I get a successful install?

VMware player saying: "It cannot allocate memory", why?

$

Hey guys,

I just installed VMware Player 14 to my Fedora 26 and now my VMs would not start saying it cannot allocate memory for them. My PC has 16GB of memory, it says it has 9G free, my VMs have 4GB configured, why is it not finding memory to allocate?

Note: Version 12.5 on Fedora 25 could allocate memory just fine for the same VMs.

Any idea why is it saying this?

Thanks.

Issue with the menu bar

I installed the version 12 of Workstation Player some time ago. When I did that, I had to hit cttrl-alt to get the menu bar to drop down on all three vm's. I installed an update that was supposed to fix that issue. It fixed two of the vm's, but I still have the same issue with the third vm. I am now up to ver. 14 and still have the same issue with one vm. How do I fix that so it works like the other two vm's?
