Installing Browser-Appliance 10.0 in VMware Player

$

Hi,

I'm new to using vmware and I'm having difficulty installing Firefox's Browser-Appliance 10.0 into VMware Player.  The problem is when I go to create a virtual machine and try to give a pathway where it reads "Installer disk image file (iso)" but it comes up with "file not found" and "no operating system detected".

I even have trouble finding the pathway when I unzip Browser-Appliance 10.0 file, I've done this successfully before a few months but when when I went to do it again I couldn't remember how to do it.

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

cd burner won't burn, tried recommended settings

I have a Windows 7 host and Windows XP sp3 guest. Everything works well except the cd drive will not burn correctly. I have the drive settings as

scsi1:0.present = "TRUE"

scsi1:0.autodetect = "TRUE"

scsi1:0.filename = "auto detect"

scsi1:0.deviceType = "cdrom-raw"

scsi1:0.allowGuestConnectionControl = "TRUE"

I've tried 3 burning programs and all fail. They all stop and report they can't burn. Nero reports an unidentified error.

Nero Burning ROM identifies the drive as device "VMWare, VirtualCDROM",  adapter as "SCSI", and status as "OK"    Below is the Nero log. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Player with dual nics

I am new to VMWare Player.

I installed it on my Windows 7 computer with dual NIC's.  Each NIC is on a different network.  One is an onboard NIC and the other is a D-Link NIC.  I installed Win2008 R2 and had it use the D-Link NIC.  All seemed fine then I noticed I could not connect to the Win2008 server from a different network via RDP.  Naturally I thought his was an issue with the firewall.  I disabled it and checked a few other things but can not connect to it.  Are there any limitation or issues I should be aware of?

Unable to boot

I downloaded the Hadoop demo virtual machine from Cloudera and tried to open it with VMware Player on my 64 bit Windows 7 machine. The system has Intel i7 - 3720 QM processor with 24 GB of memory.

I am getting the following error:

"This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU"

I searched a bit and found out that it could be because the virtualization is usually disabled in the BIOS. I enabled it and cold booted the system.

I am getting the same error.

Could someone please help?

Thank you

Ravi

Kernel headers for version 3.1.9-1.4-desktop were not found

Hello,

Using OpenSUSE 12.1 x64;

jason@LINUX-PD:~> cat /proc/version
Linux version 3.1.9-1.4-desktop (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.6.2 (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Jan 27 08:55:10 UTC 2012 (efb5ff4)

I cannot run the latest greatest vmware player series >4.0 because my microprocessor is missing some features:  Release notes say Vmplayer4.0.2 must have LAHF/SAHF support.... this didnt come about in the pentium D 820.... created in 2 quarter 2005, but that support didnt get introduced by intel until 12/2005….

so I decided to use the same vmware version (VMware-Player-3.0.0-203739.x86_64.bundle) as my prior install ( I wiped a Opensuse 11.2 installation (copied the vmplayer xp image)  >  then installed a fresh new version of Opensuse 12.1)

when I try to start vmplayer  I get the following error (shortned)  "Kernel headers for version 3.1.9-1.4-desktop were not found"....

I have ensured the following:

YaST->Software->Software Management, select the 'View' tab (defaults to search). If you select patterns and scroll down the list there is a pattern called 'Base Development', and 'Linux kernel Development' select those and install

also from some posts that I have read the following are also installed:

  • libgiomm-2_4.1 (2.30.0-2.1.2)
  • glibmm2-devel (2.30.0-2.1.2)
  • linux-glibc-dev (3.1_rc5-7.1.1)
  • kernel-source
  • kernel-syms

Best setup for my needs (multiple [Win7] VMs, maximum performance)?

$

Hi everyone,

I use one desktop pc for all my daily business (work, dgaming, surfing etc) and want to maximize security and be able to reset the system to its "fresh and fast" status it has right after I set the machine up. After some reading I have come up with the following idea:

1 Host system (dont care if linux or windows)

Multiple VMs for the different tasks, each one set up for the specific needs.

I don't mind buying 2 or 3 Win7 licenses and would also use the VMWare package that suits my needs best (if it has to be bought so be it).

What I want to achieve is maximum performance on all VMs. Why not multiple boot you say? I think having some VMs and being able to copy / backup / reset them whenever necessary is easy and fast.

My current machine is an X58A-UD3R (Gigabyte) with an Intel i7 930 running @ 3.5GHz, 6GB RAM, 64 WIN 7 on a Crucial 128GB SSD.

  • How would you do this and what host system would you use?
  • What version of VMWare should I use (and why)?
  • Do you think there I will be able to get the same performance for my VMs that I currently have on my normal system?
  • I would like to be able to use 2 machines at the same time. Would that affect performance? Or is it possible to suspend one VM (fast and automatically) while using the other?
  • I do use a foot pedal (USB) and a headset (plantronics, also USB) for speech recognition (Dragon Naturally Speaking) a lot and would like to be able to use them in 2 of the VMs. Will there be a problem with this?

Thank you for any help or ideas!

Cheers,

Jan

Installation of VMware Tools.

I created a Windows 7 VM and a Ubuntu12.04 VM inside my Windows XP box.

VMware Tools failed to install as part of the "Easy Install".  Are there other ways to install VMWare Tools; for instance,

a download using a browswer with the newly installed VM?

Shared Folders between Win7 Home Premium (Host) and Windows 2000 (Guest)

Hi,

I´m running VMware Player 5 on a Windows 7 Home Premium Host.

The guest system is Windows 2000 SP4.

Recent version of VMware Tools is installed.

I can not get Shared Folders to work.

They are not automatically mounted (albeit the option "Map as network drive..." is activated).

I also can´t connect to \\vmware-host\Shared Folders\

Any hints? Is there a problem with the Home-version aof Windows 7?

I don´t see this problems if I run the same VM on a Win7 Enterprise Host.

Thanks for any reply.

Best,

  Wolfgang

Vmware player GUI is not visible on windows desktop

Hi all,

I have a windows 7 desktop. On it, I have ubuntu running on VMWare player. I've been using it for sometime without any error. A few days back I login to my desktop using a remote desktop connection and worked on my Ubuntu virtual machine. Now, I cannot see my virtual machine on my desktop. I know it is still running since I can see the icon in the taskbar. However when I click the icon, nothing can be seen on my desktop. As if it was sent to some other desktop port or something.

I tried to close it and restart my windows 7 and start the vmware player again. It started and shown as an icon in the windows taskbar, however the VMware GUI is nowhere to be seen. Can someone help me solve this problem? I really appreciate it.

An annoying 0xc0000005 error

Good morning!

I was running Server 2.0.2 when the host hard drive crashed.  New hard drive in, reinstall the host XP OS, and then realize Server is no longer supported.  I install Player 5.0.1.  I get this error.  Clicking OK makes player disappear.  If I ignore the message box, I am unable to create or use existing images.

Have you looked at the log?  It's listed in the OK message.

I tried that.  However, the directory does not exist.  There is not even a "local settings" folder, much less the tree beneath it.

What research have you done on this issue?

Apart from getting frustrated, that route has done little.  I have not gotten to the point where VMTools would be installed.  I ran CHKDSK /F.  I uninstalled and reinstalled.  I am already an administrator and I am assuming it ran the install as an administrator as well as executing as such.  (No limited accounts on the machine.)

So what are my options?  See if I can find a copy of Server 2 in my backup array?  Do I go and try Microsoft's VM offering?  *ick*

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I'm not an expert on vmware products or linux, please give explicit advice. Thanks in advance.

Choppy/Jittery Sound in XP Guest in Player 5 with Windows 8 Host

The sound quality is terrible from within an XP guest running under Player 5 on Windows 8 host.  The guest XP system has all updates installed available via Microsoft Update.  I deleted VM Tools and re-installed with no improvement.  Any ideas on how to fix this?  The VM was copied from another system running Workstation 8.

Thanks,

Mike.

What version of VMware Player do I choose?

Hi,

I am wondering what version of VMware Player I should choose? I have Windows 7 running as my host operating system and I want to have Secure-Appliance-Browser 10.0.9 (a Linux OS) as my guest operating system.  There appears to be five different versions of VMware Player in the VMware Player download section which has left me a bit confused as there is VMware Players for Linux and Windows but are the details for each version refering to the host or guest OS in the binary details supplied for each version?

Any advice will be much appreciated

VMWare Player Freezes Host (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)

I was having this problem with Player v 3.0 and just recently upgraded to 3.1 and I still have the same problem.

The guest vm is Windows Server 2003 32bit (x86).

When the system freezes is inconsistent and sometimes happens when I am using the VM or anytime after I have launched then suspened/shut down the VM.

The event log for Windows reports no errors.

2 NICs, 2 Separate physical Networks

I have VM player 5.01 installed in Win7 64-bit. My VM is WindowsXP SP3. I'm trying to get vnet0 to use 1 NIC (10.1.1.xxx) and vnet1 to use the second NIC (10.1.3.xxx). When I bridge to one net or the other only 1 of the connections works. I'm trying to get a piece of software that won't run in Win7 to communicate on both networks through the VM as the devices in our facility exist on 2 seperate networks. I have tried to use the vmnetcfg.exe but it doesn't appear to manage the configuration (it's probably something I'm doing).

If any other information is needed to help solve this I'll gladly provide it.

Thank you.

Can't run any of my existing VMs on Windows 7 64bit

Hello everybody...

I've been stuck for a couple of days trying to run my existing VMs on my new laptop which is running Windows 7 pro 64bit SP1.

I have 2 VMs :

1st) Windows 2003 32-bit: whenever I run it I get:

Error while powering on: Unable to open file "D:\Virtual Machines\vm_win2003ee_oracle\mx7116_d1\disk1.vmdk": The system cannot find the file specified.

while the vmdk file exists...

2nd) Windows xp 32 bit: whenever I run it i get:

Error while powering on: The file specified is not a virtual disk.

Notes:

1- No log files generated.

2- I've reinstalled and repaired multiple times.

Those VMs worked fine for me for a long time. I even have a backup of them which I restored but still I can't run those VMs.

Thanks a lot for you in advance... I really need it to work ASAP... I've even been thinking to format my lapto and install windows 32 bit OS. It will be a hussle for me in case I have to reinstall my laptop system....

Upgrading VM Player from 3.01 to latest version?

$

I have been using VM Player as the OS player for a Technical program that uses the VM version 3.01.  It asks me if I would like to upgrade to a newer version, but each time I try it tells me it is not possible with the current version installed.  Checking the Downloads for VM Player if I read them correctly I may not be able to do this for various reasons?  I have the required CPU/Hardware for the latest intallation.  I downloaded Version 5.1 and started to run it, but it now wants to Uninstall the current installation.  My concern is that the Tech program may not or will not then run under the newer VM Player installation IF it was issued or written for the VM Player 3.01 version.  The question is, will that make any difference if I do the uninstall of 3.01 then continue the 5.1 installation.  I don't want to lose the operational access to the technical program - it does use a coded entry during the installation CD and again I'm not sure whether there will be an option to re-enter that ID code in the new installation?  Any help will be appreciated, Thanks.

Vmware Player MSI Failed error on Windows 8

I have been trying to fix this for hours now with no help. The version is VMware-player-5.0.1-894247 on Windows 8 Pro. I am Administrator on this account.

I tried redirecting %TMP% to c:\temp == didn't help

I tried installing on Command prompt as an administrator with the /z switch = /z "action="install" ======= Didn't help

Did the /x ...didn't help either.

Even managed to get a portable Vmware but that failed to open the image file as the file paths aren't there.

Extracted the file and ran the msi, it failed on hcmon driver unable to install. There are no help for this issue as well.

Changed the file name to buggy.exe and did all Continum's random tips as well, didn't help fix.

Thanks in advance.
