Connection Anomaly

$

I'm running a VM of Windows 7 on my Windows 8 computer as a server for an online video game. Normally without a VM, to host the game, you simply install SQL Server 2008, make the proper SQL tweeks, port forward 30001 (for people to connect), and you're complete.

Well there seems to be an issue connecting to the game now. I bridged the connection because I don't know how to port forward a VM via NAT. What is weird is - I am only allowed to connect to the server one time, and when I log off the game and log back on it, I get "unable to connect" from the game's window. I check the game's server program and it shows no inbound traffic/no attempts for any log-ins. It will let me log in with a 10% chance if I repeatedly attempt, other than that, it seems that the VM is blocking my connection attempts.

---All firewalls are off.

---Ports are forwarded in the router.

---Disabled antivirus.

Ideas?

VMware Player for Linux: Windows Guest Constantly Scrolls Left While Running Alongside Linux Distro

I use Linux Mint as Host (Linux Ver. 3.5.0-17-generic) , and my Windows (Win 8 Ultimate from torrent) Guest on my installation of VMware Player version 5.0.1 build-894247 constantly scrolls left while running alongside another operating system (e.g Linux) on another instance of Player. I don't know what's my problem. Either it's the drivers, or something else. PLZ help me. Dunno if there are conflicts between any drivers or anything else.

P.S About Win 8 Ultimate: I WILL NOT BUY A LEGIT VERSION, SO PLEASE DON'T DAY I SHOULD LEAVE FROM USING TORRENT VERSIONS OF WINDOWS!!

Guest OS specs do not meet minimum requirements

Brand new VM user here. I have this issue when I try to play an XP game from 2006 on a guest system. Here are the details:

Host:

OS: Windows 8 PRO

Processor: Intel Core i7-3770k @ 3.5 Ghz

8 GB RAM

x64

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480

Guest: Windows XP Home

The game requires:

Windows XP

Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz or higher (2.5 Ghz recommended)

256M MB RAM

4 GB free hard disk

6x speed or faster DVD-ROM

128 MB Hardware T&L compatible video card

DirectX version 9.0c-compatible sound card

DirectX version 9.0c

When I start the game it tells me "your operating system does not meet the minimum requirements" and lists the following information: Can anyone tell me where the issue is and how I can work-around? My guess is it is something with the video or sound card. Thank you!

Hi,

Here is my Player version:

Product Name         Product Version
==================== ====================
vmware-player        5.0.0.812388

Recently, when starting any virtual machine, I got whole system (VMware's host) reboooted. Please help me!

I tested by restart VMware (/etc/init.d/vmware), backup and emtpy all log files:

/tmp/vmware-thepostman/vmware-player-xxx.log

/var/log/vmware/hostd.log

and try to start a virtual machine, but there isn't sigle new entry was recorded in those log files (checking after system booting up).

The same with message log file.

My system:

CentOS release 6.3 (Final) - Linux thepostman 2.6.32-279.22.1.el6.i686 #1 SMP Wed Feb 6 00:31:03 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Hw: Proliant DL580 - G5.

All virtual machine located on internal hard disks.

Thanks,

Problem with Linux Mint XFCE guest

I installed this from an iso image.  Fully updated the software.  The player window would

not resize.  When I used the linux display to increase the size, the player window would

briefly get to the correct size, then get small again and revert to the username screen.

Entering my username and password would just repeat the process.  Infinite login loop,

with a quick large screen between login screen.

Host is Win 7 64 bit, I updated the VMware tools before trying the resize.  This happened

with several attempts at a clean install of the guest OS.

I rebooted the guest after Mint updated, and again after VMwar tools updated.

Any suggestions?

Windows 98 in VMplayer

I'm running XP and Linux in VMplayer without problems.  As I have an old game which won't run even under XP I decided to install Windows 98 as another virtual OS.  It has been rather difficult but I now have Windows 98 installed and running.  Internet Explorer v4.0 didn't do anything so I managed to upgrade to v6.0 and the internet works.

Hogs of War by Infogrames installs without complaining but gives an error screen when I try to run it.  It requires Direct X 7 but this doesn't install from the game CD.  Downloading then Installing Direct X 7 didn't solve the problems.  I now have Direct X v8.1 installed but I still can't get the game running. This is what comes up in a black window on the screen when I try to run it.

Abnormal Termination.

TestBed: NO DirectDraw hardware!!!!!  (Error code 81197)

I'm thinking maybe a graphics driver problem that VMware tools can't handle.  Can anyone experienced in running Windows 98 games in VMware player suggest a solution?

Overview: guest machines (windows 7x64 and windows server 2008r2) hang at black/white vmware logo screen after a guest machine restart

Host: windows 7x64 home premium, running current version of vmware player w/ tools

Details: after a "restart", the guest machines both hang on the vmware black/white logo boot screen, the "starting" progress bar on the lower left does not progress. I must restart my host machine for the guests to boot up normally. The only known work around that I have found is to "shutdown" the guests instead of "resarting" the guests.

I'm currently doing MCITP testing and rebooting the machines is very common while working through the labs. Any ideas to make my life easier????

Ubuntu with XP Guest screen resolution defaults low @ startup

Hi

Every time I start up my VM the guest OS (Windows XP) loads in an 800x600 resolution and I have to manually change that to 1900x1080 to match my HTPC screen size!

How can I set VMware Player or te guest OS to retain the proper screen resolution on startup?

The VM is used to run XP so I can stream Netflix since Netflix (Silverlight) is not supported on Linus OS.

This is important as I can't expect non-techie users to mess with screen resolution every time they want to stream Netflix.

OS Info

Host: Ubuntu 12.10

Guest: XP pro SP2

Another question: Is there a way to set the VM to start automatically when I start VMware Player from the Host OS (to eliminate another user input)?

Windows 8 Pro - CD/DVD Drive trouble.

Hello fellow techies...

I have a problem with VMplayer not allowing me to play audio from the CD/DVD Drive within the guest operating system... Right thats the basics out of the way.

So at home I have a substantial computer network setup, I have spent the last two weeks installing all new rack servers, hubs and switches in the loft/attic to host digital content to all of the house, but anyways to the point... I've decided to host a few VMplayer machines using Windows 8 Pro on one of the servers which is a dual Xeon system with way to much ram, I more or less had no trouble setting everything up... everything works smoothly and allows me and my family to log into the VMs and to go about there buisness. My problem lies with the CD/DVD drives on the "guest" windows 8 pro VM, If for example aa Audio CD is inserted into the usb multi drive which is plugged into the host machine (which is running Windows 8 Pro also) the tracks can be seen on the "guset" OS, but when trying to play or in this case RIP the CD nothing happens at all... Media player pops up but just sits there as if its waiting to recieve something. I have tried many solutions I found on these forums but no go, I thought maybe because it is a USB drive it wouldn't work so I tried the servers SATA drive... nope!.

It's really fustrating as I can usually figure these things out but here I am four hours later, problem still exists and head is throbbing. Hopefully someone can help me out here, lets hope it's something stupid I have missed as I really want this to work.

Oh and just to add, I've tried reading a standard data disk and the software can be launced from it!!... this has properly made me flabbergasted... it does not compute.

So please, anyone that has had or has this problem share your knowledge with me, thanks, Gbmac.

Will this set up work?

Hello,

I am new to virtualisation and just want to make sure this set up will work before I purchase.

The machine itself is a Dell Inspiron 660.  It has an i5 processor and the B75 chipset.  Dell have said the B75 does support virtualization, but they themselves don't offer virtualization support on the product.

Will it be ok to use?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I have install windows 98 in VMWare Player and now I want to install software in my windows 98...

So I have an external floppy reader (USB 2.0) but VMWare doesn't see it?

To install some old software I have floppy disk and CD and other only floppy or CD... How should I make Vmware sees my external floppy reader and how to I install software in Windows 98 in VMWare Player?

Thanks,

VMware Player - Excessive use of hard drive

I have been looking into a fix for the post below and didn't find the Community for VMPlayer at the very start so I created and posted this first:

http://communities.vmware.com/message/2197748#2197748

I have since found the VMware Player group and have copied my post over to find a wider audience in the hope of a fix. Thanks, Jon

Hello and thanks for taking the time to look at this post.

I appear to have an uncommon issue (At least I failed to Google an answer over the last few days) where the VM will max out the Hard Drive while getting a terrible Read and Write speed and response time. At first I took this to be that the Hard Drive was failing, however I have ran extensive tests and I am happy that the Hard Drive is not the issue as this only occurs when one of my VM's is running.

The issue:

The Hard Drive the VM is running on suffers a terrible performance drop once a VM has been launched

(See Image)

http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/s535/OPWarmachine/SlowHHD04_zps668e2d2e.png

This only occurs during the operation of a VM however, The disk performs well when a VM is not running.

Example:

Test with just one VM Running (Image) - VM is idling and has been powered on for 20+ minutes

http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/s535/OPWarmachine/19-February-2013_19-45_zpsfececba1.png

Example test without a VM running:

http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/s535/OPWarmachine/19-February-2013_19-59_zps11b8045e.png

As you can see there is a massive loss in performance, and the VM does not run as smoothly.

I was hoping to run three to four VM's concurrently from the same disk, however the performance is woeful, so I am attempting to rectify the issues.

I am fully aware this could be down to a poor configuration setup, something stupid I have done somewhere so to provide as many clues as possible, please refer to the following set up I am using:

Host Info (Screen Shots):

vmrun getting close to useless with Player

In case anybody else goes through this...

I updated a client and wanted to continue with running their VMs using vmplayer (Linux host for winXP guest(s)), yet still make automated backups, preferably without shutting them down.

I finally found this document:

http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vix-api/vix112_vmrun_command.pdf

(much newer than the version I learned on)

Here's the important part

" Limitations
VMware Fusion does not support snapshot trees.
VMware Player does not support pause and unpause, snapshot operations, virtual machine cloning, or virtual hardware upgrade.
VMware Server does not support teams, shared folders, cloning, or multiple snapshots. When you try to create a second snapshot, the UI asks you to overwrite your existing snapshot.
The record and replay commands were deprecated in Workstation 7.1 and removed from this release."

So far VIX / Player just don't work together (which is why I was looking for the manual):

running as root, or the user who launched vmplayer:

# vmrun list
Unable to connect to host.
Error: Service type VIX_SERVICEPROVIDER_VMWARE_WORKSTATION was specified, but not installed

Random Disconnects of Audio Devices in VMs

$

System setup is the current VMware Player 5.0.1 build 894247 running on 64-bit Windows 7 SP1.

Virtual Machines are two 32-bit WinXP SP3 setups.

The host has two USB audio devices connected to it, in addtion to the RealTek HD audio system on the motherboard.   One is a Griffin Electronics "iMic", the other is a Behringer UCA202. Both devices use the generic Win7  usbaudio.sys  class driver.   I have successfully overridden the default mapping of the motherboard audio, and have mapped both USB devices through VMware Player correctly to show up in the VMs as the usual "Creative Audio PCI (ES1371" virtual device. (One USB device is used by each VM.)

Applications on the VMs receive a constant stream of audio input to the "line-input" jacks of the physical devices with absolutely no problems through the virtual Soundblasters in each virtual machine.

However,  when an application in the VM goes tooriginate audio (i.e. use the "playback" side rather than the "record" side of the virtual sound card), the virtual sound card will randomly disconnect.    There are no crashes, lockups  or error messages.  The speaker icon with the green virtual LED on the VMware tool bar just greys out, and all audio activity, input or output, ceases.     The failure is non-fatal -- I can right-click the speaker icon, choose "Connect" and the setup starts functioning again -- for a while.    .

There  appeares to be no consistent repeatable pattern to the disconnect.  Sometimes the disconnect happens almost immediately, other times it will be several hours and multiple playback sessions before the disconnect occurs.   I have determined that it is PLAYBACK that triggers the failure - Applications in the VM can use audio input to the "Record" side of the virtual Soundblaster indefintely without failure, as long as I don't attempt any playback activity.

I'm not sure how Direct-X on the VM machines affects all this, but for what it's worth, the latest and last ever version for XP (9.0c) is installed.

I found a forum post elsewhere on the site about fixing audio problems with an entry in the VMX something like this:

usb.quirks.device0 = "0x08BB:0x2902 skip-reset, skip-refresh, skip-setconfig"
usb:0.present = "TRUE"
usb:0.deviceType = "hid"
usb:0.port = "0"
usb:0.parent = "-1"

but it had no effect on the problem.

Any throughts on patches, updates, or  "magical mystery" registry tweaks (either on the host or in the VMs), or similar entries in the VMX files to address this issue????

For reference, here is a dump of  the VMX file of one of the VMS.

Hello everybody,

I would like to know if there is anyway that I can ping a VM without having internet connection in my computer. This VM is running apache to publish some content and I would like to be able to use this in places where there is no internet.

If you need any clarifications don't hesitate to shoot.

Thanks,

Aris

Vmware Player 5.0.1 Windows 7 Install Fix

The solution I found when I was trying to reinstall Vmware on the Windows 7 operating system was to

1.) Clear all the files from Windows Local Disk (C:)/ Programs x86/Vmware

2.) Clear all the VMware files from Windows Local Disk (C:)/Windows/System 32/Config and Local Disk (C:)/Windows/System 32/drivers

3.) Than delete all the temp files on your computer.

4.) Next download the Free Windows Registry Repair. Link for this program is below.

{ -------> http://download.cnet.com/Free-Window-Registry-Repair/3000-2086_4-10606555.html<-------- }

5.) After the program is installed run the registry repair.

6.) When you see the list of registry errors go to any of the rows and right click on it.

7.) Than go to Registry Editor.

8.) From there you will have to look though each file and look at the description of the file to see if it belongs to the Vmware company. (These files will have an indicator such as, VMbooter and so-forth. make sure to look for VM in the file name).

9.) After you have all the files wiped from your Hard Drive, run a Disk Defrag and Disk Clean just to secure your execution.

10.) Than you want to go to the VMware web site to download the version of the vmware you previously had such as, 3.0.1, 4.0.1, and so on. This will be the MSI file you need which is uncorrupted

* While the program is reinstalling you will notice the the prompt will ask if you want to uninstall your current version of VMware. You notice that is nothing in the description. (Do to the cleared off files and a hidden kernel in the program) *

11.) As soon as the older MSI file  downloads. Install the Newest MSI file (Currently VMware Player 5.0.1) and you should see no complications if all the step have been complete meticulously.

Problem starting VM after import

Hello felas,

After a new install of my Host OS I installed VMware Player and choose Open a Virtual Machine from the VMware Player main screen, I choose my VM and hit ok. It's now showing in the list, but when I try to start it I have an issue I'm not being able to solve myself. The following error is displayed:

Error while powering on: The partition table on the physical disk has changed since the disk was created. Remove the physical disk from the virtual machine, then add it again.

I tried going into this Virtual Machine Settings and disconecting any other drives I have connected to the VM but I can't change anything.

One other thing, this VM I'm trying to start it's on a saved state.

Many important things are in this VM, I apreciate any help. Thanks.
