Keyboard going crazy in Windows XP virtual machine

0
0

I have been using Player for a few days and at random times, the keyboard starts launching different apps in Windows XP for no apparent reason.  It almost seems like a keyboard macro function gone crazy.  I certainly didnt set anything like that up.  Does anybody have any thoughts?  I have experimented with ALT-TAB ing between apps when this happens and it seems to fix the problem temporarily.

I actually have also installed VMWare Workstation for a 30 day trial and its doing the same thing.  Help please.

Bridged connection problem

I am running Player 5.0 on Windows 7.  The guest VM is WinXP.

When I use Bridged for the VM network connection, the VM cannot get the IP address from DHCP. (NAT works fine).

If I copy the same VM to another VMWare Player on a different physical machine (which uses the same wireless router), that same VM can now get the IP address from DHCP correctly.

So it looks like the problem is with one of my Player installations.

Any idea of where to look to fix this problem?

Thank you,

Ugo

When I started vmplayer is promped me to update, I said yes, and then said it would "uninstall vmplayer" before installing new version. I stoped the install of the update. My question I cannot find the anwer to is, if it uninstalls vmware player does'nt that uninstall everything? including the OS I have installed in vm player?

In other words if I update and allow it to unintall and reinstall, then I have to also reinstall ubuntu and windows XP aswell, and all software intalled on those OS?

How to switch between multiple vm?

Hi!

I have a win7/64 host and run up to 4 vm's on it, each one in fullscreen mode.

In version vmware player 4.xx I had two arrows in the bar at the upper side of the screen, which allowed me to switch easily between the different machines.

Now I updated to player 5, and the two arrows are not longer present.

Do you have any hint how to switch between the different machines in the easiest way?

Thanks a lot!

5.02: NAT stopped working (bridged works)

Running VMWare Player in Linux (Ubuntu 12.10), updated to 5.02 and now the NAT networking isn't working. The only way I can get a network connection from the VM is via bridged. This is true of guest VMs running Windows 7 and another Linux install (Ubuntu 12.04).

I can live with it this way but would much prefer to use NAT.

Thanks for any ideas...

Hi everyone,

I downloaded VMware 5.0.2.1031769. After I press enter on the installing package all I get is the setup stuck at this window:

vmware.jpg

And nothing else.
Tried many times with no luck.

I tried even with 4.0.5.89893925 but with the same issue. Every time I have to invoke task manager and terminate the setup.

Host machine is equipped with an AMD64 3000+ @2GHz, 1GB RAM DDR400 under WindowsXP Professional SP3 (x86).

What's wrong?

vmware-vmrc is not compatible with recent versions of glibmm

0

If I have sent these questions to the wrong forum, can someone please tell me where I shall send them.

vmware-vmrc in file vmware-vmrc-linux-x86-3.0.0-309851.xpi at
https://github.com/vmware/rvc/downloads is not compatible with new versions of
glibmm-2.4 (from version 2.28, released 2011-04-15).
Is there a newer version of vmware-vmrc that can be used together with the
newest versions of glibmm?

For those who don't know: Glibmm is open source software, used by several of
VMware's programs, among them vmware-vmrc and VMware Player.

The long story (primarily intended for a VMware software developer)

Glibmm bug 681206 (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=681206) complains
about segfaults in Glib::OptionGroup::CppOptionEntry::release_c_arg() when running vmware-vmrc.
The incompatibility between glibmm and vmware-vmrc arose when I fixed bug
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=589197. I changed the use of
protected data member Glib::OptionGroup::map_entries_, without thinking of the
possibility that an application program can derive a class from
Glib::OptionGroup and use protected data for its own purposes. Now I've seen
that vmware's class lui::OptionGroup in libvmwareui.so.0 does just that.

Have you noticed this problem, and modified lui::OptionGroup?
If not, are you willing to modify it?
If not, are you willing to let me see the source code of lui::OptionGroup?
Then I can probably suggest a suitable modification.
In the worst case, I suppose I will have to modify Glib::OptionGroup, to once
again make it compatible with some existing version of vmware-vmrc. That task
would be easier if I can have a look at the source code of lui::OptionGroup,
to see exactly what it does. I can't just undo the modifications of bug 589197.
That bug fix introduced new functionality in Glib::OptionGroup that other
people are probably using now.

It's possible that I broke API when I fixed bug 589197. I'm not sure if the
exact use of protected data members is considered part of the API.

Accessing NATted VMachines from computers in the host's address space

In my environment, I can't have the Virtual machines getting their IP addresses from DHCP, so I'm running them NATted. Is there any way to access the VMachines from other computers in the host's address space?

There's a couple of VMachines, and I need them to be seen through more ports than is practical with port forwarding.

VPN somehow?

How come there no graphics card support?

0

1. Any reason why not having one?

2. What will happen it enabled the graphics card in the VMWare Workstation?

3. Is there a list of games can run without a problem? So far Diablo, Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 doesn't have any issue.

Anyway thanks for fixing the sounds issue. Windows XP Pro 32-bit no longer have the sounds issue in the new VMWare Workstation.

Also thanks for fixing the drag and drop. Fully working now.

If you want to try out a cool game then try this. Typhoon 2001 r3992 and it works.

Vmware Player MSI Failed error on Windows 8

I have been trying to fix this for hours now with no help. The version is VMware-player-5.0.1-894247 on Windows 8 Pro. I am Administrator on this account.

I tried redirecting %TMP% to c:\temp == didn't help

I tried installing on Command prompt as an administrator with the /z switch = /z "action="install" ======= Didn't help

Did the /x ...didn't help either.

Even managed to get a portable Vmware but that failed to open the image file as the file paths aren't there.

Extracted the file and ran the msi, it failed on hcmon driver unable to install. There are no help for this issue as well.

Changed the file name to buggy.exe and did all Continum's random tips as well, didn't help fix.

Thanks in advance.

Access files from a different computer

Hi,

I have windows 8 with VMware Player 5.0.1 installed.

In VMware, I installed Centos 6.3, I'm running a Ruby on Rails development website from it.

Virtual Machine IP: 192.168.118.162

Host IP: 192.168.2.127

Network computer IP: 192.168.2.119

I can access the VM site from:

- Virtual Machine - http://192.168.118.162

- Host (windows 8) - http://192.168.118.162

- Network computer (windows 7) - http://192.168.2.127

Everything is fine here

I can access the VM files from:

- Virtual Machine

- Host \\192.168.118.162

I would like to be able to access my files from my network computer too.

Here is my NAT config

vm_config.png

I spent a lot of time to set up everything already, my knowledge is pretty limited at this point.

What should I do? Thanks.

Unusable openSUSE after upgrade.

Hallo,
My setup is the following:
Host: Windows XP 64bit SP2, on a dual Xeon E5130 CPU with 8GB RAM and NVidia Quadro FX3500 card
Guest: openSUSE 12.2, 32 bit
Hyper-visor: VMWare Player 5.0.1 build-894247
Guest Conf: 2vCPUs, 3GB RAM
Problem: Extremely slow KDE.

I run my openSUSE 12.1 from day 1 of it's release with reasonable speeds under VMWare Player 4 & 5.
The previous Friday, I decided to upgrade the openSUSE 12.1 to 12.2 via zypper.
Everything was fine, except of the speed and the unresponsive screen after a few minutes with sreensaver on.

First I thought that the problem was the stock KDE 4.8, so I upgraded to 4.9, the same version of KDE as I had in 12.1.

Nothing.

Both problems are important, and render my VM to a useless machine!

When I change active applications in KDE, I can see on the screen how the windows are paintedIt

It requires 1-2 seconds to render thetitle bar on a full screen application!
So, I need your help to find what option causes my PC to be that slow.

The second problem is much more strange. I can resume my KDE session a few minutes after the lock it. If I wait enough time (eg one hour), then, I cannot see anything on the VM!

Downgrading from  12.2 to (eg) 12.1 is not possible.

Please help me identify the problem and to solve it.

Thank you.

Possible bug in VMWare Player 5.0.x

Hallo,

I have found a possible bug in VMWare Player 5.0.x

I run the VMWare player 5.0.2 and I had the same problem with 5.0.0 and 5.0.1 too.

My Setup:

Host: Windows XP 64bit, SP2/Updated to the latest version.

CPUs: Dual Xeon 5130

RAM: 8GB

VGA: nVidia Quadro FX 3500, Running the 307.45 driver.

Guest: Fedora 18 Live, openSUSE 12.2 Live, openSUSE 12.2 Local Installation

Problem:
Lock the Windows (with Win+L or Ctrl-Alt-Del+Lock Computer).

Resume Windows

VMWare player shows only just the Windows wallpaper. It is not possible to see anything in the VM screen.

Suspending and resuming the VM is a way to have the sreen working again.

Note that VM IS accessible via CLI, and all of its services runs fine. It's just the display that is not working.

Using VMware Player on a Windows 7 system and I am trying to use Windows 98 virtual machine to play some old games and it works fine but every time I close VMware Player and restart it and start the win 98 virtual machine I am having to go through setup for win 98 again, also I am using my physical cd/dvd drive with the program and when ever I close out of VMware Player it locks my cd drive closed and I have to restart my computer for it to work again. What am I doing wrong? Help and advice is appreciated Other than that I am going to try to get the sound working

Player upgrade vs Mint 14 Cinnamon

0
0

After upgrading to Player 5.0.2 this morning, my workhorse Linux Mint 14 32bit Cinnamon became unusable- not responsive to mouse clicks. Fortunately, Ctrl-Alt-F1 works so I got to experiment from an alternate console. Gnome logins work OK.

After much, much experimentation on that VM, I installed a fresh player VM with a straight-up install of Mint 14.1 32bit Cinnamon from the ISO image. When it was finished, installed vmware tools, rebooted, ran updates, rebooted, and reinstalled tools. Mouse worked fine on the new VM until the reboot on the last updates. Now that VM's Cinnamon login doesn't have a functional mouse either. Again Gnome Classic works OK.

I've tried many things on the first VM today: dpkg-reconfigure of cinnamon, purged and re-installed cinnamon, moved aside all my home dir config files, running cinnamon-config from Gnome, tried different sessions, etc. I can log into Cinnamon on both VM's but then it is stuck, the mouse moves but cannot activate any menus, right click, desktop icons, nothing. Gnome Classic works OK on both.

Since the Cinnamon mouse problem recurred the moment the new install was done updating, I can only think that either Cinnamon is broken or the latest updates to it are incompatible with Player 5.0.2.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas for workarounds?
