Ping but no browser access

$

I installed Player5.0.2 on Windows 7 and, and then installed Windows Server 2012 with the gui. All that went just fine. The server can access the host hard drives; the network icon says internet access. Network sharing says internet access on the Server. On the Host, also, the Network and Sharing information says Internet access. On the VM Server 2012 I can ping sites but when the browser (both IE and Firefox) attempt to resolve a URL I get connection times out. I can ping both by url and IP.

Any help is appreciated. I'm a bit of a novice at this, as is probably obvious.

Where can I safely download VMware Player 5?

I am new to VMware. I wanted to download the latest version of VMware player. According to the documentation that would be VMware 5. The download page ( Player Version History ) * www.vmware.com/download/player/download shows the latest version to be

VMware Player 2.5.5

Latest Version: 2.5.5 | 2010/12/02 | Build: 328052

I downloaded that, but the interface is not like the documentation and I see no way to create a new virtual machine. I downloaded version 5 from vmware-player.en.softonic.com but that just installed malware on my system. Where can I safely download version 5

Thanks,

VMPlayer VNC Freezing Bug

$

The error is very easy to reproduce,

Vmplayer version: 5.0.2

How to reproduce: Start a Full screen 3D application in vmplayer, use VNC viewer to connect the client. Then request full screen update in the VNC client. The VNC viewer freezes and could not receive anymore updates. The reason seems due to VMPlayer not sending updates anymore.

mac address of vm to other hosts....

I have a small LAN with a handful of hosts. One is a Win7 box with vmware player(latest version) and a virt...al machine using bridge mode. The issue is that to the other hosts on the network, the mac address of the vm appears to be the same mac address of the host win7 box. Is this the normal behavior? Is there a way to change it?

Machine fails to boot: VMWare Player unrecoverable error

Greetings all,

I've done lots of research on this topic; I have come across many people with similar errors (but not my exact one), so I'm hoping someone out there will have the answer...

My machine will not boot. When I try to kick it off, I get the following message:

"Cannot open file "C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\VirtualMachines\DevMachine\ace.dat": The system cannot find the file specified.

VMWare Player unrecoverable error: (vmplayer) NOT_IMPLEMENTED d:/build/ob/bora-812388/bora/lib/disklib/sparseChecker.c:1291"

Full log file is attached.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

VM fusion to VM player conversion problem

Hi,

I created and was using a VM on VM Fusion. It worked perfectly fine when I was using it on our Mac computers on VM Fusion. But as soon as I tried to move the VM to a window computer via a zip file I tried to run it on VM player and it came up with an error....

"

Invalid configuration file. File "C:\Users\X\Documents\VMWARE\XXXXXXX.vmwarevm\CentOS 64-bit.vmx" was created by a VMware product with more features than this version of VMware Player and cannot be used with this version of VMware Player.

Cannot open configuration file C:\Users\X\Documents\VMWARE\XXXXXX.vmwarevm\CentOS 64-bit.vmx."

"

What am I doing wrong? Any help would be incredibly helpful.

Getting started with VMware or booting in Win 8 from the DVD

I am not well versed with any of this, but I have a homework assignment and I have completed everything up to Part 2 step 5.

5. When the root@bt:~# prompt appears, type iwconfig and then press

Enter. Note the interface that is associated with IEEE 802.11.

6. When the root@bt:~# prompt appears, type iwconfig interface channel

number. For example, if the interface is wlan0 on channel 11, type

iwconfig wlan0 channel 11 and then press Enter.

7. When the root@bt:~# prompt appears, type airmon-ng start interface.

For example, if the interface is wlan0, type airmon-ng start wlan0 and

then press Enter.

In step 5 I cannot Note the interface that is associated with IEEE 802.11.

This is because there is none. I have tried this running Backtrack 5 R3 in both Virtualbox and VMware player on my HP laptop running Windows 8 (Non Pro) with the same result. I just see :

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extentions.

I should also mention I did enable virtualization support in the bios.

SO I burned a DVD from the Backtrack ISO file. I got an older laptop to boot from this DVD, but that laptop has other problems. I cannot get my HP to boot feom the DVD, I have disabled Secure Boot and Fast Boot and have tried moving both the USB CD/DVD Rom and Internal CD/DVD Rom drives to the top of the UEFI boot order. I even tried enabling Legacy Support and moving them up in that list also. To make sure it was not the DVD I burned a Windows XP Installation CD with the same results.

One thing I did not do is switch from booting with "UEFI" to "CSM". I did not see any such option in the BIOS.

I need to achieve this by using the DVD or a virtual machine or any other method I might not know about.

I will appreciate any assistance.

Thanks,

Bug in DOS-Function FindFirst / FindNext File

$

I have several DOS programs which run excellent under real Win XP, but under virtual XP they run faulty. These Programs find existing files, but report some of them twice (instead of once).

To find existing files they use DOS Intr 21H, AH=4E (FindFirst) and 4F (FindNext). Under virtual XP typically the first 7 or 8 files or directories are reported twice, the rest is then ok. On drive C: the bug does not exist, only on the other drives, which are mapped to the host network like.

An old Norton Utilities Tool shows exactly the same bug. Under real XP everything is perfect.

Please can anybody help?

Host is Win 7 SP1 Home Premium 64 bit

Guest ist Win XP SP3

VMware is 5.0.2

Logfile shows nothing at that time.

User Player w/o VT-X Support of CPU

Hi,

I have an CPU (Intel Core Duo E7400 with 2.80GHz, Wolfdale, Socket 775 LGA) that does not support VT-X.

The Host Operating system is Vista 64 bit. Can I use the vmware player to run vista 64bit images in that environment? Or is that not possible w/o VT-X?

Canon MP510 on za Playa

Hi,

I have a few holy good software that are running under Win98 so I got installed it on VM Ware Player.

Now I would use all of their features, printing too.

I have a "not so old" Canon MP510 and I thought it would be the same old way. Running the CD. Feed the printer with right drivers ... but the usb printer plugged-in signal is not caught by VMPlayer and there's no usb port in the VM : LPT1, COM1 & 2 and FILE but no USB001 or so.

The Device Manager warns me of 2 PCI Peripheral that have't been properly installed but as my problem deals with usb I don't think I could be linked.

Any good advice or maybe even a full walkthrought out of this mess would be greatly appreciated.

VMware Player Bridged using wireless NIC on host

I am running a windows 7 laptop  with a wireless NIC.  When I create my vm (win2k8) and bridge it to the wireless NIC it gets an IP, but can't get to anything.  I can't ping the gateway or my host IP.  My host does not have any connectivity issues.  I also tried vmware server 2 and get the same results.  It seems to work if I use the ethernet port.  One thing I did notice is that in the player it shows vmnet0, vmnet1, and vmnet8, however in my network adapters on the host I do not see vmnet0 (bridged) listed.

Let me know if there is a trick to getting this to work.

Why does the Removable Devices dialog keep popping up, even when having ticked 'Do not show this hint again'?

$

With VMWare Player 4.0.2 build-591240, when it detects newly attached USB device, a dialog box will appears as shown in the attachment.

This dialog box keeps appearing, when new devices are detected, even when having ticked the 'Do not show this hint again' option.

Why?

Updated tools, now cant change settings

Ok first some prerequisites: Linux Mint 15 x86_64, VMplayer 5.0.2, Vmware-tools 9.2.3.

Updated vmware tools using root. Wouldn't let me do it via my user (which btw is an administrator)

Now when I load a client I can't change ANY settings. Everything is grayed out.

It was (the client) working before my dang root got involved

Please tell me what I can do

Hello,

I've just updated my kernel to 3.10.0-997-generic. After that VMWare Player doesn't start anymore.

I've tried to run patches and different solutions I found in google, but it didn't worked yet.

This is the log of my last attempt.

Thanks in advance

How to allocate the fixed size of memory for guest OS

I'm using VMware Player 5.0.2 (Host OS is win7) and a Ubuntu virtual machine(Guest OS).

I need the Guest OS have all the memory it is set (for example 2GB) in setting when it is started instead of dynamic allocation.

When the Guest OS is power on , I should see the memory usage increase 2GB in the Windows Task Manager.

In the past, I had fix this issue by the parameters like below, but it doesn't work now.

mem.ShareScanTotal=0

mem.ShareScanVM=0

mem.ShareScanThreshold=4096

sched.mem.maxmemctl=0

sched.mem.pshare.enable = "FALSE"

mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE"

prefvmx.useRecommendedLockedMemSize="TRUE"

prefvmx.minVmMemPct="100"

MemTrimRate = "0"

MemAllowAutoScaleDown = "FALSE"

Anyone who give a solution will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Guest mouse pointer only moves on click when in unity mode

I have an Ubuntu 13.04 host running Windows 7 Professional in VMWare Player 5.0.2, and I'm having a problem with Unity mode.  After switching to Unity mode, the guest's mouse pointer only moves when I click the mouse button (or scroll the scroll wheel).  Additionally, each click generates a click-and-drag from the last mouse position to the current mouse position.  After doing some experimenting, this problem only seems to occur when I'm using the proprietary fglrx Radeon driver.  Using the open source radeon driver does seem to allow me to use Unity mode without problem, but graphics performance is low enough that I can't really consider that a long term solution.

Anyone else had this problem (I've had it on two different computers, with two different radeon cards) or have any advice as to how to fix it?

Mouse ungrab / release problems - VMware Player 5, Windows 8 host, Debian Wheezy guest

VMware Player 5, Windows 8 host, Debian Wheezy guest - with VMware Tools installed.

I have some strange behaviour that is quite irritating.

The mouse is automatically grabbed when I mouse over the guest - I want this.

When leaving the guest window - the mouse is kind of stuck, it leaves the window area a few hundred pixels, flashes and is relocated back into the guest window, this repeats rapidly until after about 10 seconds the mouse is released. Alt-ctrl does release as expected.

Any ideas how to fix this?

(or how to further diagnose this?)

More details on the installation.

New machine created in VMware Player 5, fresh 64bit Debian Wheezy install with xfce4. VMware tools from VMware. Tried apt-get install open-vm-tools same behaviour.

A 32bit Debian Wheezy guest, copied from Windows 7 host works correctly (releases the mouse as expected) on the new setup.

Thanks for any clues!

Hi,

I would like to set up a Virtual Machine for learning C programming.  Can I use Linux or have to use Unix ?  Just wonder which Linux distribution uses less power on my Windows 7 workstation and available free of charge?

Your advice is sought.

Thanks

Upgraded to Player 5 - Can't launch VM from shortcut anymore.

Since installing Player 5, my desktop shortcut to a VM no longer works.  When I click it, instead of lauching the VM, it peppers my Desktop with temp files and then complains it cannot find the VM.  Has anyone else run into this issue?
