Why no USB 3 HDD win 8 Player 5

$

Successfuly installed Player 5 on win 7 x64 host.  I then created a win 8 guest vm with latest tools added.  OS seems to work ok, but...

It gives me a message upon load that my LaCie 2TB Minimus USB 3 external HDD is available from the tools bar.  It shows an icon for it which I right click then select "Connect(disconnect from host)".  However the LaCie connections fails.  It gives a message telling my that specifically my LaCie could not connect, but only then says "Driver error".  I've tried connecting both with the HDD already connected / disconnected to the host and get the same result.

I am new to vm's and vmware and cannot use vmware if I cannot get to my LaCie.  I intend on buying Workstation if I can get the basics working on Player.

Linux Server - Private and Public IP Addresses

Hi all, new to the forums, pleasure to meet you!

I'm setting up a VMware player server. I have an internal IP in my local network of 10.1.1.30 and a public IP address of lets say 30.30.30.30

when I bridge the connection to my linux VM server and manually configure my internal IP (on linux using ifconfig eth0 10.1.1.30) I am able to ping the local internal address, but not the external address of 30.30.30.30

however if I change that 10.1.1.30 to my host machine (my windows XP machine, not the VM) the external IP 30.30.30.30 becomes pingable.

What gives?

My current setup, I have a Windows XP machine of IP address of 10.1.1.29 and a Linux VM (Ubuntu based) of IP 10.1.1.30.  The internal IP 10.1.1.30 is supposed to be linked to the external IP of 30.30.30.30 and can only be actually done on the host machine (at the moment), not the VM, it just can't make that connection.

And in the VM settings, under Network Adapter, the settings are set to 'Bridged' so that I can make the VM exist in the same subnet as the host machine, the 10.1.1.x subnet.

Do I do NAT, do I do Bridged? come on folks, a point in the right direction, I've been at it for 3 days now.

Windows 2008 can not be booted in vmplayer 5

Hi All,

I used vCenter Converter to copy Windows 2008 R2 to target machine.  Target OS is Windows 7 64 bit.

The conversion was successful.

Then I tried to start Windows 2008 in Vmplayer 5.  A black screen appeared and gave error "operating system not found".

So I tried to start virtual machine and entered its Bios setup.  I were able to find "Hard Drive" and "VMware Virtual SCSI Hard Drive (0:0)" on the top of the list.

What could be the cause of "operating system not found" error?

Thanks a lot!

Running a VMware Player with Server Via NAT

Is it possible to run a VMware Player with a server (such as Ubuntu) using NAT?

I basically want to use the host machine's IP address to send and receive data to and from the VM

VM is not portable (AMD-Intel or Player 4.0.4-5.0.2 problem)?

I always understood VM's can be freely moved from one host to an other one. However I recently ran into serious problems with this:

Environment:

My Desktop: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T / 16GB / Win7 Ultimate x64 / VMPlayer 4.0.4

My Notebook: Intel Core 2 Duo / 4GB / Win7 Professional x64 / VMPlayer 5.0.2

I use VMPlayer on my home machine since a long time. I have several VM's for banking and testing software before I install it. In the VM I use Win7 as OS. Recently I wanted to use a VM (created some time ago on my Desktop) on my notebook. I installed the latest release of VMPlayer (5.0.2) and moved the VM to the notebook.

When I started the VM on the notebook I got the messages shown in SC1 (Binary translation is incompatible...) and SC2 (This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest ...). I enabled VT-X in the BIOS and after downloading several Windows Updates I was able to run the VM (pretty sluggish by the way, but I blame this on smaller RAM).

After having returned home I moved the VM back to my desktop machine (still running VMPlayer 4.0.4). After this the Win7 guest operating system complained about not being genuine and tried me to sell a licence upgrade.

I will upgrade my desktop to VMPlayer 5.0.2 - but I think this is hardly the reason for those troubles.

1) Any ideas what caused the problem?

2) Am I correct, that it should be possible to move the VM between Desktop and Notebook?

3) Do I need to set up the VM's in a certain way to make it portable?

Hi; I am running Windows 7, 64 Bit OS. I am experiencing the following error message: "Error while powering on: The operation was canceled by the user" when I attempt to power up my VMWare Player from a "Suspended" state. It works fine until then.

Thanks

VMWare Player VM Crash - There is not enough space on the disk

This afternoon I started getting error message on my VM and then it crashed to the desktop.

Through some searching I checked the log file and it appears per the log that I ran out of diskspace.

But I am unable to do anything with the disk to expand the space. VMPlayer constantly tells me "the file specified is not a virtual disk".

I could really really use some help with this. Any ideas to get this started up again?

As you can see disk 12 is size 0.

VMware Player Setup Dialog Box is BLANK on Install or Uninstall

I have spent 2-3 hours combing through the discussion boards and I can't find a solution. I've also noticed that this is a very common issue and many of the solutions don't actually apply to the problem. hey tend to be generic fixes or fixes for other Windows versions (which might work) or other software (which don't seem to work at all). So please (please) don't refer me to solutions that don't specifically address the issue. On the other hand, please do add actual fixes that actually worked so that the next poor slob who has this error will find useful info all in one place. Thanks :-)

Host computer: Windows XP Pro (32-bit)

Previously installed VMware Player 3.something and it worked fine.

I recall the same error back when I installed it 1-2 years ago, but I can't recall the fix I used.

I downloaded, verified, and then ran the latest Player (VMware-player-5.0.2-1031769)

I got a blank "VMware Player Setup" Dialog Box.

I waited for 5-10 minutes and with nothing happening I did an "End Task".

I rebooted the computer and tried again. Same problem.

I searched for an answer here and realized I had to uninstall the Player 3.xxx first.

Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> VMware Player -> Uninstall = the same problem (blank Dialog Box)

I checked the error log the error is: ERROR** CHtmlDialog::CallJScript: Failed to obtain required required jscript ID; COM Error: -2147352570

I ran the VMware_Install_Cleaner.exe, deleted temp folder contents, rebooted, and tried uhninstall -> same problem

I tried the fix here: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1027986

  1. Open a command prompt. For more information, see Opening a command or shell prompt (1003892).
  2. Run these commands to re-register the necessary files and details:
    • If VMware Workstation is installed on a 32-bit version of Windows:
      • regsvr32 jscript.dll
      • regsvr32 vbscript.dll

I received a message that both had succeeded. I restrted Windows (rebooted), cleaned up temp folder, tried to uninstall -> same problem

I stopped my AV software and tried to uninstall again -> same problem

I deleted the contents of the temp folder and tried uninstall again -> same problem

I cleaned up the Registry, rebooted and tried the uninstall again -> same problem

I tried installing without uninstalling. I tried various suggestions including unpacking the file into a folder (vmplayer) on the root of C:, and manually installing using the x86 msi file. That method failed because of multiple errors.

    So...

    1) How do I uninstall the player 3.xxx version and clean up so that I have a clean,no vmware player system?

    2) How do I install the player 5.xxx without this blank dialog box error.

    Thank you.

vmware player 5.0.2 on Mageia 3 RC x86_64 problem

I'm having problems getting vmware player 5.0.2 x86_64 running on Mageia 3 RC (x86_64) which is at kernel 3.8.11.
(I note in this context that the vmware-modconfig script whose output is reproduced below is using the kernel 2.6.x kernel build system.  Is this part of the problem and how do I work around this?)
VMware player 5.0.2 x86_64  installed uneventfully, several vmware processes are running.  If I try and start vmplayer however, it crashes with:

    # cd /usr/bin
    # ./vmplayer
    Logging to /tmp/vmware-root/vmware-modconfig-31594.log

Any ideas?  Would really appreciate some help as to where to go from here.
    Thanks to all,
    Tony Blackwell

I did re-run config stuff as below.  There are 2 files: the console stuff immediately following this, and after some white space, the log file of attempting to run vmplayer, as referred to above:

Problem statement :  VMware-player-4.0.3-703057 .exe always stops  and give MSI error through pop up window

                                       C:\Users\kukhan\AppData\Local\Temp\vmware_1374955748\vmwarevmcisockets64.msi failed

I had installed Vmware Player VMware-player-4.0.3-703057  and it was working fine . I had installed some VMware tools on the top of it and it has not given any problem ,

A week before i tried to uninstall it as i was thinking to install the latest version  , but from add/remove programs it gave me an error "The MSI Failed"

I tried all possible solutions for cleaning my system ( as per VM KB articles.)  and to get away with this error but failed to do so. I tried to upgrade with version   but failed to do so .

i am at the point right now that VMware-player-4.0.3-703057 is not there as i cleaned that from registry  but still it is sitting in add remove programs.

I am attaching few files which i got from %temp% and need an expert advise how to uninstall VMware-player-4.0.3-703057 and install VMware-player-5.0.2-1031769.

    Problem Accessing VMWare Tools

I have installed, re-installed, removed and re-installed VMWare Tools but the System Tray (Windows Vista on VM) shows the VM Tools icon and no actual 'tools'. The only options using double-clici or right-click are the "About" and "Exit". I've been trying to Shrink the Drive because it's at 73G and I only need ~30G. Any ideas why I can't access the Tools (all the suggestions presume it is working)?

I would like to know if there is any other paths where WMware keeps logs from the guest virtual machine,if you copy files from guest to host a new folder is created in c:\users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\vmware-USERNAME\, that contains the same files you have copied from the guest, any other place where WMware keeps that kind of logs?

I installed vmware Player on an Open Suse linux machine (32 bit), from the provided .bundle file. It ran fine, and I could load my virtual machine file just fine. Then, my machine had a random power outage. When it rebooted, I could no longer use my virtual machine, always getting the error:

"Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory.

Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded."

I look in /dev and sure enough, there is no vmmon. I see a lot of archived posts mentioning that you have to run the "vmware-config.pl script"....(specifically the following link:   http://blog.solutionperspectivemedia.co.uk/?p=6)

but I didn't get this. It sounds like maybe this was a part of an older (non-bundle) install?

What should I do? Is this a known issue, as that website suggests? Or did the random outage cause something? I'm pretty confused.

Minimize to Tray while under Unity...

    Hi!

Since some time ago, I have VMware player installed on my computer. I must say I love how the software works, indeed! And the Unity mode is a fun toy to play with! But, it has something that should be fixed, I think. I don't know how VMware workstation works under Unity, but I guess its the same as Player.

As you enter Unity mode, the VMware player window minimizes to the taskbar. This window is confusing sometimes, and its OBSTRUCTIVE. It doesn't have anymore the system itself, and it becomes practically useless.

I think this useless window should be removed, and the program minimized to the system tray (not the guest programs themselves, but the VMware window). I have this suggestion:

The VMware Player/Workstation window is minimized to system tray by default when entering Unity. It has the following options when right-clicked:

*Exit Unity Mode: Exits Unity, returning the guest OS to its windowed mode.

    (Separation)

*Show VMware on Taskbar: For those that don't mind the obstructive taskbar item and useless window.

*Help on using Unity: Shows the help for Unity Mode.

*VMWare on the Web: Opens the VMware website on the Host OS.

    (Separation)

*Guest System Tray Notifications: This section shows the Guest OS System tray icons.

    (Separation)

*Guest Programs: An application menu, besides the one that activates while hovering the Host Start menu.

*Check for updates: Checks for newer versions for VMWare Player/Workstation, as well as VMWare Tools.

*Machine Settings: Opens the Configuration window.

*Power Options: Options to reset/suspend/power off, and maybe an ACPI Power off.

*About VMWare: Shows the About window.

    *Kill Application: Exits VMware.

I hope you take this into account, since it would be quite useful.

    Redistributing VMware Player

    Hi,

Does anyone know of the correct path to obtaining a redistribution license for the VMware Player.

I have tried filling in the redistribution form at:

    Player Reseller Registration

But the lady that responded obviously wasnt familiar with the form I'd filled and simply advised me that I needed a Fusion Pro license to commerically use Player.  She did give me another email to try but I've had no response (in two weeks) from the person either.

I assume that VMware do offer a redistribution program for Player? Note that I am not interested in "reselling" Player, just distributing the free version to save my users having to download themselves.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    James

    Hi folks

I have been strugling to install VMWare Player for a while now, and finally found a workaround that did the trick for me. As I haven't seen this solution online, I thought I'd post it here to help others.

    20130628_VMWare_error_v2.png

    Facts

    VMWare Player version(s): VMware-player-5.0.1-894247.exe and VMware-player-5.0.2-1031769.exe

    Windows version: Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit SP1

    Encryption: Yes, Bitdefender active.

    What didn't work

I tested various suggestions listed here and in the KB:

    1. Redownload, control checksum, all was well.
    2. "Run as administrator", no change.
    3. Clear TEMP folder, no change.
    4. Turn off UAC settings, no change.

In summary I tested many of the solutions listed in these places with no luck:

VMware KB: Troubleshooting an MSI error during a VMware product or Tools installation

You receive an "error 1603: A fatal error occurred during installation" error message when you try to instal…

    Installation VMwareplayer impossible

VMWare Player fails to install on Win7 x64 Home Premium

    What did work

I noticed that the VMWare files were extracted to a TEMP folder before installation failed, but were removed when it failed (standard rollback procedure I guess). Did as follows:

    • Started the installation, made choices like folder etc., but did not proceed when I got to the "Continue" button that will start the installation (and generate the error)
    • Navigated to the "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp" folder, and copied the temp folder that was now present there (it is removed once you get the error message) to another folder (it is called
"vmware_XXXXXXXXXX", where the XXXXXXXXXX is a unique number each time it seems).
    • Clicked "Continue" and let the installation fail.
    • Went to the folder I had copied ("vmware_1372416285" in my case).
    • Double clicked "vmwareplayer_x64.msi", and it installed fine!

vmplayer 64bit refuses to rund 64bit VM Image under SLES11SP2 64bit.

    Hi!

i apologize if this is a duplicate, but i did some superficial googling and a scan through the forum and did not find

something relating to this (and will accept my humbling punishment if i overlooked something...).

I created a 64bit SLES11SP2 VMware Install with VMware Workstation 9.0.2, that runs ok under my VMplayer,

    VMWorkstation under Win7 64bit.

I downloaded the latest VMware-Player-5.0.2-1031769.x86_64 installed it and tried to run the Image under SLES11SP2 64bit.

i kept, also after a reboot, getting a message the the VMWare Player could not run the image, as my Host System (s11sp2)

would not support 64bit VMWare images.

Verified with uname, that my System Architecture was x86_64.

Of course i had installed the 32bit subsystem/libs of SUSE as i need it for the compatiblity of other SW on the host.

will the player stop looking for 64bit libs, when it finds 32bit libs?

I am slightly confused on this one, any help?

    regards

SUSE Linux installation error in VMWare Player

    $

Hi I am following a self-study workbook called "SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Fundamentals Workbook" as part of some job training for Novell I am doing at work. The book explicitely recommends using VMWare Player for the course, and gives step-by-step installation instructions for installing SUSE Linux. Unfortunately my install isn't going nearly as smoothly as the one portrayed in the book...

During installation I get a dozen or so download errors (which I can skip) and then a GRUB installation error (which I cannot skip). I will attach screen shots of some of the download errors, and the GRUB error below.

The book has me installing 2 SUSE VM's in host-only mode. From what I understand (which could be wrong, please bear with me) installing an OS in host-only mode only allows it to communicate with other VM's on the host machine. So they don't have internet access. So getting download errors would be normal - but why would Novell give you an install disc that would require downloads when they instruct you to configure your VM so that it will not have internet access? Is there some way I can set up the VMWare player to provide an internet connection for my VM's while they are in host-only mode? Further exercises in the book require the VM's to be set up this way.

However I am at a loss as to why I am getting a GRUB installation error. That shouldn't require a download. Is there a configuration setting I'm missing on this?

I have used this same disc in Oracle VirtualBox, and it installed without any problems, so I know the disc is good. However my employer wants me to become familiar with VMWare because we use VMWare servers here, so I need to get over this hurdle and get this VM working. I would appreciate any help anyone could provde. Thank you!
