I have an HP ML110 G3 with hyper-threading enabled

Running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit sp1 with XP mode installed.

I have Intel Pentium 4 3Gz 4Gb memory.

I have on several computers install first XP mode and then run the VMPlayer install.

The message that prevents and this I cannot figure out with hyper threading and Intel processor is:

'VM Player cannot be installed on your computer. Player requires features that are not present on your CPU'

If there is a method to complete the VMPlayer install please let me know !

Thanks

Bug in DOS-Function FindFirst / FindNext File

I have several DOS programs which run excellent under real Win XP, but under virtual XP they run faulty. These Programs find existing files, but report some of them twice (instead of once).

To find existing files they use DOS Intr 21H, AH=4E (FindFirst) and 4F (FindNext). Under virtual XP typically the first 7 or 8 files or directories are reported twice, the rest is then ok. On drive C: the bug does not exist, only on the other drives, which are mapped to the host network like.

An old Norton Utilities Tool shows exactly the same bug. Under real XP everything is perfect.

Please can anybody help?

Host is Win 7 SP1 Home Premium 64 bit

Guest ist Win XP SP3

VMware is 5.0.2

Logfile shows nothing at that time.

Using Guest with Host VPN

I've tried googling, but only came up with answers that were a few years old, so I'm going to ask and hope someone has an updated answered.

Host machine is running Win7x64, and is connected via Windows VPN to work network.

Host IP is 192.168.1.10 (Home network, static), when connected via VPN, it's got a 192.168.0.x address (work network, dhcp)

Guest is running CentOS 6.4 via bridged, as it needs to have it's own ip address of 192.168.0.230.

What I'm trying to do is run the Guest OS on the Host machine while the Host is VPN'd to the work network, and have machines on the work network able to connect to the guest machine.

Currently, when I run the Guest OS, it's unable to ping out, either by dns or straight ip address.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get it to connect and function over the Host's VPN connection?

Ubuntu 13.04 guest - launcher disappears forever?

0
0

Guest: Ubuntu 13.04, up-to-date software

VMware Player 5.0.2. build-1031769

Host Microsoft Windows 7

I normally configure Ubuntu to auto-hide the launcher (System settings -> Apeparance -> Behavior -> Auto-hide the Launcher).

When I do this under VMware Player, the launcher disappears "forever", that is:

* Normally if the screen is empty (no other windows), the launcher appears anyway, but under VMware Player, it does not.

* Normally I can make the launcher "reveal" by moving the mouse to the left side of the screen, but under VMware Player, it does not.

I can manually reveal the launcher by pressing the keyboard's Microsoft Windows key or by clicking on the "gear" in the upper right and using System settings (as above) to stop doing auto-hide.

How do I configure things so auto-hide works?  I do not care if this is a VMware or Ubuntu configuration.

I am using a tall narrow monitor, and leaving the launcher always visible steals enough horizontal real estate I can no longer do some things side-by-side, so "always visible" is a bad workaround.  I use a left-side mouse and the Microsoft Windows key is on the left on my keyboard, so using that is a cumbersome/slow workaround.

how to get around misfeatures

I love vmware player except for two, imho, major faults:

Firstly, the bar at the top does not truly obey "auto hide".  Almost every time I move my mouse to the top of the screen to click on a tab in my browser the !#!&!( bar drops down and hides some of the tabs I wish to use. I have to click the push pin to pin it down and then again to unpin it to get it to go away.  I know you can completely disable the menu bar in the config, but this is not what I wish to happen as sometimes I really do wish to use the bar.  I mearly want it to properly auto hide when I move my mouse away from the top of the screen(or no where near the bar at all).  This breaks very basic design principles and vmware should know better.

The second significant misfeature is that when I have multiple player machines running and I minimize one it will minimize the other(s).  This is EXACTLY the behavior I don't wish to happen.  What other application minimizes windows you didn't tell to minimize? Again, imho very poor design decision.

If it were not for these issues it would be a high recommendation of mine.  Is there any way to address these?

Thank you.

How to get cd-da audio in games running in win98 VM?

0

Hello

I have many old windows CD games from the 1995-1998 era. I clean installed a windows98 VM and installed VMtools and SB PCI sound drivers.

Games that completely use PCI music work fine, but any game that uses CD audio doesn't. In every instance I always get the game sound effects, but no music.

All the games that do this simply mention 'cd-da compatibility' as the sound requirements.

Does anyone know what is causing this problem, and how I can get the CD audio to work properly?

How do you tell if VMware Player 5 has installed its 64-bit version?

0

I've noticed on two recently built high-end Intel 64-bit Windows 8 Pro systems that the VMWARE folder is located in "Program Files (x86)" instead of "Program Files", which would suggest the 32-bit version got installed  instead of the 64-bit version. VMWARE's CPU Compatibility tool reports both systems are 64-bit ready.

The version is: VMware Player 5.0.2 | 7 MARCH 2013 | Build 1031769.

Am I misinterpreting the meaning of VMWARE's program files folder location?

no options to create anything in vmware player 2.2.5

hey folks

Now I must admit I didn't think vmware player let you make new VM's but after reading the user manual / google it appears it does...

Anyways so I downloaded the latest version 2.2.5 for my win7 / 64bit.. When I open it up I only have the option to open or delete vm's. Accordng to the manual I should have a file button that will let me create vm's.

I've had a look on google and I could see another person had a similar issue and they just reinstalled again.. which I have tried..

The only thing I can click on besides "open", "download" is vmware player at the top. Console, appliance and utility are greyed out if that means anything ?

The main reason for me using vmware player is I use virtualbox and it does not have the USB support I require.. so initally I exported my Virtualbox VM to an .OVA file however when I load it in vmware player it just sits at the splash screen.. after searching this seems to be a common problem... so I am happy to start again and create a new VM in Vmware player... which leads me to the question of how do I actually find the file button to do it =) ??

I have reinstalled / restarted as it requested.. i didn't encounter any errors during install so I am not sure what I should do ?

I don't want to install vmware workstation for reasons we don't need to go into

Any help would be great

thanks

Guest Machines Do Not Show in VMPlayer Library

My vmware player does not show gest machines in the library. My troubleshooting suggests its a permissions error on whereever the library data is stored.

When I try to open a guest machine  the player does not show the  guest in the inventory pane of the  player. However I can run  vmplayer /path/to/machine.vmx and the machine  will open execute  properly.

When  I run vmware player as root (or even a regular user) it works   correctly - so it seems clearly tied to my user account. I have tried rm  -rf ~/.vmware and rerunning the player but I  get the same behavior.

The problem happens with all guest machines - so it does not appear to be related to anything about a machine itself.

Does anyone know where vmware player stores the inventory data? Nothing in the  ~/.vmware directory seems to be related to this, but the library data must be persisted somewhere. Where is this file?

I'm running vmware player 3.1.3 build-324285 on Ubuntu Linux  2.6.31-22-generic-pae Ubuntu 9.10.

Thanks for any help.

USB device not connecting to VM

Hi,

I am trying to connect a USB stick a guest VM running Windows XP SP2. The USB stick is physically plugged into Windows 7 64-bit SP1 host machine. If I start the VM, then select the USB stick under "Removable Devices" and select "Connect (Disconnect from host)" it flashes the LED on the USB stick but eventually comes back with the message:

"The connection for the USB device "Silicon Motion USB DISK" was unsuccessful - Driver Error"

I have tried multiple USB sticks with the same result. I am using VMWare Player 5.0.2.

Does anybody have any ideas how I get these USB drives to connect to the guest VM?

Many Thanks, Paul.

How many VM's per host?

0

Hello all,

I'm very interested in VMPlayer for my needs, but just a couple quick questions.

- Are you limited to the number of VM's you can put on a host? Ideally, I would like to have 2-3 VM's on one physical machine, is that possible?

- Can you take the first created VM and clone it? Or did you need to reinstall for each one. Physical machine will be Windows 7, and all VM's will be Win7 also.

- In efforts to save time, can you backup the VM's on first creation, and use backup to rebuild at a later date? If for what ever reason I need to rebuild the VM, could I just remove old VM, and then replace with backup?

Thanks to all who can help. If I missed any items, or if unclear let me know.

Unable to install VMWare Player

I decided to dip my toe in the water and try VMWare Player but I seem to have run into a small snag from the get go. I downloaded the .bundle file (version 5.0.2) and when I try to run it I get the message that Windows can't open the file and prompts for me to find a program to open the file with.

I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit if it helps.

Thanks in advance folks.

How to Forward range of ports to a guest machine using NAT

0
0

Hi,

I do have a Little problem (so far i can think of it as small) - i'm using VMplayer ver 5.0.
Everything works just fine and as expected. i configure my NAT using "rundll32.exe vmnetui.dll VMNetUI_ShowStandalone  " command .
where i'm allowed to forward a port on HOST machine to my GUEST machine on one by one basis.

The problem:

The host intializing the traffic needs to communicate to the guest machine (hosted on the VMplayer) using a range of ports (randomly) 1024:65535 TCP
Is there a way to do this ?? or this is a feature that one can see in next releases .
It might help me in this situation if one can highlight where this configuration for NAT/port forwarding is saved (file or registery location)

I.e the Linux version of VMworkstation save this kind of information "/etc/vmware/vmnet8/nat/nat.conf" is there any file like this in windows.

Thanks in advance.

Mouse problems while gaming in Ubuntu...

Hi - My host system is Windows 8. My guest system is Ubuntu 13.04. I am using the latest version of VMware Player. Here's the situation: For normal computing purposes, everything is working perfectly in Ubuntu. The problem comes when I try to play a game. The mouse is hyper-sensitive, to the point that I can't do anything. Also, the perspective of the mouse is that it's always pointed at the floor. This happens in every game I've tried, so it's not the game itself. I know there was a similar post regarding mouse weirdness, but that was for VMware Workstation, not Player. I would greatly appreciate any insight or suggestions...

Latest Version of VMware Player for Workstation v6.5 VMs?

0
0

Hello.

For the last few years I have been using version 2.5.5 of VMware Player to run VMs created by Workstation v6.5.5.  In short, the VMs get deployed to a 32-bit Windows XP laptop and is only run with Player.

QUESTION:  What is the latest 32-bit version of VMware Player that it is compatible with deployment of v6.5.5-created VMs for my work environment?

I have been looking at the Player documentation online for all the various versions.  But I can't determine where the restrictions or compatibility factors are in solving my question.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
