Player Version 5, hosted under Vista, running WinXP SP3

I have a MySQL database running on the Vista Host that I want to connect to from the virtual OS using ODBC.

I can connect to a database running on an external server on the local network, but I cannot find a way to connect to the database on the host machine.

Any suggestions will be welcome.

Hi!

I've updated my vmware player 4 to version 5.
But now the pc speaker doesn't work when a program in my virtual machine try to use it.
The normal sound works.

The pc speaker in my host operating system is okay too.

My configuration:
Windows 7 enterprise x64 SP1
onboard sound Realtek HD Audio
Vmware Player 5.0 build 812388
virtual operating system: Windows XP Prof. SP3

(sorry my englisch isn't the best - i'm from Germany)

Multiple instances in Win7 64 host

I have troubles launching a virtual machine when another virtual machine is open.

The second player is slowing down my computer and makes it stuck from time to time, my processor is overloaded.

host: win7 64

guests: windows xp, server2003

All my virtual machines are 'busy' after upgrade in Linux

I upgraded from Slackware64 13.37 to current (pretty close to the new version 14.0 - kernel 3.2.29) and installed vmplayer 5.0.0 build-812388.

The installation of vmplayer was only possible with the '--ignore-errors' option, like the previous version.

When I try to play any of my .vmx images, I always get a 'The virtual machine is busy.' error.

In the windows client, vmplayer creates a 'lck' directory with a '.lck' lock file in there.

Removing this file doesn't solve the issue.  If I don't remove this file and try to run the virtual machine again, vmplayer exits.

When running from command line, I get this:

$ vmplayer Windows_7.vmx
Logging to /tmp/vmware-lupe/vmware-modconfig-24735.log
filename:       /lib/modules/3.2.29/misc/vmmon.ko

XP drag to Ubuntu guest not working

$

I am running VM Player 3.0 on a WinXP SP3 host with Ubuntu 11.10 guest.  Open VM tools are installed.  Most everything works (clipboard, folder sharing, etc.) except drag and drop to guest.  I can both drag/drop and copy/paste a file from guest to host.  I cannot drag and drop a file host to guest but I can copy/paste a file host to guest.

The message I get when attempting a D&D is "Error while copying. Error stating file '//tmp/VMwareDnD/<directory>/<filename>': No such file or directory"

However,  /tmp/VMwareDnD/<directory> does exist.

The only potentially related error message is in my .xsession-errors file:

"vmware-user: could not open /proc/fs/vmblock/dev"

The directory /proc/fs/vmblock contains /mountPoint and a 0 byte file named dev.

The host's .log file records this on a failed D&D:

Apr 20 11:10:25.732: vmx| [Vmdb_Set] Stale data for path: /vm/#_VMX/mks/grabState/new/ (current value '_UNSET_' -> new value '../req/#23e/') [104->103]
Apr 20 11:10:29.061: mks| Setting thread 40 stack size to 1048576.

My .vmx includes the line " isolation.tools.dnd.disable = "FALSE" "

Thanks for any help.

Update gfx drivers to WDDM 1.1?

$

Hello,

i am running vista x64 on my laptop and recently downloaded vmplayer and created a win7 x64 virtual machine. The os runs fine but i require WDDM 1.1 drivers for my gfx card. The physical device is an ATI mobility radeon hd 3650 and on vista it does not support WDDM 1.1 (that's why i'm trying win7). If i run dxdiag inside the virtual machine it tells me the driver is WDDM 1.0. Is there any way to update these drivers to WDDM 1.1? My goal is to run windows phone emulator from vs2010 express (which requires a WDDM 1.1 gfx card for certain kind of apps).

Thanks in advance,

DM

Blue SOD trying to install Player 5.0

$

I tried to install version 5.0.0-812388 today and got the Blue Screen of Death. I have Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. I've determined that it has something to do with the uninstall of the previous version. I did an uninstall manually and after it asks you to reboot I get to a login screen and the the speakers start to hum and then it goes to the BSOD. I've attached the screen below.

I had to use the latest restore point to get my computer up and running again. How can I get around this so I can load the new player?

Best regards,

Harold

VMWare cannot read shared files

I shared a path on my laptop (which is joined to a domain), and, having configured a bridged network connection, replicating physical connection state betweent the host and the guest, and, joining the virtual machine to the domain, I tried accessing the share, however, I am getting an error indicating network access issues.

Could these have been set by the domain administrator?

I'm running VMware Player V5.0 on a 64 bit Windows 7 platform.  Is it possible to boot from a USB drive for OS install?  When I power up the virtual machine it tries to boot from the network before I can set the keyboard focus to the virtual machine.

VMWare Player error when attempting to defragment virtual disk

$

I have a customer who has installed VMWare Player (latest version) on his Windows 7 laptop computer.  I assisted him in creating a Windows XP (32-bit) virtual machine that we imported from Windows XP Mode by using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone edition.  The import worked fine.  The virtual machine runs perfectly.

However, when I attempt to defragment the virtual disk by using the VMWare Player hard drive utility, I get an insufficient permission error and the procedure fails.  I have made sure that he has administrator/full control permissions on all of the files in the VMWare Virtual Machines folder which is located inside his documents folder.  I have tried running VMWare Player as administrator.  I can find no reason why he should be getting this error.  I have searched online for a solution and have found little information to shed any light on it and nothing that has worked.

Any assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

VMware Player 5 cannot install Tools on Win XP guest

$

I have VMware player 5.0.0 build-812388 running on Ubuntu 11.10 (kernel 3.0.0-26-generic). I use it to run a Windows XP Professional SP3 guest.

I used to have VMware tools installed on this guest, but after a recent upgrade (I'm not sure which one), I noticed that I was getting warning dialogs about my graphics configuration. I uninstalled VMware tools (via Add/Remove Programs) and reinstalled it (via the player's Virtual Machine > Install VMware Tools...), but it doesn't seem to be installed. There's no VMware Tools applet in the control panel, and no icon in the tray. I've tried various combinations of uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling, repairing, etc, but it's still missing.

How can I cleanly install VMware Tools on this virtual machine again?

VMWare Player license?

$

I am a developer working for a company and have been using VMWare Player 3 for a while.  I use it to spin up a development enviroment that I use to build applications and test them locally.  These applications are then moved to production servers where they are used by our customers.   I now wanted to upgrade to VMWare Player 5 and see there is now a VMWare Fusion license tied to it, which I do not own.  Do I need a license for VMWare Player 5 now even though I am not redistributing the player or using it to run applications in our production environment?

Thanks.
