Hi,

Recently i upgraded RAM on my personal laptop from 6 GB(4+2) to 8 GB(4+4). Till before every thing is working fine.. like i am able to create/open VM's.

After my RAM up gradation i am not able to Open any of my earlier VM's.

I proceed further and tried to create a new VM. This is also not working properly. I am trying to install Win Server 2008 R2 on new VM. I am getting below error.

Windows Server 2008 R2 Setup failure: Windows cannot install required files 0x80070570

I tired load the OS from iso image. Earlier i used the same to create new VM's of with similar OS. I tired with to create a VM with Windows 7 also. Here also same issue.

My Laptop OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Version of VM Player i am using is: VMware-player-6.0.1-1379776

Can some one help me on this issue..

Thanks

How to communicate with Guest VMs when Host is NOT on a network

$

Hi all,

I hope I am in the right place - or that I have not missed anything obvious related to my question!

We have 2 VM's (64bit OEL) on VMWare Player 6. Both are configured as bridged networked VMs and both have static IP addresses assigned to them from within the guest o/s.

The host is a Windows Server 2012 x64 machine. We are able to connect and ping both ways when the host is connected to our LAN, but as soon as we remove the LAN cable from our host, we cannot communicate between the VMs and the host.

My question in a nutshell: How do we demo software / services to our clients on a laptop (the host) with VMs running on an external hard drive connected to the laptop when it is not connected to any LAN? The two VMs are acting as DB and Web/App servers respectively.

I have tried the following:

1. Bridged

2. NAT

3. Host Only

None allow me to communicate between host and guest when the network cable is unplugged.

I apologise in advance if my question is completely simple - I just cannot find anything regarding hosts without a LAN connection communicating with VMs.

Greig

Windows 95 guest cannot communicate with host Windows 7

Folder sharing is not possible when the guest is Win 95, as I understand. So I have to rely on the network.

I run a Win 95 guest which I have created in VMware 7.1.1

The host is Windows 7

I can see the host computer in Windows Explorer on the guest. But whenever I try to access the host, I get a prompt to enter a network password.

I have tried the password I use to log on to the guest, to the host, password is rejected. I have generated a new password for mo home network on the host machine, but it won't accept this password either.

What is the password it is asking for?

I am stuck - cannot connect the guest to the host at all.

Emulate A CD-ROM Drive For Real Install On HDD

$

How do I use VMware Player to emulate a CD-ROM drive, mount a Win7 install ISO,

and do a real install to one of my HDD partitions?

The ISO is already set with an Autounattend.xml file,

so the other things that VMware Player tries to do are not needed.

This should be pretty simple, but do not see options for this.

And searching this forum didn’t help.

Thanks

Virtual Floppy Image just doesn't work in Windows 95 Guest

$

I have Windows 95 as the guest. Created by VMware Workstation 7.1.1

No matter what I do, I cannot connect to a virtual floppy (a disk file with FLP or IMG extension).

When I run the Win 95 guest in the Workstation, on Windows XP, it does not work. When I run the same guest in VMware Player on Windows 7, it does not work. I have tried ti create a new virtual floppy inside VMware - just does not work. I do not get any error messages from VMware itself. But Windows 95 says there is no floppy in the floppy drive.

The funny thing is - it worked when I initially created thew Win95 image 5 years ago.

Even a physical, real Floppy drive, does not work.

So I assume there is "something" that has happened with the guest OS.

Any suggestions? Is it a pure Win 95 error?

Many thanks in advance for any advice here.

My situation:

Novice Developer using a Windows 7 laptop with Ubuntu Server on VMWare Player.

Need to progress client and server side development on the laptop while at home and away (travelling, sometimes without wireless/internet connection)

I've tried NAT/Bridged/Host-only and can't seem to find an approach that works offline..

More details below..

My question

How to set up network to use VMWare player for development while at home/away (inc offline without internet connection)?

Thanks again

Tony

Other details

My laptop runs Win7, I use Google Chrome, Putty, WinSCP on the client side

My hardware router has an IP of 192.168.0.1

My VMware - Ubuntu Server- is set up to use DHCP

Online- I mean wireless connection to router and internet

Offline- I mean no wireless connection/no internet

Bridged Networking

Works ok online. Does not work offline

When online, I get IP 192.168.0.7 from ifconfig in the vmware.. I can ping the router from the VM and ping the ubuntu server from the Win7 command line

When offline... Ping from VM to router and Ping from Win7 to VM fail.

NAT networking

Does not work online or offline

When "online" I get IP 192.168.91.128 from ifconfig in the VMware , I can ping the hardware router ok from the VM. When I ping the ubuntu server from Win 7 cmd line I get Request Timed Out

When offline I get the same IP 192.168.91.128 from ifconfig in the VM. I cant ping the hardware router from the VM.. Destination Host Unreachable. When I ping the ubuntu server from Win 7 cmd line I get Destination Host Unreachable

Host-Only

does not work for me either online of offline..

While online ie I can get IP address.. 192 168 110 128 but VM cant ping router.. Network Unreachable. Win7 cant ping server.. Request Timed Out

While offline I get the same IP address 192 168 110 128 , but VM cant ping router Network Unreachable. Win7 cant ping server.. Destination Host Unreachable

Debian Jessie / VMware-Player-6.0.1 / Says installed but won't launch

I installed VMware-Player-6.0.1-1379776.x86_64.bundle on my Debian Jeesie  64-bit OS.

It says "Installation was successful", but when checking the install log it says

"WARNING **: Could not open X display", and when entering "vmplayer" as user

I get "Loop on signal 11 -- pid 10168 at 0x7ff677ae6fe8".

The player will not launch from the desktop, or command line.

   I have uninstalled w/

   go to: /usr/sbin

   vmware-installer -u vmware-player 6.0.1-1379776

....and re-installed bundle package numerous times. Still no luck.

I have some important programs in my previously working VMware which

worked in Debian Wheezy OS prior to doing a apt-get dist-upgrade due to

a power flicker that messed up Wheezy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've been wrangling this problem

for around two weeks.

Cannot access Ethernet & SCSI controlers on Windows 8.1

$

Hi,

I am new to VMware so there might be a simple solution to this problem - here are the specifics.

I bought a new laptop (Toshiba Satellite C70 A Series 8GB RAM running Windows 8.1 - 64 bit)

I downloaded Player and created my first machine with 32 bit XP Pro - so far so good, accessed the internet with no problems.

Then I put my upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) - it finished but no Internet Connection!

I look at the Device Drivers and see Ethernet and SCSI Controls not working - outside of Player everything is fine.

Been working on this for a few days - on suggestion I have seen on the post is to uninstall player and re-install it - could that be the answer or am I looking at another problem?

Thanks

Chris

PS - Also tried changing back and forth between NAT and Bridge to no avail.

How do I get my vm to power up. Thankd

Windows 8.1 guest OS upgrade caused major network slow-down for vmnet1, vmnet8

$

I'm troubleshooting a network slow-down which occurred after upgrading the guest OS from Windows 8.0 to 8.1. VM host is running Linux.

The problem occurs only when communicating between host and guest using NAT interface (vmnet8) or "host-only" interface (vmnet1). I also have a bridged adapter configured and it is using an external LAN. This one is working fine.

Problem is observable by sending approx. > 20k data via TCP connection. For instance, sending random data to the guest machine via netcat:

  dd if=/dev/urandom bs=$bufsize count=$((totsize / bufsize)) | nc -v <guest ip> 12345

and having netcat server in the windows side (using cygwin here)

  nc -v4lk 12345 > /dev/null

Reproducability depends somewhat how large buffer we are sending. Exact logic is beyond me but with bufsize=8000 and totsize=100000 I can hit the problem most of the time. I run the command in a loop, and while I may get a few 80MB/s transfers every now and then, I can suddenly get a few 10-100kB/s.

Transferring a 100kB file can take over 10 seconds. I first noticed the problem when accessing Windows file share.

The data is not corrupted in the transfer.

From TCP dumps one can see 3 to 10 second pauses between every 7 or so packets.  It seems the host is quickly sending two bursts, first is immediately acknowledged by the guest while the second is received with a delay.

Attached are matching dumps from both sides. I see no reason for the delays.

Any pointers?

I have tried disabling RSS (receiver side scaling) for the guest machine. No effect.

trouble enabling both NAT and bridged networking

$

Host: Win 7

Guest: Ubuntu

I am a web developer and my Ubuntu VM serves as a webserver.  I am on a laptop that I take between home and work and a few other places, so my IP changes all the time as I roam.  I need a static IP so I can easily access the resources via Samba on the Ubuntu VM... but I also need an IP I can give out to people from time to time so they can take a look at code I've been working on, and so that I can test web apps I'm building from other devices, such as my phone.  In order to accomplish this, I have set up two network adapters, one of them is set to NAT (which gives me a static IP) and the other set to Bridged (to give me an IP I can share with other people that they can use to view/test things).  I was hoping that I could have both at the same time; however, if I have both enabled simultaneously, only the NAT one works.  In Ubuntu, ifconfig -a shows both network devices, but only the NAT device gets an IP.  If I disable the NAT device, the Bridged device can get an IP.

Is there some way I can get both Bridged and NAT devices working correctly at the same time?

Thanks.

Using a Recovery Disc to install on VMWare Player

$

I apologize if I'm posting this to the wrong place, but I'm finding things for doing this in VirtualBox, but I want to know if it is possible to do in VMWare. When I bought this laptop, it had Windows on it and I made a recovery disc which is locked to my laptop's hardware, then installed crunchbang linux on it and VMWare Player under it. I ran dmidecode to get my hardware list. Now, my question is, is there a way to edit the VMWare's hardware to emulate my laptop's hardware so I can install off my recovery disc? Otherwise I'll be forced to go buy Windows at the local store.

Direct link to ova file:

First vmware player complains that:

The import failed because   did not pass OVF specification conformance or virtual hardware compliance checks.

Click Retry to relax OVF specification and virtual hardware compliance checks and try the import again, or click Cancel to cancel the import. If you retry the import, you might not be able to use the virtual machine in VMware Player.

Then if I click retry, the player crashes.

[O-O-P-S !] VMware-Player-6.0.1-1379776.x86_64.bundle / Missing Critical Component ?

Hi again vmwarers...in trying to wrangle a complete installation of  VMware-Player-6.0.1-1379776.x86_64.bundle on my Debian/Jeesie system. I seem to have lost a critical piece !

   Installer gives message:

         Extracting VMware Installer...done.

   Installer log says:

[2014-01-22 19:19:12,801] Opening database file /etc/vmware-installer/database

I believe the program should be in "/etc/vmware-installer, or vmware-tools"

I'm guessing it's called "apploader" , but mine has disappeared ? Running the bundle multiple times does not provide a new one ?

Does anyone have any suggestions ? Maybe someone could locate an equivalent file/app in their setup,

and copy/paste it in a reply. I could then plug it in here.

   It's possible I'm actually missing a sub-directory.

The directories that I do have:

/etc/vmware
/etc/vmware-installer
/etc/vmware-tools
/etc/vmware-vix
/etc/init.d/vmware
/etc/init.d/vmware-USBArbitrator
/etc/modprobe.d/vmware-fuse.conf

So far have tried:

(1) tried recovering files with ext4magic

(2) tried install of earlier 503 version

(3) tried fresh install of 601 version

Still says missing App Control

Seems like if it's missing the install should replace anything missing ?

System configuration software in VMware Player Plus

$

Hi

We are going to deploy VMware Player Plus soon.

In advance, we would like to know about system configuration software in VMware Player Plus mentioned in FAQ page as below.

>VMware Player Plus better supports mass deployments to thousands of users including installation options and custom configuration settings to run unattended installs using system configuration software and hide unwanted features.

Is system configuration software included in VMware Player Plus or is it a third party tool or something ?

What can it do specifically ?

We especially want to know what features can be hidden.

Can it hide control bar perfectly on the full screen mode ?

Thanks !

VMware and Joystick

Greetings,

I run a Win7 64Bit client on a Win7, 64Bit host.

I also have a Joystick attached to the USB Port. The Joystick is operational in the host, however not in the guest.

This is with VMware 6.0.1 and 3.1.6.

Is there *any* VMware product which allows the operation of a joystick in the guest?
