How to send Ctrl-RightClick to guest in VMWare Player?

$

I am running VMWare Player 6 on CentOS 6.5. I created a Ubuntu 12.04 guest and installed gnome-fallback-session so that the guest is running gnome 3 rather than unity (which looks like a smart phone). In order to add and item to the gnome panel I must use Alt-RightClick on the panel. This works on physical Ubuntu 12.04/gnome machines. It does not work on the virtual machine. I get NO response to Alt-RightClick.

I have found various short cuts to send VMWare "reserved" key combinations to a guest but nothing about sending a keyboard and mouse combination. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

TIA,

Ken

First vmware player complains that:

The import failed because   did not pass OVF specification conformance or virtual hardware compliance checks.

Click Retry to relax OVF specification and virtual hardware compliance checks and try the import again, or click Cancel to cancel the import. If you retry the import, you might not be able to use the virtual machine in VMware Player.

Then if I click retry, the player crashes.

[O-O-P-S !] VMware-Player-6.0.1-1379776.x86_64.bundle / Missing Critical Component ?

Hi again vmwarers...in trying to wrangle a complete installation of  VMware-Player-6.0.1-1379776.x86_64.bundle on my Debian/Jeesie system. I seem to have lost a critical piece !

   Installer gives message:

   Installer log says:

[2014-01-22 19:19:12,801] Opening database file /etc/vmware-installer/database

I believe the program should be in "/etc/vmware-installer, or vmware-tools"

I'm guessing it's called "apploader" , but mine has disappeared ? Running the bundle multiple times does not provide a new one ?

Does anyone have any suggestions ? Maybe someone could locate an equivalent file/app in their setup,

and copy/paste it in a reply. I could then plug it in here.

   It's possible I'm actually missing a sub-directory.

The directories that I do have:

/etc/vmware
/etc/vmware-installer
/etc/vmware-tools
/etc/vmware-vix
/etc/init.d/vmware
/etc/init.d/vmware-USBArbitrator
/etc/modprobe.d/vmware-fuse.conf

So far have tried:

(1) tried recovering files with ext4magic

(2) tried install of earlier 503 version

(3) tried fresh install of 601 version

Still says missing App Control

Seems like if it's missing the install should replace anything missing ?

System configuration software in VMware Player Plus

$

Hi

We are going to deploy VMware Player Plus soon.

In advance, we would like to know about system configuration software in VMware Player Plus mentioned in FAQ page as below.

>VMware Player Plus better supports mass deployments to thousands of users including installation options and custom configuration settings to run unattended installs using system configuration software and hide unwanted features.

Is system configuration software included in VMware Player Plus or is it a third party tool or something ?

What can it do specifically ?

We especially want to know what features can be hidden.

Can it hide control bar perfectly on the full screen mode ?

Thanks !

How to use VM Player and Windows XP on a Windows 8.1 laptop? Problem with 16 bit software.

I am trying to install a 16 bit piece of software (Quicken Financial Planner) using vm player and windows xp.  I have installed this software with vm player and windows xp on two of my Windows 7 machines without any problem.  Now I am trying to do the same thing on a Gateway laptop with Windows 8.1.  I loaded vm player just fine.  And loaded Windows XP with all the updates just fine.  But when I try loading the Quicken software (using a usb floppy drive---the software is only on a floppy), Windows xp says that that I can't run a 16 bit program.  I have tried Virtual Box doing the same thing with the same result.  Is there something different about Windows 8.1 and VM Player+WindowsXP that is different from the same configuration with Windows 7?  I could really use some help.  I already have about 14 hours invested in this without any results.  Thanks for any help in advance.

How to avoid "Num lock ON/OFF" splash when dragging mouse in/out?

I started a Linux VM as guestOS in VmWare Player in Win 7 hostOS.

Whenever I drag now the mouse from outside the VmWare windows into the guestOS VM Window (or outwards to the opposite direction)

a visual indicator appears in the mid of the VmWare window telling me

Caps Lock ON

or

Caps Lock OFF

This is annoying.

How can I turn of this notification forever and for all guestOS VMs ?

Laggy (bad performing) Linux-VMs

$

Hey there,

I (still) have a problem with bad performing and unusable lagging VMs with VMware Player (6.0.1 build-1379776). Guest-OS is Linux Mint 14 Mate x86.The Host (Win7 x64) gets a continius high CPU-usage on one core (the VM has 1 vCPU) even when the Guest-OS is completly idle. Of course the newest vmware-tools are installed (but makes no difference to this problem, even if not installed at all).

Funny/Weird fact: After the Host went to Sleep/Standby/Energy-Saving-Mode (what ever its called in the english Windows) and wakes up again, CPU-Usage goes down to nearly 0 and the VMs performance is normal (even good). No more (real) Lags. What the ...?

I hope somebody can help pin down a solution for this annoying problem!?

Kind regards!

VMware and Joystick

Greetings,

I run a Win7 64Bit client on a Win7, 64Bit host.

I also have a Joystick attached to the USB Port. The Joystick is operational in the host, however not in the guest.

This is with VMware 6.0.1 and 3.1.6.

Is there *any* VMware product which allows the operation of a joystick in the guest?

VMPlayer 6 Time And Date Independent Of Host?

Hello folks.  Is it in any way possible to have the VMWare Player 6.0 to keep it's own Time Zone, Date and Time, indipendent of the host's?

That is, if the host machine is 01:00pm, 10-09-2013, can I have the VMWare Player have a date in advance or past (like 6:15am, 04-10-2010, and to keep its date rebooting VMWare Player.  Am just curious.

Thanks.

VM can't connect to host using WiFi.

Im running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my host machine with the same running on my VM version 6.0.0 build 1295980. Both the Host and VM are are the same network, on the same homegroup, and can see each other in Network section of Windows.

With my Asus USB-AC53 wireless adapter connected to the host, the host can access the shared folders on the VM and other computers on the network. The VM can access other computer's files on the network except for the Host's.

With my Host hardwired to my router, the VM can access all computer's files, including the host.

How can I setup my VM so that when the Host is using Wifi, The VM can access the Host's files?

Printing issues with xp vm running on a windows 7 physical pc

Hi,

Running windows xp in player on a windows 7 box. Both need to print to a single printer....which works fine. But when switching from vm to host or the other way it always messes with the default printer setting and just setting it back to the desired printer doesn't work unless the printer is powered off before hand. It is attached to a multifuction printer so it automatically installs all of the fax and scan drivers etc and will reset the default to one of those whenever I switch where I am printing from.

Thanks

WHEA-Logger warnings only with VMWare Player

$

Since building my new Haswell 7x64 system on 6/26, I've found several warnings like this one in my Event Viewer log, and I've determined they coincide exactly with the times I ran VMs for Windows 8.1 and 7:

*****

Log Name:      System

Source:        Microsoft-Windows-WHEA-Logger

Date:          7/18/2013 1:31:03 PM

Event ID:      19

Task Category: None

Level:         Warning

Keywords:

User:          LOCAL SERVICE

Computer:      ---

Description:

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core

Error Source: Corrected Machine Check

Error Type: Internal parity error

Processor ID: 2

*****

The computer has been in heavy use 16 hours a day since I built it on 6/26. However, these warnings have been generated only during the times I was running VMs for Windows 8.1 and 7, and those times have been infrequent and of short duration, about a half dozen runs lasting five minutes or less each. This is documented conclusively by the VMWare logfiles, for the warning times are sandwiched between the VM start and stop times that appear in the logs. There were two such warnings when I discovered the issue on 7/14. While I can't consistently repro it, I managed to get two new warnings out of several attempts within the first few minutes of starting the VMs. I have no idea what aspect of using the VMs triggers it. I run the VMs in windows and never mess with the Unity mode. They are vanilla installs, new copies of VMs I built on my i5 750 system and archived for easy restoration, and basically I've just been verifying they work.

My system is as follows, and I am not now overclocking, nor have I ever overclocked anything:

i5 4670 and Hyper 212 Evo

Asus Gryphon Z87, BIOS 1007 and now 1206

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8 GB 1.35v DDR3-1600 DIMMs x 2, 16 GB total

Intel 4600 graphics -> monitor

Nvidia GT430 -> TV

Seasonic X650 PSU

Samsung 830 SSD boot drive, two 2 TB WD Green drives, all TrueCrypted. The VMs are on the SSD.

Windows 7 x64 w/ SP1, fully patched, installed 6/26

VMWare Player 5.0.2 build-1031769

I've observed Processor ID values of 0, 2, 4, and 6, which I don't understand as the CPU is quad-core with no hyperthreading.

The system is stable on Prime95, Aida64, and Intel Linpack, plus MemTest86+ 5.0 RC1. The stress tests do not provoke the warning, nor do they cause excessively high temps. CPU-intensive multitasking that uses all four cores such as transcoding video with Handbrake while doing network file copies or downloading from the Internet while watching video or browsing the web does not cause the warnings. The only thing that causes the warnings is running a VM in VMWare Player, and it tends to happen within the first few minutes, when CPU usage is nil.

I've had no BSODs or abnormal behavior of any kind; this new system has been great. That said, these warnings are still troubling. From googling, I've learned that overclockers commonly observe WHEA-Logger warnings when stressing the system under extreme overclocking, and they say the solution is usually more vCore. However, I'm not overclocking, and I don't think the 4670 is capable of it anyway. Besides, the warnings occur when my system is basically idle and only when running a VM in VMWare Player. They don't occur at any other times.

Has anyone heard of a problem like this with VMWare Player? Are there any Haswell users who don't observe this problem with VMWare Player?

VMWare Player - No internet access. Win 7 host, XP VM

Hi,

I have a Windows XP Pro VM running on WMware Player, I can't get it to connect to the internet. When diagnosing the issue for the network adapter on the Win 7 host machine, the following error message appeared:

dhcp is not enabled for vmware network adapter vmnet1

and

dhcp is not enabled for vmware network adapter vmnet8

This is no longer appearing, On the host machine, network and sharing center shows my normal network, and an unidentified public network with no internet access - listing both vmnet1 and vmnet8 adapters.

Thanks for any help.

Keyboard Not Working after VMWare Conversion

Hello,

I'm trying to run a VMware Conversion of an old laptop as a backup. I've run a VMware conversion and converted it to a vm 9 image file.

When it gets opened in VMware Player everything works except for the keyboard inputs. The only way I can type on the screen is using either the on screen keyboard or connecting in with TeamViewer.

Looking in Device Manager shows that the following error.

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Has anyone come across this before and know if a solution?

Thanks

VMware 6 - Floppy rattles way too frequently in Windows XP guest

$

I have Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) as my host operating system with VMware Player 6.0.1, and I have Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and Windows ME as my guest operating systems.

The problem I have right now is that, whenever I have my WinXP guest activated, my floppy drive (yes, I still use my floppy for my ancient video games) rattles just about every 30 seconds to a minute.  Either something in my guest OS keeps checking my floppy way too frequently, or VMware itself is continually checking the floppy.

This incident does not happen in my WinME guest.  With the exception of disabling my floppy, how do I stop the guest, or VMware, from repeatedly accessing the floppy even when there's nothing in it?

Ubuntu error when running as root

When I run any vmrun command from the CLI in an Ubuntu server, I get the following error:

Home directory not accessible: Permission denied

But the command will go ahead and run anyway.

Example:

root@media:/var/log# vmrun -T player list

Home directory not accessible: Permission denied

Total running VMs: 1

/root/vmware/lucid/lucid.vmx

root@media:/var/log#

I cannot figure this out. Any help would be appreciated.
