Bridged Connection weird IP release in the NAT router

$

Hi, I use Vmware Player 6.0.2 to run linux on my linux machine with no vmware tools. Both linuxes are Slackware 14.1. In my guest system I have a web-server with bridged connection. Both, host and guest, appear with same MAC address and different IPs in my NAT router (self assigned). After some amount of time ( ~16 hours last time) the IP of the guest 'disappears' from the router and my web-server becomes unreachable. Going to the guest and executing wget or opening a page with the browser returns the NAT IP for the guest on the router.

Is it because of some kind of inactivity on my guest slackware?

Or is it specific to vmware bridged connection?

Thanks!

Help!!

Windows 7 guests lock up / freeze randomly

I'm having bad luck with Windows 7 64-bit VMs running on HP Z400 and Z600 workstations.  Running VMware Player 6.0.1 build-1379776.  The guest randomly freezes up and the only thing I can do is force a power off.  The problem appears only to occur on the Z400 and Z600's.  I run the same setup on an HP Elitebook 8440p with no problems.  I've had similar problems with Workstation.

Where can I look to troubleshoot?

VMware player won't open my virtual machine

Every time I try to open my virtual machine, this error pops up

So, glad that VM Player no longer screws up API calls to wininetdll

I admit, it was a useful distraction in not blaming microsoft for incompetent coding (at least for a while).

But, now, if an update to VM Player is performed, we have to re-register Windows??????????

WTF?

This is not to be tolerated.

As a developer, and one who has praised VM, I am now coming up short.

Last time it was the API issues, now, it's re-reg Windows.  As we know, microsoft only allow so many.

I went out on a limb to advocate VMWare for MY CLIENTS.

Now, it is a stone around my neck.

Bullshit like this ---- re-authorizing Windows  at every upgrade to VMPlayer  --- IS NOT ACCEPTIBLE!

Besides Windows, any other software that ties its licencing to CPU, HDD, BIOS etc. will now fail !!!!!!!

This is exceptionally LAME, VM People!

Not to mention 'support' means calling some guy in India who thinks his job description is to hang up anytime he don't know the answer or gets pissed when you point out that he asked the same damn question 5 times over.

Way to go VMWARE!

I've recommended your product for some time, and now you make me look like a prat to my clients.

You behave more like microsoft or apple at every turn.

I still love the product, I'll still reccommend it, but for crying out loud, get rid of the dicks and children that masquerade as programmers.  Or, at least employ coders with real world experience.

PLEASE!

Sorry if the question is stupid but I'm new user of VMware!

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

Hello,

One of our users wants to run VMware player on a virtualized Windows 2012 server running on ESXi5.5

Is that supported?

They are getting the Intel VT is disabled error when trying to launch a 64bit machine in VMware player.

Printer Driver in XP client inherited from Linux Host misbehaves

$

The (network) printer is a Samsung colour laser printer.

It prints well under both the Linux host and the XP client ...... except!

Except that whenever I power up the client it defaults to the inherited printer driver.

Unfortunately, this causes it to miss the bottom 12-13 cm of the foot of every page.

The Windows specific driver doesn't do this. To use it I have fix it as the default

every time that I power up.

Using the host's driver, in the 'Advanced' printer tab I have tried scaling the page to

as little as 80% but I can see no discernible difference in the result sheet whatsoever.

Is it an incurable problem?

Hi,

I've been running my old WinXP PC converted with p2v in VMware Player for a couple of years now without a problem, but recently (I guess after the Player upgrade to 6.0.1) it will not boot anymore giving the mentioned BSOD message (check the attached picture). No explanation is given about the possible faulty driver or something similar. It boots normally to safe mode and there I've tried to disable anything suspicious and all possible unnecessary services and drivers, but again as soon as I try to boot normally blue screen appears. Tried googleing a lot but there is nowhere mention of such BSOD message without any clue. Any suggestions, at least where else to look for possible cause?

thanks,

Using Fusion Pro License to activate Win7 install of VMWare Player

According to http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion-professional/compare.html, Fusion Pro includes a license for using VMWare Player Plus. However, when trying to activate Player Plus (Player -> Help -> Enter License Key...) and entering the key, nothing happens. (The warning at the bottom of the screen that my evaluation license will expire in N days persists). Any help thrown my way is appreciated.

Best,

Routing Question from External to VM OS

$

Was hoping someone here could help with my setup and how I can route appropiately.  My setup is as such:

I have a Windows 7 Laptop running Ubuntu in a VMPlayer.  The Windows laptop is connected wirelessly to an access point which also has a development box (Beaglebone Black) running Ubuntu connected to it.  Thus my network appears like this:

BBB (Ubuntu) = 192.168.0.133

Wireless Accesspoint = 192.168.0.1

Laptop (Windows 7) = 192.168.0.122

VMnetwork Adapter vmnet8 (Windows 7) = 192.168.232.1

VM Player (Ubuntu) = 192.168.232.128

Now I can reach the BBB from my VMPlayer but cannot get from the BBB to the VMPlayer.  I know that I must add some route somehow but not sure how to accomplish this.  I'm gotten a work around by setting the Network adapter in the VMPlayer to Bridged rather than NAT.  but I assume that I should be able to do this as well the other way.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thanks

Boot from USB drive in VMWare Player?

I'm running VMware Player V5.0 on a 64 bit Windows 7 platform.  Is it possible to boot from a USB drive for OS install?  When I power up the virtual machine it tries to boot from the network before I can set the keyboard focus to the virtual machine.

Please help me to recreate a *VMX* from the the attached Log files.

Hi all was using VMPlayer and had a great deal of success with a virtual Windows 7 installation. Recently I ran out of disk space and before I got a chance to clean up and extend the hard disk capacity, the virtual image became corrupt. The message referred to the following:

Windows 7.vmx* is not a valid virtual machine configuration file.

I noticed in one of the previous posts that one of the respondants (to this same sort of problem) was able to recreate a *.VMX* file from some log files. I only have the attached log files and ask that someone assist me by making a clean *.VMX* file with the attached log files for me to try. I need the contents of the VM image really badly.

Please assist me with this request.

Thank you in advance.

Will Updating, Requiring Uninstalling, Make Me Reinstall Programs?

$

My VMware Player alerted me to update for security purposes, etc. In the process, I closed my VMware Player which has acrobat, pagemaker, quickbooks installed on it.

The setup wizard for VMware Player says I must uninstall v 6.0.1 to proceed. If I do that, will I have to reinstall acrobat, pagemaker, quickbooks?

If yes, and if I'm not accessing the Internet from the VMware Player (XP, acrobat, pagemaker, quickbooks), is it necessary to update if the system is working fine? I sooooooo... don't want to have to do this.

Thanks,

Chamlin

Is there a way to upgrade DDI Version 9Ex to Version 10? Thanks

Greetings,

My company uses VMWare Player to have access to virtual images. We would like to try a mapping application that requires DDI Version 10. Running DirectX diagnostics tool (please see attaches) reveals that VM supports 9 only. Could you please let me know if there is anything that can be done to upgrade? If not, is there a timeframe when the issue is going to be addressed? Thanks

USB 3.0 support in W7 x64 guest under W7 x64 host.

I am afraid this question has been answered, but I have done many searches with no luck.  It looks like USB 3.0 support works under certain Linux guests but I can find no definitive answers about W7 guest.  I changed the Settings to USB 3.0 (got message about needing driver).  When it did not see the USB stick I plugged in, I opened the Device Manager (guest) and saw a yellow bang on Other devices, "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller".  There is no driver.  I tried several ideas but none worked.  Details showed the Vendor ID as 15AD (VMware) and the Device ID shows 0778 (Sabrent USB-to-Parallel Adapter).  The device ID does not make much sense to me.  Is there a driver available to satisfy W7 guest?  Thanks and enjoy, John.

EDIT:  It looks like my signature (containing VMware version information) is no longer shown in the post: Player, 6.0.1 build-1379776

VMWare Workstation 10 refuses to Sync time with Host OS

I am having problems getting my Win 8.1 VM Guest to sync with the Win 8.1 Host machine. I have 'Sync' switched on, but every time I start the VM the time is wrong (even from suspend).  If I go in and manually update the time son the guest, it automatically changes back to what seems to be a random time, either in the future or in the past. This morning, for example, now at 1205 on 25th May here in NZ, it is reporting 0706 on 26th May.

By the way, I have the latest VMWare tools installed, have tried uninstalling and reinstalling VMWare Tools, but it has no effect.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Hey all.

Not sure if this it the correct area for this discussion but could find non better.

I am trying to run vmware payer on an Linux Mint host machine. (Based on Ubuntu 13.10. Saucy).

When I create a new machine it complains about no 3d graphics and accelerator available.

"Hardware graphics acceleration is not available"

"No 3D support is available from the host"

I have the latest open source Intel drivers for my on-board graphics (sys board H87M-HD3 with Intel graphics), and Mesa installed for the open-gl, by player does not seem to recognise this. Has anyone come across and resolved this sort of problem.

Thanks

Rob.
