VMWare Player Plus 6 (Failure to print more than one page

VM Product:                VMware Player Plus 6

Printer:                        Dell 1350CNW (Using Ethernet)

Host OS:                    Ubuntu 13.10

Guest OS:                   Windows 2000 Professional

Printer Driver:               TPVM (Thin Print Port for VMWare

Configured virtualised system for a customer and everything works fine apart from the fact that printing from the VM to the printer only ever prints a single page.

If I print from Ubuntu printing works fine for multiple pages.

Has anyone encountered this problem?

Is there a fix?

Many Thanks in Advance for any help or support received.

Installing SideWinder FFB2 in Win98 on VMWare Issues

Hi folks,

I need help with this issue, I've been googling for days and can't seem to find anything relating to it (as seems to be the case with a lot of win98 issues). going a bit crazy.

I am running Windows 98SE under VMWare Player and have my joystick plugged into a USB 3.0 plug (set as 2.0).

When I run the Sidewinder install CD, during the step where it asks me to plug the joystick into a USB I get an error message: "Setup is unable to detect whether the controller is connected"

I follow the setup instructions, install the win98 drivers, everything but I always get the message and then It also doesn't appear in Gaming Options in the Controllers tab.

It does appear in Device Manager under Sound, video and Game Controllers but with a Yellow bang. I've tried updating drivers but it tells me I have the most appropriate ones.

I've tried manually adding the joystick in Gaming Options and I get the message that it's 'finished installing the software necessary to support the new hardware" but it still doesn't show in the list.

I'm at a loss.

Any ideas?

I can configurate the new VM, but in the Windows start process, it shows a blue screen with the "STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF8A87528,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)" error.

Windows Server 2012 and VMWare Player problems.

Hi,

I have a physical machine running Windows Server 2012 (64 bit).

I used VMware Converter 5.5.2 (the latest version afaik) to make a p2v of the machine.

Everything worked without problems.

Then, when I try to play the resulted virtual machine using VMWare Player 6.0.3, (almost) nothing happens: a black screen appears for some seconds and then the player returns to the virtual machines selection screen. Only a little box appears in the low-right corner of the player windows: it says that "no 3D support is available from the host" (if I'm not wrong, a standard message that always appears when a virtual machine runs for the fist time).

My question:

is there any limitation running a 2012 Server virtualized machine on VMWare Player?

Do I have to buy a license of the Plus version?

If not, what's the problem?

I tried to run a virtualized Windows Server 2003 (32bit) using the same tools on the same host and everything works fine.

The source machine is a Xeon X3430, 12Gb RAM, 2 partitions of 50Gb and 786Gb.

I tweaked the resulting vmx to set 8Gb of RAM and disconnecting all the ethernet interfaces.

The host machine is a Core i3-3220, 16Gb RAM and 4Tb disk space running Windows 7 64-bit.

Thanks in advance.

Installation VMwareplayer impossible

Hello everyone,

I uninstalled vmwareplayer some days ago. Last week, I tried to install vmwareplayer 5.0.2 but the installation failed with this message:

"The MSI C:\users\A\Appdata\local\temp\vmwareplayer_x64.msi failed".

I tried to install an older version of vmware player and workstation but the problem still the same.

I runed as a local administrator and have deleted the %TEMP% directory and CCleaner before each test.

My MSIEXEC version is 5.0.7601.17514

In the vmsetup.20130603204822.log I can see:

It looks like the .msi has a problem.

Can someone help me to solve this problem ?

Why does my PC slow down to a crawl when VMware Player is suspending to .vmem file?

$

0

My PC becomes almost unusable when VMware Player is writing its save-state to .vmem file. VMware Player is delegating the task to C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe process. When looking in Task Manager, I see that CPU usage is just 5..10% and memory usage is ~40%, which is normal for me. When I open Resource Monitor, I see that ntoskrnl.exe is writing intensively to the VMware .vmem file. As soon as disk writing stops, my PC immediately snaps back to normal.

I have scanned the disk for errors and performance issues with HDTune, I have tested the RAM with memtest. Everything is normal, no errors, drive performance is about 110MB/sec. I have antivirus (Avira Free) and I'm sure that ntoskrnl.exe is legitimate Windows process. Except for this issue, my PC has been running rock stable for three years.

Why writing to a hard drive which is not my OS drive affects the overall performance of a PC so much and what can I do to fix the issue? Also I don't understand, why does suspending to .vmem file take so long?

My virtual machine has Windows 8 as guest OS. It has 4GB of RAM. After I suspend the VM, my host PC is lagging for about 10-15 minutes which seems too much time to just write 4GB of memory state to the .vmem file. I tried also VirtualBox VM with the same guest OS and RAM 4GB and it suspends much faster and doesn't lag my PC after that. Also if I myself move files in Windows Explorer on the same drive, there is no such issue. Thus it seems VMware Player or ntoskrnl.exe is doing something too aggressive.

Here are the specs of my host PC:

CPU: Intel i3 2120

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H67A-USB3-B3

RAM: 8GB

Hard disks:

OS and system disk - Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120 GB, connected to internal SATA3 port

Data disk (which causes the slowdowns): Seagate ST31000528AS 1000 GB, connected to internal SATA3 port

OS: Windows 7 64 bit Professional with SP1, updated regularly

Guest doesn't recognize file changes

$

I have an Ubuntu 14.04 Host and a Win2k8 Guest.  I have my source code (html) files on the host and share them to the guest via Samba.  If I make small file edits to the file on the host, the guest does not recognize the file changes (i.e. I browse to the edited html page in chrome and changes aren't visible). Now, if I navigate to the file on the guest via Windows Explorer, and open the file I see the changes. I can then close the file without saving and on the Guest, refresh the browser and the changes are visible.  I've notice that this happens usually when making small changes within the same minute.  For instance if I make a change at 11:59pm, check in the browser to see the change it will not be visible (nor will any subsequent changes saved at 11:59), but if at 12:00am I save the file again on the Host the Guest will finally recognize the changes.

This has become very, very frustrating as I'm never sure if the code changes I've made are not working or just haven't been recognized by the guest.  I would hate to have to edit the files directly in the guest, but at this point this may be my only option.

FWIW, I tried using shared folders, but that didn't work very well with IIS on the guest because I couldn't ever get the permissions worked out correctly.  If anyone has any suggest, I'd be very happy to try them.

I am running VMWare Player 6.0.3 build 1895310 and have "downgraded" the VM Tools to version 9.6.2 build 1688356 per this thread ( vmghfs file corruption when file written by eclipse ) thinking my issue may be related to the bug described there.  I've also experienced the changes not recognized problem on the latest VM tools.

I was running VWware Fusion 4.1.4 with Windows Vista. It was woking fine (albeit slowly), but recently I have been getting a black screen when I try to sign in. broken installation (Vmware player and workstation) on win 7 enterprise

Hi ,

having used Workstation V6.5.2 for quite some time on my Windows 7 enterprise laptop I have noticed recently (as of this week) that it seems to be broken.  I get an authorization service not running error which is correct because

that service is indeed not running  However starting it is not possible because I get an error "the dependency service does not exist or has been marked as deletion .(1075)".

After having installed and reinstalled many times (and consultation of internet content) I have given up on this.

I downloaded VMWare player (both 5 and 6 versions) instead but both of these refuse to install because they generate an msi installation failure.

Could someone give directions how to get out of this total mess ?

Thanks

Peter

Windows 98 Virtual Machine Help

I'm new to the program so excuse me if this is posted wrong or anything(there's no search button, unless there's a different lingo for search here)^^;

So I got a couple of problems. I have a logitech G35 headset and I can't hear sound through the virtual machine, and the virtual machine doesn't detect anything. The VMtools I've installed doesn't detect that I have it plugged it.

Also, how would I go about connecting to the internet using Windows 98 Virtual Machine? I got a Netgear Rangemax wireless adapter..and obviously Windows 98 doesn't have anything wireless XD

So some help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Installing Antergos

I've recently been using an Antergos vm running in VirtualBox, but for multiple reasons decided to switch over to VMware Player. The first thing I tried was to export the vm as an ovf and import it into VMware, but this for some reason made VMware crash (with an Abort message). I then tried to do a simple install from live disk, and things work fairly normally until right before the live disk gui starts and there is a failed message that says "Failed to start LiveMedia Config Script. See 'systemctl status livecd.service' for details."

Is this a known issue? Where can I go to find more information on this?

I've tried this process on both OpenSUSE 13.1 and Windows Server 2012.

can a physical win 8 pro machine run a virtual win 7pro and winserver2008r2?

I am trying to run virtual player on a win 8 laptop, the os installs but when I attempt to power the vm I get the message "binary translation is incompatible with long mode on this platform. Long mode will be disabled in this virtual environment. Applications requiring long mode will not function properly as a result" it passes the 64 bit compatibility check but then the machine won't start saying Intel VT-x might be disabled, I looked at MS's site and they suggest activating Hyper-V as a windows feature but it is not available to me as I am most likely not running the pro version of win8.1, My question is: will upgrading to win8.1pro enable me to run Win7pro and/or winserver'08r2 VM's on my win 8 laptop? I would like to keep from attempting to dual boot this machine as I have heard that many problems can arise but I don't want to pay $100.00 for the pro upgrade if it won't enable me to run VM's on it, any help?

Kubuntu 14.04 running Player 6.0.3 with WIndows 8 installed - crashes on vmware shutown

I have been using vmware for a couple years in a kubuntu 12.04 installation without any notable issues. I recently opted to do a complete reload of the machine, and installed a vanilla copy of 14.04 kubuntu.  All went well, I ionstalled and launched vmware player. located the instance and launched my Windows 8 operating system.  It asked to upgrade the tools, to 6.0.3 build-1895310, which I allowed it to do.  However, once I instructed Windows to shut down, after a few seconds the system hung.  This happens every time I close the vmware session.  I have checked the syslog and don't see anything noteworthy preceding the crash.  This is the first time I have had any trouble with vmware products, Is there there a good way to debug the cause of the crash?  Has anyone seen a similar issue?  Thanks in advance for your help!
