How to have Host resize to Guest resolution in Fullscreen mode?

$

What preferences do I set so that the host changes to the guest resolution in fullscreen mode?  For example, the host is running at 1920x1080 resolution and the guest is running at 1024x768 resolution.  When I enter fullscreen mode, I want the host to change to 1024x768 resolution.  I don't want either of the following:

- a black border around around the guest, with the host still at 1920x1080

- the guest to resize to 1920x1080, so both are at 1920x1080

I've tried adding the following to the preferences.ini file, but it doesn't work:

pref.autoFitGuestToWindow = "FALSE"

pref.autoFit = "TRUE"

pref.autoFitFullScreen = "fitHostToGuest"

This is VMware Player version 6.03 (64 bit) running on a Linux host and Windows 8 client. When I try to install VMware tools, it pops up a dialog box for the password, except they are all garbled characters. Typing in the correct password does not seem to work. I am attaching a screenshot. Any help would be appreciated.

We are experiencing Guest OS Crashes with the followingsetup when running VMWare Player Plus 6.0.3:

Host OS is  running Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit:

Guest OS is Win XP (32 Bit).

If the VM is configured with more than 4 GByte RAM, the Guest OS crashes during  Startup (Bluescreen).

This is 100% reproducible on several Machines.

Has anybody seen something similar - is there a workaround known ?

Serial port hell

Hello, I am very new to the whole VM environment. I have software that only works on XP 32. It is Building Management System software. The PC communicates to the equipment via RS-485 connected to the PC with a RS-485 to RS-232 converter. My goal is to install a VM image on one of my company's servers and get rid of the pc it now runs on. So I figured it should be easy, a RS-485 to Ethernet server and I would be done. The software does allow for the use of RS-485 or RS-232 via a option when selecting which serial port you use. I have been able to get the system to run using a VM player  with a image of virtual XP running using the real comport. One the things I am having trouble with is the software Carrier Comfort Network replaces the standard xp driver with a modified driver. It does replace the driver in the control panel of the virtual XP machine. So here is my dilemma, How do I redirect the serial server on the host to the virtual RS-232 port in the control panel in the VM. I have tried both RS-485 and RS-232 converters-servers, but I cant seem to get it working. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Howard

Installed VMWare Player on an Ubuntu 14.04 machine.  Appear to have it installed correctly.

Installed Windows XP, then VMWare Tools, then updated XP to SP3 using Windows Update.  All seems well.

Ran DXDIAG and it says I have version 9.0c of DirectX installed.

Installed Origin, used it to download Spore.  When I attempt to run Spore I receive the error in the title of this thread.

I've done several google searches with various keywords, and I can't find anything that jumps out at me.  I clearly have Direct X installed, and it works because I've run the diagnostic texts.  However, Direct3D Acceleration is not available, which I understand is normal?

Anyone have any thoughts as to next steps?

How to get internet access on VM when host machine is assigned with dynamic IP?

Hello,

I have host machine and my ISP provided IP address using DHCP. So, no static IP address in the picture.

Installed VM player to setup lab for Windows Server. I have VM with Windows server 2012 installed. If I use bridge connection, I can internet access.

But I cannot use it because while, adding DNS role, it asks for static IP for server. This change disconnects the internet access.

I need to get the DNS installed and the internet connect. Please tell how to achieve it.

Getting VMware Player to boot from EFI

$

Hi,

I've tried to boot in EFI mode in VMware Player (6.03) but so far I wasn't able to boot from any media I've tried.

I've tried to boot from the Archlinux boot CD: https://www.archlinux.org/download/ which worked on my production system but I'm not able to boot from this CD.

In the UEFI menu I've selected "Boot Manager" -> "EFI VMware Virtual IDE CDROM Drive" but nothing happened.

Attached is also a virtual hard drive where I have installed Gummiboot. I've tried to boot from the HDD from the boot manager selecting the virtual SCSI hard drive and I've also tried "Boot Maintenance Manager" -> "Boot from a file" -> "ARCHBOOT" -> "EFI" -> "gummiboot" -> "gummibootx64.efi" which also didn't help.

Can anybody tell me what's going wrong?

Martin

Adding a virtual printer to Windows XP VM

Hi there,

Note - this is a completely different query to the one I've just posted about Windows NT!

I have a Windows 7 PC with three virtual machines, one running Windows 2000 Pro, one running Windows XP Pro and one running Windows NT Workstation 4.0.  I am looking to add a virtual printer to all three of these machines so that they can access a network printer that my Windows 7 PC has access to.  For the Windows 2000 and Windows NT machines, I can see an option to add a printer in the VMware Player "virtual machine settings" facility.  However, this option does not exist for the Windows XP machine, and I don't understand why.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

VMPlayer cannot restore state: "Host pixel format" problem

$

re: VMWare Player 5.0.2

I am working with a Ubuntu image and suddenly (it was working at one point) I can ONLY restart the image by 'discarding' state and rebooting. I get an error message on startup saying:

"To revert to this snapshot, change the host pixel format to match that of the guest" , although the pixel attributes for host and guest that the err msg recounts *are* matching.

How to mitigate this issue?

Thanks,

Ben.

Use a Parallels VM in VMware Player

Currently run a Windows XP in Parallels on the Mac. I'd like to be able to run this VM in VMware Player in Windows 8.1 65 bit.

Is this possible or will I have to recreate a new XP VM in VMware Player.

If it matters this would be running on a Microsoft Surface Pro 3.

Does VMWare Player Plus support VHDX disc image files?

$

I am using VMware Player to run a virtual machine on my desktop, and have successfully created one from a VHD file that contains a system disk image.

I now wish to add a data disk image that is a VHDX file - it is too large for a VHD image - but VMware Player does not recognise this.

Does anyone know if VMware Player Plus will accept such an image? Or even VMware Workstation?

Thank you

Mike

Windows 7 Professional SP1 Slows Down as time goes on...

Hi all,

An odd issue - I am running Ubuntu as my host OS with VMWare Player 6. My VM is Windows 7 Pro SP1. After booting everything up from scratch, performance is good, but as time goes on, it seems to degrade. Apps within the VM take longer and longer to load up.

If I leave it overnight without shutting down the VM or rebooting the host OS, the next morning, the VM is literally crawling performance-wise. I must shut everything down at that point and bring it all back up. That's the only way to get decent performance again.

Could this be some odd memory leak? Or some other factor that is causing this?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hello,

I have a VMware Player 3.1.4 which runs correctly on windows 7 32-bit. The VM is used to operate my Windows XP Professional.

Now, I have installed same version of VMware player on windows 8 64-bit to run my windows XP but am getting the following error:

"Cannot open the disk 'drive-0.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. Reason: A required DLL could not be loaded."

Same error is obtained on VMware player 4.0

May somebody please help me to solve my query.

Thank You.
