VMWARE-VIX-1.17 Error at installing
Shared Folders Setup
i'm running Workstation Player 15 in Linux with a Windows 7 guest. I have a shared folder on the host system set up and enabled. However, the guest cannot see it unless I also have a network connection. I prefer to work with the guest offline most of the time. Why do I need to have a network connection in order to see a shared folder on the host? Is there a way for guest to use shared folders on the host without the network connection?
VLANs on VMware Workstation 14 Player Free
Is possible to configure different separate VLAN - VLAN100 for host Windows Server 2012 R2 and VLAN150 for guest Windows Server 2012 R2 on VMware Player Free ?
VMGuard freeware application
I am having to entertain someone who will want to use an additional computer I have, so I am going to put them on a VM on that machine. I also need to protect my host computer from being accessed, so I wrote VMGuard for this purpose. I am using VMware-player-Windows-14 because I can't get the newer versions to open my VMs, so that was my test VM.
Connecting Colorado 250MB tape drive
I am running VMWare Player 15 on a Windows 10 and have a guest Windows 95 machine on VMWare. I would like to access a couple of DC2120 QIC-80 tapes through a Colorado 250MB is it possible to access the Colorado 250MB in the Windows 95 guest machine with the addition of a floppy drive in the hardware settings? If it is what would I have to do?
Thanks,

VMware Player just stopped working, when I close it says vm is busy
This is a real head scratcher. I have been using this vm for weeks. All day.
Today I installed a new router. So now I have a gateway device and a router. This should not matter.
I am using VMware-player-3.1.5-491717 on Windows XP host.
I have 4 vm's. It doesn't matter which one I touch with the mouse. Once I touch/click one of them, Player will put a lock
file in the vm's directory.Once it does, I cannot close the vm. It will say "The Virtual Machine is busy". If I start
vmWare Player, and then quit, that works.
It is just if I touch/click a vm, then Player cannot close except by task manager.
These are the contents of the lock files from 2 different vm's.

It doesn't create a vmware.log file, if I move the log files elsewhere.
I see nothing in the windows logs...
I uninstalled it, reinstalled it. Same thing is happening.
I need some help on this one.
Windows 7 Guest VM Low Performance
Hi,
I am trying to run a Windows 7 SP1 Machine on a VMware Workstation 15 Player running on my laptop. Laptop specs are:
Processor Intel i5-7300U 2.60GHz
RAM 8.00 GB
System 64Gbit
Virtual resources for the machines are:
Virtual CPUs 2
RAM: 4GB
Additional settings:
Intel VT-Xd enabled
Windows 7 performance are extremely slow, for example it takes, about 2 to 4 minutes to launch Powershell.
Is there anything I am missing so far ? Any suggestion ? Is there any additional information should I provide ?
Thank you in advance
VMware Player 15 - how to stop easy install for RHEL 7.7
I need to be able to customize my install otherwise RHEL 7 installs without GUI support. I tried to follow a video on youtube with suspending install and then deleting autoinstall setting in Virtual Machine settings, but , unlike on the video, it is greyed out.
Error when starting a newly created VM in Player 15.5 on Windows 10 Pro x64
I installed VM Player 15.5 on Windows 10 Pro x64 and created a new Windows XP VM. When I try to open the new VM, I get the following error:
Error while powering on: Failed to power on 'C:\Users\<current user\Documents\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Professional\Windows XP Professional.vmx'.
I also get the same error if I create a new VM without any guest OS i.e. choosing to install it later. So I know it is not specific to the VM OS image file I have.
My first thought it might be a conflict with Windows 10's Hyper-V, so I removed this as a feature, but I always get the exact same error.
Version mismatch with vmmon module: expecting 360.0, got 385.0.

Guest Machines Do Not Show in VMPlayer Library
My vmware player does not show gest machines in the library. My troubleshooting suggests its a permissions error on whereever the library data is stored.
When I try to open a guest machine the player does not show the guest in the inventory pane of the player. However I can run vmplayer /path/to/machine.vmx and the machine will open execute properly.
When I run vmware player as root (or even a regular user) it works correctly - so it seems clearly tied to my user account. I have tried rm -rf ~/.vmware and rerunning the player but I get the same behavior.
The problem happens with all guest machines - so it does not appear to be related to anything about a machine itself.
Does anyone know where vmware player stores the inventory data? Nothing in the ~/.vmware directory seems to be related to this, but the library data must be persisted somewhere. Where is this file?
I'm running vmware player 3.1.3 build-324285 on Ubuntu Linux 2.6.31-22-generic-pae Ubuntu 9.10.
VMs communicating with devices that have APIPA addresses
We use virtual machines to run our automation software that we use to support production machinery. We have some machines that came into the facility with static IP addresses in the 169.254.200.* subnet, which is used by Windows to assign itself an address after DHCP fails.
Most of our machines have addresses in either the 192.168.0.* subnet or the 10.130.249.* subnet. For those machines, we can use the NAT adapter in the VM and connect with no difficulty. The ones in the 169.254.200.* subnet, however, won't route through the NAT adapter. Instead, we have to use a Bridged adapter. If we only had a few VMs, we could work around that, but we have 6 total host computers, each with 3-5 VMs. That's a lot of IP addresses to allocate in each subnet, and we don't have enough free for that.
Ideally, we would just move the machines from the APIPA range to the 192.168.0.* range, but the machine builder is unwilling to assist and can't provide us with a list of devices within each machine that would be affected. The risk to production is too great to experiment.
Is there a way to let the VM see the devices on the 169.254.200.* subnet through the NAT adapter? The host PC can see them fine and so can the VM through a bridged adapter.
We are running VMWare Workstation Player 12.5.2 build-4638234. The host and guest PCs are all running Windows 7 Professional SP1, 64-bit. We have a couple VMs on each PC that are running Windows XP for legacy software, but they don't need to see these machines.
Error while powering on: The file specified is not a virtual disk.
I met this error and failed to open my ubuntu in VM.
I adopted VM player Version 15
My logs are attached.
I found some vmdk filesize are zero? Does it mean my OS crashed?
Could somebody point out the root cause?
Vmware player 15.5.0 freeze
Hi,
I have an XP VM that has/had multiple issues (i believe since the update to windows 10 64bit 1903).
the first issue was when I tried to open communication to the serial port the player is freeze, i have installed the vmtools again which seems to solve this issue.
the second issue is when I connect plc rs232 to USB adapter to the VM itself the VM is frozen (nothing other than restart the host windows 10 64bit 1903).
did anyone encounter this issues and managed to solve them?

Workstation Player 15 criticall low on free space dialog box on power up
I have been using the ubuntu 18.04 version of workstation player for the past 4 months to power my window 7 vm called "Eagle Tech". Starting around October 1, when I try to power up my virtual machine I am getting the following question
The file system upon which '/home/ken/vmware/EagleTech' resides is critically low on free space. Allowing this virtual machine to continue may cause it to fail unexpectedly. VMware Player has paused this virtual machine because the disk on which the virtual machine is stored is almost full. To continue, free an additional 549.5 MB of disk space.
When I press continue it just loops back to the dialog box. When I press power off. The VM player shuts down.
I have checked all my drive and there of gigs of free space. Any help trying to debug this would be greatly appreciated.
Can't install VMware Tools on Windows 2012 Server R2 guest
I've just installed Player 15 (fresh download from vmware.com) on a new Windows 10 x64 laptop.
I created a 2012 R2 guest with an ISO freshly downloaded from Microsoft. VMware tools did not install. Don't think it auto-mounted the Tools CD.
I tried Player > Manage > Install VMware tools but it's grayed out.
I mounted windows.iso from my VMware install directory and ran setup64.exe. It says it can't verify KB2919355 is installed. Windows Update says there are no more updates for this ISO image.
How can I install VMware Tools in this scenario!??
