Player on Dell Latitude D620

Hello,

I just got a Dell Latitude D620 laptop for travel.  It has an Intel core Duo processor, porcessor

ID 06E8.  VMware player claims this CPU is not 64-bit compatible, and the only player

version that would install is 3.1.6 (build-744570)  Versions 4 and 5 would not install.

I am using the Ubuntu 10.04 OS.

So, I installed Player 3.1.6 and copied the vmx and vmdk files from my desktop system

(which is using Workstation 6.0.5 build-109488) and got the following message when

I tried to start that virtual machine :

"The selected virtual disk is incompatible with this workstation 4.x virtual machine

adding this disk would make this virtual machine incompatible with older

vmware products."

So, can anybody suggest what to do?  I really don't want to spend a lot of money

or effort on something that I probably won't use a lot.  So, is this lack of 64-bit

support a mistake/incompatibility, or are all the new VMware products not usable

on a range of not-really-that-old laptops?  Is there a version of player that will

run on the D620 laptop and run the Workstation 6.x virtual machines?

The converter executable is not present in the player install, as far as I can tell.

Thanks much in advance,

Jon
