Hello,
I used to run a linux development environment in an virtual mashine using vmware player on a windows 7 host. That worked like a charme ... until now ...
I got a new computer (i5-4570, 8GB RAM, SSD, ...) and ported my linux-vm (Mint Linux 14.1, MATE) to this new maschine. Coming from an Core2Duo with only 4GB RAM I expected a huge perfomance boost.
Instead the perfomance while typing, especially in a terminal, but also in browser or wordpad, is so bad, its even sometimes difficult to write "ls"-commands. Its like the hole keyboard-input lags between 0 and up to X seconds. Strangely enough the overall- and grafics-performance isnt that bad. Just typing seems a problem ... for example when moving the cursor thru a big text-file by holdung the arrow key, the cursor continous its way for a little after the key was released. Or when using the backward-key, sometimes it takes a moment it reacts. Same thing while typing ... in other words ... Writing/Typing is PAIN IN THE ... box ...
I've build a new VM based on Mint Linux 15 (x64, MATE) but got the same problems. To fix I already tried a few *.vmx settings with no relaible success. Yesterday the perfomance was perfect for a while (after thousands of restarts and settings-changes) but now its bad again. There where no changes on the host or daemons running. What i tried (in different combinations):
virtualHW.version = "9" (instead of 10)
keyboard.typematicMinDelay = "2000000"
usb.generic.allowHID and mouse.vusb.enable = "TRUE" is added to enable additional mouse buttons (backward/forward).
Its VM Player 6.0.1 build-1379776, newest VMware tools installed. On the old PC (Windows 7 x64) it was VM Player 5.x first but i updated to 6 a while ago and had now such problems.
Please help!
Regards, Karl
PS: Not to mention that the keyboard works perfectly in the host.
