player running old vm's

Hello – I just used converter to convert XP system that ran on an old version of workstation to player

I did the conversion to the latest version of player.  I started up the vm and it all seemd to work fine. I am not sure what triggered the hardware update – the “new vm” or installing vm tools.

The “new hardware” caused xp to try to find drivers – it was for the “base system” and this driver was not located.   It not clear if this driver is part of the tools install, but the tools installed failed.

I thought that the “missing driver” might be on the xp cd, but that did not work.

I tried a few times but the driver could not be located.  The running of the player vm was very slow since I was running the vm on a usb2 drive

I then just ran the workstation vm directly with player (without conversion) and it started up find and did a tools reinstall and that update completed without error –

I there any benefit doing the conversion?
