Player not remembering Virtual Machines or preferences

I've been using VMWare Player for years.

I recently updated to 6.0.1 and now when I start VMPlayer it does not remember my Virtual Machines or my preferences.

From the VMPlayer launch interface I can select "open virtual machine" and add my machine(s) to the list and they run just fine.

However, when I shutdown my machine and run VMPlayer again the list is empty.

Other symptoms:

     1) It always asks if I want to upgrade to Workstation 10, even though I say "skip this version"

     2) It always asks my if I wish to suspend or shutdown the VM when closing, even though I tell it to always do suspend

     3) It always shows me warning dialogs about usb devices, though I have told it to stop warning me

I found the "preferences.ini" file.

The appdata/roaming/VMWare Player/preferences.ini file is getting updated. My last selected machine is in the list and the file is newly written.

It just seems to be ignoring it when it starts up.
