Hi all,
I upgraded my motherboard, increased my ram from 8-16 gb, and then installed Win 8.1 64bit. Everything seems OK. So I then installed and tried to run vmPlayer. I have to VMs, one running Win 8 and the other Win 7. The Win 7 version comes up fine. But the Win 8 now has errors and won't start.
On the first error, I copied all the files to a temp drive (I:) a physical hard drive with lots of disk space.
The VM was suspended, not shut down (I think I have learned to do that now.)
Even a backup I made a few weeks ago will not start, so I am hoping it is something simple.
The errors are:
- unrecoverable error: (vmx) Exception xc0000005 (access violation) has occurred
- Failed to lock the file. Cannot open the disk I:\...Windows 8 x64.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. Module DiskEarly power on failed.
My old MB did not support virtualization, this new one does, so I turned it on (I haven't tested with it off, but will probably try to do so after this.)
Here are the files in the main folder:

I have attached the vmware.log file as well, but it contains lots of messages “cannot create a file when that file already exists” and “The system cannot find the file specified.” I do have the old users folders, so can get files from there if that would help.
Any ideas on what I might do to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
