How do I create a VM with a screen larger than the host's screen?

I have a 1920x1080 monitor, but I want to run a guest with 1920x1200 resolution so I can investigate something.  Is this possible?

I followed the instructions here but no change.  (I actually upgraded to player 7.1.2 just because it mentioned 7.x.x appeared to have some video improvements.)  After making those changes, I tried to drag-resize the guest's screen larger than the physical screen, but it just snaps into alignment with the screen when I release the mouse.  I've already tried disabling window snapping in the host with no effect.

VMware Player 7.1.2

Host OS:   Windows 7 x64 SP1

Guest OS: WIndows 7 x64 SP1.
