Hi
Recently did a fresh install with VMware Player 4.0.5 on Windows 7 x64 SP1, with a virtual machine running Windows XP 32-bit SP3. The only things I use inside the VM are a web browser (Internet Explorer 8) and an SSL VPN client. As the VMware Tools for VMware Player 4.0.5 do not appear to be downloadable, I manually installed VMware Tools v9.0.0 build 782409 from another machine.
Since I've started using it I get a crash about 1-2 times per day (message box displayed on-screen), resulting in being unable to use the VM. The vmware-vmx.exe and vmplayer.exe processes are both still running, and I have to kill them with task manager.
I would speculate that this looks like a bug, so don't necessarily expect a quick-fix but am hoping it will contribute to a more stable release in future.
I primarily use the VM in unity mode; I suspect the problem is related to this based on a hunch and the contents of the vmware.log file, but I don't have proof of this.
The vmware.log file of the VM contains a lot of information, but the following appear to be the relevant bits. The full dump and vmware.log files of the 3x recent occurences are attached to this post.
