I have Windows Small Business Server 2008 x64 as a client VM running on Win 7 x64. On the VM
* Under Network and Sharing Center it says "Not connected" with a red x between "This computer" and "Internet"
* Under "Device Manager" I can see "Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection".
* Under "Network Connections" I see "Local Area Connection, Network cable unplugged, Intel(R)....". The properties for this connection are obtaining IP address and DNS server automatically.
Virtual machine Settings are set to
* Device status - Connected - checked
* Device status - Connect at power on - checked
* Network connection: NAT: Used to share the host's IP address
In the Virtual Network Editor I have VMnet0/1/8. Settings for VMnet8 are:
* Type = NAT
* External Connection = NAT
* Host Connection = Connected
* DHCP = Enabled
* Subnet Address = 192.168.189.0
* Connect a host virtual adapter to this network is checked
* Use local DHCP service to distribute IP address to VMs is checked (DHCP range is 128 - 254)
On the host the properties of VMware Network Adapter VMnet8 are:
* Client for Microsft Networks: checked
* VMware Bridge Protocol: unchecked (also tried checked)
* Virtual Machine Network Services: not checked
* File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks: checked
* Internet Protocol Version 6: checked
* Internet Protocol Version 4: checked (IP address=192.168.189.1, subnet mask=255.255.255.0, default gateway:empty,DNS server addresses: empty)
Based on this can somebody tell me why my client shows "Network cable unplugged" and explain how I can get an internet connection from the VM.
