"C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware VIX\vmrun.exe" -T player [command] "D:\Documents and Settings\APB.XP80GB\My Documents\My Virtual Machines\Ubuntu\Ubuntu.vmx"

Tried start, stop, list for [command].  Always get same error as specified in subject.  What's odd is that this used to work, precisely as specified above - the one difference I'm aware of is that I moved hard drives around so that what used to be my I: disk is now my D: disk as specified above.

I'm able to run "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Player\vmplayer.exe", and then run the virtual machine without problem

Access Linux (Host) folder from Windows 7 (Guest)

I am having trouble accessing a folder on my Linux Mint 14 host from inside a Windows 7 vm I just installed.

The  steps I have taken thus far have all been from the GUI. First I locate  the folder in Mint, right click on it and set it's sharing options. In  there I give full permission to anyone and everything to access and  change that folder. Not much more I can do in there.. The folder gets a  little icon on it to show that it is shared.

Now in the VM Win7 I  can got to Network places and see my Mint host. I can even see the  shared folder. But if I try to access it, I get a permissions error.   'you don't have permission. See system admin etc etc'...

I'm just not sure what else there is to do. Any ideas out there?

Install Tools Offline

Hi,

Been  searching everywhere for an answer to this but can't find one, can't believe I'm the only person with this problem.Either that or I've missed something!

I've installed VMWare Player 3 on a machine that has no internet connect. I try to install vmware tools but of course it fails because it can't connect to the web.

Is there an offline download available somewhere?

cheers,

Matt

VMWare player capturing CTRL-ALT-DEL when attempting to log into host

$

Hi all,

I have an issue with VMWare player. I have several virtual machines and was running one when I logged off my machine. It is possible that the VM was the active window when locking my workstation. When I try to log back in, CTRL-ALT-DEL on the host does not work. I believe the VM is capturing the key combination.

The workaround I have for this situation atm is to RDP in from another machine, disconnect, then I can use CTRL-ALT-DEL to unlock locally again.

Version of VMWare Player being used is 5.0.1. Host machine is Win7 x64 (with latest MS patches as of yesterday). Virtual was Win7 x64 or x86 (can't remember specifically - I was running both during that day).

Kind regards,

Marc

Audio input to Guest

I have a USB Headset / Microphone which works fine on the host, but does not produce input when connected to the Windows 7 Guest.  The device is recognised and is listed in audio devices, and the sound output works.  The sound input reports itself as "ready" - I notice though that the input is listed as "line in" even though it is USB. Having said that, the device properties do identify it as USB.

I've disallowed exclusive use, just in case anything else was taking the input - and it's not muted

Does anyone have any suggestions for things to try?

List of Drives Blank During Windows Installation under VMWare Player under Ubuntu

I'm trying to install Windows 7 in a VM under VMWare Player under Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS 64 Bit. However, when I get to the portion of the screen to select the drive to install Windows on, the list of drives are blank. The VM did successfully create a virtual drive when creating the VM.

How can I get the virtual drive to appear under Windows so I can proceed with the installation?

Thanks!

Hi everyone, my vmware player can not detect any usb (removable device) after i do some changes. I don't really remember what did i do, maybe add a hard disk using physical disk option. Now i want to fix the problem by re-install wmware, but it's not work. It can not remove completely even i un-tick the check box of save VMware Player Configuration in remove. After i install, the virtual machine will be loaded(left hand side of VM player), and it shows vmware player do not delete completely. The player still can't detect USB. What should I do?

"Virtual Machine Settings" dialog is unresponsive

VMware Player, version 5.0.2 build-1031769

Host: WinXP3 (32 bit)

Guest: Linux Mint 14 (64 bit)

My VM works in every way except as described below.

In the top-right of the VM toolbar is found 6 icons with text: "Hard Disk (SCSI)", "CD/DVD (IDE): Auto detect", "Network Adapter Bridged (Automatic)", "Network Adapter 2: Host-only", "Printer: Present", "Sound Card: Auto detect". Right-clicking on any of them and choosing "Settings..." brings up the "Virtual Machine Settings" dialog. When I do that, the VM goes continuously busy (hourglass), and I have to use Windows Task Manager to kill it. While the VM is locked up, there's no disk activity and the "Virtual Machine Settings" dialog is unresponsive.

Got any troubleshooting ideas?

Thanks - Mark.

Can't create Shortcuts to Win XP mode applications

$

I have windows 7 Pro and have it set up to run Windows XP mode.

But The virtual machine Microsoft use to run XP mode does not appear to be working properly - or maybe I have lost or corrupted files.

The problem is I can't open the host OS hard discs in XP mode. When I try to do this using XP mode Windows Explorer, the system reverts to Win 7 (desktop) and starts reloading XP mode again.

So I downloaded and installed VMware Player and loaded XP mode into it. It works well and I can now open the Win7 drives. I have also successfully loaded my applications.

What I can't do is set up short cuts to these applications on the Win 7 desktop.

I have followed the instructions which involve settings in the "Options/Unity" tab of setup, but some of the fields referred to do not appear.

Help would be appreciated

Unable to run Teradici Management Console (custom Ubuntu .vmdk)

$

I'm running VMware Player 5.0.2 on Windows 8 Professional 64-Bit, and am attempting to launch a custom Ubuntu virtual machine disk that was created to manage multiple virtual machines remotely.  My employer wants me to get the VM working on my personal machine before we deploy it and use it to manage hundreds of other VMs. Ultimately, this will involve vSphere, View, and ESX servers, but for now, my part is just to get one copy of it working in the basic VMware Player.

Whenever I try launching this vmdk, I get multiple errors:

"Binary translation is incompatible with long mode on this platform. Disabling long mode. Without long mode support, the virtual machine will not be able to run 64-bit code."

(this shouldn't be a problem; my employer only wants to run 32-bit software)

then:

VMware Player cannot open one of the virtual disks needed by this VM because it is larger than the maximum file size supported by the host file system. Some remote file systems do not support files larger than 2 GB, even though the file system on the server might.

The file is too large

Cannot open the disk 'E:\PCoIP_MC_Rel-1.8.1_GA\PCoIP_MC_rel-1.8.1-rc_pcoipmc_1_8@3212.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

The VM then crashes. I've searched all over for forum posts documenting similar problems, but the only ones I've seen are from people who were trying to use FAT32 (I've checked, this hard drive is definitely NTFS).

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong, and how to resolve the problems?

If it helps, here are my system details:

Host: Core 2 Duo SL9400 1.86GHz 6MB L2, 4GB 1066MHz, 160GB 7200RPM HDD (NTFS), Intel Mobile Series 4 Graphics, Windows 8 Professional 64-Bit

VM: 1 Core, 640MB RAM, 4GB Storage, Ubuntu

Problems with Synaptics touchpad not able to scroll in Guest OS (Windows XP)

$

I have an HP Pavilion laptop running VMware player 3.0.0 build-203739 with VMware tools. The guest is Windows XP. The Synaptics touch pad works in the guest but the scroll region does not scroll. Device manager shows a HID-compliant mouse and VMware Pointing Device. Installed in the Mouse and other pointing devices category.

Has anyone been able to get the scroll region to work? I tried using the manufacturers drivers but VMware didn't like that and it gave me the BSOD repeatedly until I removed the Synaptic drivers. I tried to search the Web, FAQ's, and support site but didn't find any useful information.

I like using VMware Player but it is a bit of a pain to not have the scroll on the touchpad.

Thanks for the help.

Mouse invisibly sticks itself - Linux host & guest

(VMWare player 5, latest version)

Hello. I have a little problem - the invisible mouse of the actual vm sticks itself without affecting the visible cursor when approaching corners of a vm if either guest and host are Linux.

For example: I move a window to the corner of the vm - and it is stuck there for few seconds, even if i move the visible mouse out of the way and even if i unhold the left mouse button. And it does that even in fullscreen, and even with guest add-ons installed.

Example video has been uploaded here as well as here(link in case you can't see it from the following YouTube embed video):

Please help me fix this problem, etc...

On a Windows guest it never happened.

Hello - I'm trying to install Player 5.0.2 on a headless Slack 14 system.  I am invoking the installer as root with the '--console' parameter to eliminate some of the GTk failures I see in /var/log/vmware-installer.   The install proceeds until the 'USB Arbitrator' step and then appearrs to hit a problem and rolls back the entire install.  Any ideas?

Network problem

Hi,,

I have one virtual machine with Centos 6.4 on my laptop configured with two nics.

One nic is configured for a private lan between my laptop and VM.

The other is configured for DHCP use when I connect my laptop at office.

At my office I use DHCP and my system get an IP when I turned on my VM, but I don't get any access to internet.

The DNS configuration is working but don't return any queries.

Can someone help me please?

Thanks in advance,

SP

Can anyone tell me what's going on because I'm dead in the water.

VMware Player, version 5.0.2 build-1031769

Host: WinXP3 (32 bit)

The link below points to my OP...

Player/Workstation clash (bug?) causes "Virtual Machine Settings" dialog to hang

...but it goes deeper. I think there may be a problem with Player 5.0.2 build-1031769.

I hid my existing Guest and re-installed Player. Then I started to create a new Guest. In the 'New Virtual Machine Wizard' I saw this:

Ready to Create Virtual Machine

Click Finish to create the virtual machine. Then you can install Ubuntu 64-bit.

The virtual machine will be created with the following settings:

Name:             Ubuntu 64-bit

Location:         C:\My Virtual Machines\Ubuntu 64-bit

Version:          Workstation 9.0  <<-- NOTE

Operating System: Ubuntu 64-bit

Version: Workstation 9.0? That's got to be a bug. Maybe that's the reason why, when I attempted to update, my Player installation got screwed up. If someone will confirm, I'll file a bug report.

Player 5.0.1 did the same thing, so I tried installing Player 4.0.6 build-1035888. In the 'New Virtual Machine Wizard' I saw this:

Ready to Create Virtual Machine

Click Finish to create the virtual machine. Then you can install Ubuntu 64-bit.

The virtual machine will be created with the following settings:

Name:             Ubuntu 64-bit

Location:         C:\My Virtual Machines\Ubuntu 64-bit

Version:          Workstation 8.0  <<-- NOTE

Operating System: Ubuntu 64-bit

Version: Workstation 8.0? Was Player 4 screwed up too, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

In Player == Workstation ? I was assured that Player is not Workstation. Can anyone tell me what's going on because I'm dead in the water.

Thank you,

Mark.
