win10 2004 update wants to uninstall my player

I'm one of those if it ain't broke don't update it...

 

I've been running a free vm player 7.1.1 for so long now I don't know what the status of vmware is these days.

 

Last year, after a win10 update, I had to follow some instructions to remove vmware from some compatibility checker. That took a week to finally figure out how to get the old player working again.  But that at least didn't force me to uninstall vmware player to get the update.

 

Now, before the update to 2004 even started, windows asks me to uninstall player. I see no way to proceed. My guess it if I uninstalled it, windows would refuse to let me re-install it, if I can even find the installer file after so long. I've made a few image backups, so if something goes really wrong I can get back fairly easily.

 

Is there even a free version available these days? If so, where can I get them. Will my older vm systems still run?

 

If my only hope is to buy a version, is there a reasonably low cost  version I could get instead. Will it run my old vm machines? By low cost, I'm thinking on the order of $50 or less.

Problems w/ VMware Workstation 15 Player

Hi! I recently downloaded VMware Worksation 15 Player and on it I created a VM with Kubuntu. Then I downloaded, from arduino.cc, the Arduino IDE. Now I've a problem: After writing the code and checking it, I tried to send it to Arduino Uno, but the software signals an error when loading (Permission denied). I have checked that I have selected the correct port and also the card, so it is a problem of setting the VM. Would anyone explain to me how to send the code to Arduino from VMware, please?

Running VMware on Win 10 Home Machine - Device/Cedential Guard Issue

Hey all,

 

As i'm trying to boot up a VM, I get the message that "VMware Player and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible. VMware Player can be run after disabling Device/Credential Guard. Please visit http://www.vmware.com/go/turnoff_CG_DG for more details."

 

However, as i am running Windows 10 Home, I am not able to configure and sort my Hyper-V Configuration, which is making it problematic for me to disable it. I already have AMD SVM enabled, and have a VM ready to go once this issue is solved (hopefully). Anyone know a fix for this?

 

Im running Workstation 15 Player, with a Ryzen 3600 with Windows 10 HOME.

Does anybody know if an sdk has been release for Workstation 15?

I was getting the error "can't locate VMrun" and was told to download the sdk since gns3 wasn't able to see my VMware. I did and it's able to see it now but the sdk I downloaded only supports Workstation 12. Any help is appreciated.

Ctrl-Alt (to direct input back to host OS) stopped working in Player 15.5.5

Host: Windows 10

Guest: Xubuntu (VMware Tools installed)

 

After upgrading to VMware Player 15.5.5 yesterday (and selecting "Enhanced Keyboard Driver", which might be related), I'm having the following two problems:

 

1. The guest OS no longer seems to recognize Alt keypresses (e.g. to show a window's menu bar), although it still recognizes combinations like Alt-Tab.

 

2. After I log in to the guest OS (but not before, interestingly), VMware Player no longer responds to Ctrl-Alt as a way to "unfocus" the guest and direct input back to the host. This means the only way I can get out of Player in fullscreen mode is to mouse up to the menu bar at the top.

 

Is this a known issue? Any advice? Thanks in advance!

If either caps lock or num lock are activated in the VM, they can not be toggled until the VM is rebooted

As the title states, I'm having issues with the caps lock and num lock keys. If I hit one of them accidentally, the VM is practically unusable, as I'm often either stuck in insert mode or stuck in caps. Right now I'd consider this to make the product unusable.

 

This came about just a few days ago when a VMWare update came out, running v15.5.5 build-16285975. Currently using a Windows 10 host and two Linux VMs, an Arch and an Ubuntu, are affected.

"The virtual machine is busy" error

I've been getting this problem lately:

 

When trying to start a VM, VMware Player just sits there, doing nothing; the VM does not boot.

Trying to close the VMware Player window brings up the error message "The virtual machine is busy" - this error message can not be closed.

 

Task Manager shows the vmplayer.exe process is using as much CPU as it can get, and the vmware-vmx process has not started.

Killing the vmplayer process closes the windows, but does not solve the problem - trying to start the VM again has the same result as above.

Killing both vmplayer and vmware-usbarbitrator64 does help, although the VM seems to boot slower than usual.

 

Host is Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Guest is Windows XP Professional SP3

Player version is 5.0.1 build-894247

VMWare Player 15.5.5 on Windows 10 2004 (home edition)

I would really appreciate assistance.

 

First I was running VMWare Player version 15.5.2 on Windows 10 1909 (home edition) without any issues at all. Everything was good and the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS was installing and running without any issues.

 

A couple of days ago I updated my computer to Windows 10 2004 and then I couldn't start my Ubuntu VM any longer receiving this error message: "VMware Player and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible. VMware Player can be run after disabling Device/Credential Guard."

 

I was recommended in another thread here executing the command "bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off" in windows command prompt as admin. Problem is: If I do this then my WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) stops working instead...........

 

Instead I tried installing the lastest VMWare Player version 15.5.5

 

Now I managed to install Ubuntu version 20.04 LTS but with various issues.

 

First during every boot I see these "Firmware Bug" error messages for every assigned cpu:

0.786049 [Firmware Bug]: cpu 0, try to use APIC520 (LVT offset 2) for vector 0xf4, but the register is already in use for vector 0x0 on this cpu

 

Then inside Ubunto (after booting up) I had issues with crackling, popping sound. Not sure if auto feature for soundcard completely failing or what's going on?

 

Any experiences and recommendations will be highly appreciated.

 

My hardware is Ryzen 3700X running on Asus Prime X370-Pro

Player V15.5.5 Sound Issues

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 2004 (64bit) and likewise upgraded to Player V15.5.5.  Since, all of my VM's have absolutely horrible, garbled sound.  Long story short, I kept the new version of Windows, but downgraded to player version 15.5.2, and the sound is perfect again.

 

Don't have any of the Windows virtualization features enabled, and not sure I will ever do so since I don't have a need for the Sandbox, etc.  Therefore, no reason to upgrade to the latest player.

 

Question is, has anyone else experienced this? and what did you do to resolve it with version 15.5.5.?  I am in the habit of installing the latest versions, but not at a cost of quality or functionality.

Graphic issues with VMware Player 15.5.5-16285975

Hi,

 

with version 15.5.5 I have the the following problem in Windows 10 Pro x64 (Guest):

 

If I start a UWP app, it occurs, that buttons and other controls won't be shown. If I move the mouse over these elements, they appear. It occurs in different apps but not in each UWP app.

 

I installed the VMWare Tools 11.0.6 but it didn't help. So I uninstalled VMWare Player 15.5.5 and reinstalled version 15.5.2, and I have to say: All works fine again. So it seems in version 15.5.5 is a problem.

VMWare Workstation Player installation failure in Ubuntu 18.04.4 host

I have installation failing in ubuntu 18.04. 15.5.2 installation worked without problems but can't upgrade to 15.5.5 (to enable ubuntu host upgrade to 20.0.4)

Vmplayer 15.5.5 Upgrade ends with Setup failed to create the VMware group on the system

Dear All,

Can anybody help please?

 

Context: WIN10 Pro 1909 -- OS Build 18363.836 (latest patches installed)

Issue: Upgrade VMware-player-15.5.2-15785246 to VMware-player-15.5.5-16285975

ends with error message “Setup failed to create the VMware group on the system”

Situation: V15.5.2 has been running perfectly for months without any problems. Yesterday VMware Player proposed to upgrade to V15.5.5.

This ended in a complete nightmare:

1. The upgrade ended with the message “Setup failed to create the VMware group on the system”

2. And started a rollback ending with the message

“VMware Workstation 15 Player setup was interrupted. Your system has not been modified.

To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again.

Click the Finish button to exit the Setup Wizard.”

3. … Your system has not been modified … : NOT True! The previous version was completely removed and the NIC was broken! So, no network anymore!

4. After 3 hours of testing I uninstalled my VPN program,  which activated the NIC again.

5. Manually trying to reinstall V15.5.2 or V15.5.5 gave each time “Setup failed to create the VMware group on the system

6. I cleared manually the registry and removed all entries on disk mentioning vmware

          Btw, VMware-player-15.5.2-15785246.exe /clean does not work!

7. I ran VMware-player-15.5.2-15785246.exe and VMware-player-15.5.5-16285975.exe as administrator

8. System Restore to previous version failed

9.I lost a complete day testing and trying, and the result is that VMware Player cannot be installed anymore

 

Question: How to repair the message “Setup failed to create the VMware group on the system”

unable to upgrade from player 15.5.1 to 15.5.2

never have had any install issues over last 8-9 years of player.  Attempted to upgrade to 15.5.2 today and got this message. tried to direct to .msi in common files with no benefit

 

windows 10 pro, no antivirus other that windows defender. commodo firewall

What is the way to remote desktop into a Centos OS 7 virtual machine

I'm new to VMware player and am trying to figure out what is the best way to access a virtual machine from a different computer? 

 

Should I be using VMware software from my computer to access it to the remote VM?

 

or do I use some other type of remote desktop software to remote right into the Centos OS 7 virtual machine?

VMware Workstation Player ARP

Hi,

 

I have installed VMware WS Player and have two VMs configured: a Linux (Ubuntu) and a Windows Server.

 

On the host machine, by typing the arp -a command I can see the IP addresses of the guest machines with their virtual MAC addresses. However, on the other network devices (for example my firewall) I can see these IP addresses are mapped to the host's MAC address. Can you please let me know if this is the normal behaviour of Vmware WS Player or I can change it so all the devices in my network can learn the virtual MAC addresses of the guests instead of the host.

Hi.

 

I was able to have nextstep on my desktop using a VMware workstation.

The DoomED program was preinstalled in nextstep.

 

Can anyone help me as to how to insert doom.wad file in doomed in the vm? I have no clue.

Hi all,

after years on ESXi I'm at my very first time with workstation player with Win10 on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Deploy was easy, but I suddendly noticed strange USB behaviour, one USB pen key was seen twice from Win10.
I did a lot of update and recofingure based on answers of askubuntu (it seemes aa raphic card issue, but nothing.

Of course 3D suppor is enabled in the config od VM.

 

Any hints?

my notebook system has i5-1035G7, 8G ram , windows 10 pro, ver 2004, os build 1941.264

 

when I run vmware player install software, I can see the logo image just a little time. and disappear everything.

 

and no more happen.

 

I can't know whats the problem.

Hi all,

I have the cisco virl CML 2.0, but I have problem during the installation:

 

"Please attach the reference platform image DVD/ISO file to the CML2 appliance.

If it is not present, then lauching network topologies will likely fail!

Please consult the installation documentation."

I have added the iso image file refplat_p-20..... in the vmware workstation.

In the virl  web gui is missing and and I can use default devices (switch, server etc.), but no other options from the iso image, like routers.

How can I add the iso file in the vmware?

 

I am using:

- CML-Personal 2.0

- on HP Elitebook 840 G6 - intel Core i5-8365U CPU @ 1.60GHz 1.90 GHz / RAM 8 GB

- with VMware-player-15.5.5
