Hello,

I'm using VMware Workstation 14 Player, more info below and (after some update of windows) my problem is that sometimes, when I start virtual machine with windows 10 i got only black screen and nothing happend. After that I need restart host computer, change destination of files with virtual machine, delete folders with end ".lck" and after that open new virtual machine (new destination) and it's work. Did someone know how to solve this problem? In attachments I add UI log and VM log.

I see there in About VMware Workstation he see Host OS version: Windows 7, but I use Windows 10 (second screenshot)...

How Do I run vmware workstation player as a non-root user in Debian 10 buster?

As the title says it all; When I run vmplayer at the commandline the gui shows up asking whether I want to enter a serial number or use it for free--I select free and then the terminal says:

Authentication is needed to run `/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-setup-helper' as the super user

Authenticating as: root

Password:

So I enter my root passwd and get this error:

polkit-agent-helper-1: error response to PolicyKit daemon: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Failed: No session for cookie

==== AUTHENTICATION FAILED ===

Error executing command as another user: Not authorized

This incident has been reported.

pls advise appreciate your input

Windows 10 2004 with player 12 ?

My CPU incompatible with anything above version 12 of workstation player

The new Windows 10 2004 won't install unless I remove Player 12.

Will there be a way to run player 12 on windows 10 2004 once I upgrade ? will it really break something or Microsoft is just being too cautious by blocking version 12 ?

Prevent VM from capturing certain keys/shortcuts

I'm looking for a way to prevent VM from capturing certain shortcuts so if I press them in guest machine they will be send to host just like Ctrl+Alt+Del do without extended keyboard driver.

So e.g. I set that Ctrl+Shift+B is this shortcut I don't like to be captured and if I press Ctrl+Shift+B in guest system this key combination will be send to host system.

I'm interested in passing extra mouse keys (like backward and forward) directly to host system as well.

All VMs Start with Black Screen

Recently moved all my VMs from Host Win7-64bit to Win8-64bit.

Fresh install of Player v 5.0.2 build-1031769

Computer is Acer Aspire M Intel i5 @ 1.8Ghz

Graphics is Intel HD 4000

When any of the various VMs are started from the Powered Off state, the player window will open and a big black screen will appear where the guest display should be shown. The guest OS does indeed boot, right up to the login screen although with no display visible. If I try to click on the close button in the upper right corner, I get a dialog box that says "The Virtual Machine is Busy". My only option is to end the vmplayer.exe task using task manager. Once I do that, the VM shows state as Powered On in the Library. If I Play it the 2nd time, the VM will resume operating correctly with the proper display at the immediate point where I expected it to be when I ended the vmplayer.exe task earlier.

Presence or absence of Tools in Guest does not affect the problem.

All 3 of my VMs have the exact same behavior. Guest operating Systems are: WinXP-SP3-32bit, Win7-64bit built from the VMware Converter, and Server 2008 from the MS eval ISO.

Any ideas? Once the play/end task/play sequence is performed the VM works correctly. Until it is shutdown or hibernated. A VM restart does not exhibit this symptom. The problem is reproducible with all VMs every time.

Provided vmx for the XP VM and a few logs.

Thanks in advance. I'm so close to having this work it's even more frustrating than if it didn't work at all.

Screen size and resolution question

Hello all, I have a VMware workstation 15 player instance, I have both a W10 and a CentOS VMs present.

Both VMs have a similar issue.

Full screen does not work properly and I cannot enlarge past 1920x1080

My monitor is 2560x1440, if I hit fullscreen I get letterbox style black bars around the entire image, and if you move a window out, it disappears, like moving it off the side of the monitor.

I have tried with and without hardware acceleration, told it to auto detect, tried to manually set the resolution as well.  The VM has 16gb of base ram assigned and 6 processors, and 3gb for video, base system resources are 32gb, 20 cores, and 11gb for video respectively, so there isn't a lack of said resources available.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

VMWare Tools not installing on CentOS 7 Minimal VM, using Workstation Player 15

Hi,

I have a CentOS 7 vm running in Workstation Player 15. I am trying to install VMWare Tools, as I believe I need this to set up Shared Folders. There does not appear to be a simple installation process. I try to install VMWare Tools from the application, but see the option unavailable like in vmwaretools1.png attached

open-vm-tools is installed on my machine.

I attempted the following steps:

mkdir /mnt/cdrom

mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

But when I check the contents of /mnt/cdrom/, the expected VMWare Tools tar.gz file is not there, see vmwaretools2.png attached

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

VMWare Workstation Player Printing Problems

I recently upgraded to the latest version of the player ( 15.5.6 build 16341506 ) from the previous version and I now have problems with printing documents from the virtual machine. VMWare tools ( 10.0.12 ) appears to set up the printing correctly because if I create a Wordpad document and some text in the virtual machine, that will print fine. However, if I try to print a page from an existing particular document in the virtual machine the end result is that all the text is small squares. However, diagrams will print but with the text garbled. Print preview gives the same result.

The host machine is a PC running Windows 10 version 1909 build 18363.959. The guest software is Windows XP and within that is a package that runs with Acrobat Reader 4 embedded. It is obvious there is a problem with the fonts and I have tried various fixes but none seem to work. What I don’t understand is that it all worked OK on the previous versions of the Player.

What I don’t know is where Thin Print obtains its font information from, if it does at all.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Probably been asked before but is it possible to install Workstation player on an NVIDIA Xavier AGX ? The system is running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on an ARMv8 Processor x8

I am getting the error cannot execute binary file: Exec format error, which suggests it is not compatible !

I am a complete amateur at this stuff, so any help gratefully received!

Understanding VM performance and hardware

Hello,

I am running a vm through vmware player in a multi-seat set-up and so far it is running flawlessly.

However, I was wondering if I could still improve the performance and what hardware would matter. My hardware configuration now is Ryzen 3900x, Radeon 5700xt, 16gb corsair lpx ram, samsung evo plus 1tb ssd. Vm is set to 6core, 3gb gpu ram, 7gb memory.

For example, would adding another (small) gpu only for the vm improve its graphic performance? As mentionned here: Make VMWare Workstation use my Nvidia card?

Does the speed and the amount of ram matter? For example, would a memory kit with tight timing change anything? Would 64 or 128 gb memory improve the overall experience and how much is too much?

Would a second ssd change anything? For example, vm files and documents based on a slightly slower ssd improve (or eventually make worst) vm performances? I have read here that ssd performance goes slightly down while in vm (which is fine): Performance of NVME SSD Disk with VMware Workstation 12 Pro  Here, it is mentionned 60%. Is it a cap or is it a percentage. A slower ssd with host performance of "Seq Read, 10 GB in VM: 1446 MB/s Seq Write, 10 GB in VM: 778 MB/s"  would perform slower or the same?

Does vmware workstation (paid product) changes anything in vm performance?

Thank you very much for your answers.

How can you increase the font size for a DOS VM?

I'm currently using VMWare Player 15.5.0 build-14665864 for an MS-DOS VM. I have a 4K display. The window that the VM occupies is tiny and the text is difficult to read.

Is there a way to specify a larger font be used in the VM to make the display easier to read? Even simple pixel doubling would help here.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have installed the vmware tools and try to reset the pixel dimenssion, the status is still the same. I don't know if anyone has experienced this kind of issue before or can help.

Reset NVRAM On El Capitan 10.11.2 Using VMWare Workstation Pro

I have El Capitan 10.11.2 running on VMWare Workstation Pro. I have been told to reset the NVRAM by booting "my mac" while holding Command+Option+P+R. I can't seem to figure it using VMWare.

Can anyone help?

player delete or rename

I can't delete or rename it. I can't do anything with it.

In desperation, I used Windows Explorer to manually delete that VM's folder/files, but that didn't solve my problem because it still shows within the Player library.

Then I uninstalled VMWare Player 15, rebooted, then reinstalled it, but that did no good. It's maddening.

Windows XP Virtual Disk problems

I've used disk2vhd to copy the contents of my old Acer Laptop's hard drive, with Windows XP SP3 installed, to my MSI computer in order to run it as a virtual machine. However, whenever I boot it up, whether it be in VirtualBox or VMWare, I get this error:

Windows VHD trouble.PNG

I've done this with another computer with Windows XP SP2 and that one ran well. This buggy virtual drive is a .vhd file. I have opened the contents of this hard drive myself, and compared the system file with that of the working Windows hard drive, so I can only assume that Windows is having trouble accessing the system file in the first place.

What do I do?

How to avoid VPN on host and only connect to LAN on host?

$

So I've got this work computer... yes it has too many group policies preventing me from what I want to do so I installed a VM using Player trying to set up my own stuff in the VM. I'm struggling to set up the VM's network so it bypasses work VPN on the host and only acts as another computer on my LAN. Is this possible?

The VPN is Citrix Gateway, the network connection for the VPN is on Citrix Virtual Adapter network adapter. Windows 10 Enterprise.

In addition, the PC has cellular capability. But I don't think it's possible to bridge the VM to the cellular adapter? It's a DW5820e Intel 7360 LTE-A cellular adapter.

I could set up a proxy server on my LAN and just use the proxy server. Citrix Gateway is letting me have access to my LAN. But I want to explore if it's possible to have the VM completely separate from the VPN connection and only use my LAN connection, wired or wireless.
