Running Player 9 on a W7U 64-bit host OS. Player 9 is installed on my Apps (E:) drive.
Installing either Ubuntu 12.4 or Fedora 17 gives me virtual disk problems.
Have three physical HDs. Two 240G SSD's and one 600G Velociraptor
Got install issues (meaning Player 9 is not doing what I want it to do):
Player 9 is putting all it's guest OS virtual file descriptors (.vmx and .vdmk files) on my C: (SSD) drive; not my E: (SSD) drive where the app is installed.
Player 9 is creating and mounting only the linux swap and root volumes. I need five volumes and mounts: root, home, tmp, var, and swap.
Player 9 appears to be allocating space for its virtual drives from the host's C: drive. This drive is full (or will be soon). There is no free space for virtual file expansion on this SSD.
I need to move the virtual machine and file descriptors from my C: drive to my E: drive.
I need to allocate physical space for five virtual volumes from the free space on the other two drives (143G on the SSD and 430G on the Velociraptor). I need to convey these setting changes to whichever (Ubuntu or Fedora) guest OS I decide to use.
I am significantly hampered by my knowledge of Windows, VM, and Linux. I am not a noob, but there are days, like this one, where I feel sooo ignorant.
Thanks for the help ...
Solution: I switched to Workstation because it has the disk manager program file I needed to create and/or move physical or virtual files to specific drives and/or partitions on drives. I am a happy camper now. But why this disk manager program is not included with Player 5 is beyond my ken ... it's such an obvious need.
And a big thanks to everyone who helped me ramp up my knowledge curve; it was appreciated.
