How to access one VM from another VM?

Hi,

I have two VMs running on my machine. The network configuration used is NAT for each VM.

VM1: 192.168.181.170

VM2: 192.168.181.171

There is one http service running on VM2 at port 9990. On VM2 -> Browser -> localhost:9990 gives the response. But on VM1 -> Browser -> 192.168.181.171:9990 doesn't work.

Trying VM1 -> Command Prompt -> telnet 192.168.181.171 9990 complains connection refusal.

Can someone suggest how to get it to work?

Newbi starting VMwre - Questions

$

I am new to virtual disks, trying to get started.

I down loaded the VMware player and was able to install the program without issues.  I have just a few questions before I finish this up.

Host = Win7.  I wanted to install a VM for Linux Mint17 and was able to do this and it ran, but want to actually install this on a local HD. (Not C:)

It is now running off of the LiveDVD and because of that has locked out my DVD Drive.(G:)  I could not find a way to unlock it.

My Win7 machine boots off of CD/DVD first and therefore when starting up, it runs mint rather than Win7, obviously not what I want.

Questions:

1.I want to run the VM off of data drive (m:) Hard Drive.  i.e.  M:/VMware/Mint17

2. Just to make sure I am doing this correctly, once Mint 17 is up and running in a VM, it says to right click on "Install Mint" with further choices being erase disk and install linux mint. I am assuming this means the VM and not the windows install.  Next question asks "use the entire disk" again assuming the total amount allocated to the VM?

3.  Once installed, this will not lock out my M: drive??, I would think not??

4.  While running off of the LiveDVD, mint17 was in a small window in the center of the screen (about 1/4) of total area.  Is this adjustable?

Sorry for all the ?, but  I am sure it will fall into place after this initial install.  TX

VMware Player fails to initialize after upgrading to version 6

When starting VMWare Player 6, all UI elements are missing and there are several boxes on the right side of the window. After several seconds, Windows reports the application as "not responding". Memory, CPU and disk usage are all low. So as far as I can tell, the application is not simply busy. I've never had any problems like this with VMWare Player 5.0.x and earlier, and I can still downgrade to a fully functioning 5.0.2. However, I'd really like to upgrade to take advantage of support for newer Guest OS's.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get VMWare Player 6 working correctly?

I've attached a screenshot of the VMWare Player window. I'm using Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit on an Intel Core 2 Duo (E8400). Please let me know if I can provide any other information that might help.

Kernel development: after installing kernel in guest machine, folder sharing (hgfs) stopped working

In order to learn about Linux kernel development, I got vmplayer, installed it on a 64-bit Linux machine, installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS in the VM, and configured the VM with shared folders so I could easily copy things between the host and guest machines.  I compile a 3.16.3 kernel on the host machine, brought up the guest machine (which had the 3.13.0 kernel), used hgfs to get to the installed kernel, installed it, and rebooted.  Everything worked fine, I could choose between the original 3.13.0 kernel and the new 3.16.3 kernel via GRUB at boot time.

Well, everything was fine except that hgfs was no longer working, either in the original kernel or the new kernel.  Booting into the original 3.13.0 kernel, I tried "reinstall VMWare tools", but that told me that I had to mount a virtual CDROM, as opposed to when I'd done this right after installing Ubuntu, where (if I remember correctly) it did it automatically. And when I tried following the instructions on how to do it for from the CDROM, it modified the 3.16.3 files under /boot was compiling stuff for the 3.13.0 kernel, I'm guessing because the 3.16.3 kernel became GRUB's default kernel after I ran update-grub.

So:

1) Does vmplayer not have "just automatically do hgfs" support for the 3.16.3 kernel?

2) Could I fix hgfs support for the original 3.13.0 kernel by making it GRUB's default kernel and then reinstalling the VMWare tools in the guest machine?

VMWare Player not loading on Win7

I've had vmware player on a Win7 machine for some time.  v5 was loaded on the machine.  It gets used about once a yr to load some legacy software.  Recently when starting the player, the vmware-usbarbitrator service starts, and the vmware-authd service, but that's where it ends.  The UI never appears.  I've done a full uninstall and reinstall with the latest version, but the problem persists.  The VMWare DHCP service and NAT service are not started.  But, if I try to manually start either service windows responds that the service started then stopped again.

I installed the VMware Tools.

The only Problem is had was the PCI Bridge to Bridge Loop. Well i solved this and everything is fine but the Printer.

i can install the Printer without any Problems. Win98 accepts the Driver and the Printer is also listed in device Manager.

The software im using does only work with Windows 98 and a LPT Printer.

so in Windows 7 the Printer can print but when i try to connect the LPT port into the VM i get the error message:

"The LPT1 device is used by another program. Failed to connect virtual device parallel0."

Vmware Player 6.0.3 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Host, Network Bridge on for more than one NIC

Dear All,

Would like your help to tell us more about the Network bridge control on Vmware Player on Linux

I'm running Vmware player on an Unbuntu 14.04 Host

And I've eth0 and eth1 on the NIC, I would like to make it a bonding so that Vmware player can enjoy it without any trouble.

However, I found that seem to be not possible

So I change it back to eth0 and eth1...

But I still found that the vmbridge are map to my eth0.150

which is strange... (because when you add a vlan inside the guide, it got 2vlan tag)

Please help.

Adding hostmachine user to VMWare

Hi

I don't seem to get myself around this issue eventhough it seems kind of simple in theory:

1) My hostcomputer is running on Windows 7 with the hostname A\Martin

2) I've hosted a VMWare running Windows Server 2008, which runs with the hostname B\Martin

I've created a web service on 2) which is accessible from 1) -> http://B:port/Service via a web browser.

In order for me to properly communicate with the service and use its API from the host computer 1), I need to add A\Martin to the respective Local Group in 2). Problem is, I can only add Users which are in B and A is not available and can't be found. I have no idea how to proceed. Domain/host A is not visible anywhere in 2).

I'm using a Briged Network connection and Firewalls are all turned off on the VMWare.

Thanks a lot in advance,

Martin

Morning All:

I had to sign up for discussion board to try and get answers to my questions. Hopefully you all can help.

My wife is taking SAS university course online and it needs oracle box or vm player to do it.

I have a 2009 Dell laptop and downloaded everything and I keep getting a VT-X error saying It is not compatible. I spoke with SAS university tech support and thay say it is happening and they say that the VT-X error means it does not have the right chip.

Sooooo, went and bought a brand new laptop yesterday and am getting the same thing. Am I missing something?? Do I need a specific intel chip etc.?

I new computer should run it I would thing.
Hopefully someone can Help

Thanks

Network Bridged mode not showing wifi and ethernet adapters

$

Hi,

I am running VMware Player v6.0.3 on an ASUS (A450JN) laptop running Windows 8.1. I am running windows server 2008 as my guest operating system. I need to use internet on my VM in "networking bridged mode" for one of my classes but I cant access internet in that mode. So I figured that my Bridged mode virtual adapter (vmnet0) may not be configured to bridge my Wifi adapter (Broadcomm 802.11n Network adapter) or my ethernet adapter (Qualcomm Atheros AR8171 GIGABIT PCI-E ethernet adapter). However, when I go into "configure adapters" I only see my bluetooth adapter. I have another ASUS laptop at home which seems to have the same problem and so I have reason to believe that this is a problem with ASUS laptops. To add to that, my friends lenovo thinkpad shows all network adapters in the configure adapters menu. I have also tried using vmnetcfg.exe but I could only see my bluetooth adapter once again. I have attached screenshots of my machine. My laptop is just two weeks old and all drivers are up to date. I have even tried manually updating my drivers but still no luck so far. I even tried to set a static ip address for my local area connection in my VM but that didn't work either. I urgently need a fix for this problem. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Nightwing

VMWare Player Free - Question about error

$

Hi All,

I have a question about the VMWare player free version. I have converted a client's physical server to a virtual machine using the VMWare Converter. I attempted to load this VM using VMWare Player but was unsuccessful, it shot back an error stating that the host machine was not 64-bit enabled and the VM was configured for 64-bit operations. I know this is not the case because the host machine is a Server 2008 R2 system which is 64-bit, and certainly did not disable 64-bit operations. Have any of you ever seen this type of error before, and is there any workaround?

Thank you,

Mike

VMware Player Free installed on a Windows x64 Workstation with two NIC cards

I have the VMware Player Free installed on a Windows x64 Workstation with two NIC cards and two Win x64 Guests. One NIC is connected to a DHCP network with a DHCP Server and the 2nd NIC is connected to a network with no DHCP but Satic IP instead. I have tried every configuration possible in the Network Adapter Configurations -- Bridged, NAT, etc. and can only get one of the Guests to connect to one network at a time. I have also attempted to use vnnetcfg as suggested but it is not available in Player Free. I have looked at the FAQ, Coomunity etc and have tried many different suggested fixes to no avail. Is this type of a setup or configuration possible with Player Free or do I need to purchase VMWare Workstation.

I would like to know if you will be adding more Linux and Windows OS options to VMWare Player.

Linux such as gOS and Windows 10

I have listed quite a few Linux based OS's and would like to know if you will be adding them to VMWare Player for testing. As a Technician I try to learn about OS's linux and others.

VMware Player 6.0.3 - Windows 7 64bit .vmdk Hanging at 'Welcome' Screen

$

I created a Win 7 64bit virtual machine, e.g. computer.vmdk, in VirtualBox.  I cloned computer.vmdk and renamed it system.vmdk.  I can launch both the original computer.vmdk and system.vmdk in VirtualBox.

I copied system.vmdk to a different computer (Win 7 64bit).

I created a new virtual machine in VMware Player and after much configuration tweaking I finally got the virtual machine to boot.  I logged in to the virtual machine using a local account and it's been hung on the Welcome screen for about a 1/2 hour.  The wheel is spinning, as if it's still processing, but I can't imagine that it's working properly when it loads instantaneously from within VirtualBox.

Log file, attached.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm a bit green in the world of virtual systems and I've exhausted Google in trying to find an answer.....  I did find someone else on this board who had the same problem but there was no solution...

Thanks in advance!

Restoring Windows to the state prior to the updates without any other action allows to start the VM's

My conclusion is that the patch breaks VMWare Player or the Windows configuration VMWare player is using.

12 GB RAM is "Not Enough Physical Memory" for a 2 GB Virtual Machine?

$
0
0

I run VMware Player 6.0.3 on 64-bit Windows 8.1. My host computer has 12 GB of physical memory and my virtual machine uses 2 GB of memory. And yet, I cannot start my virtual machine because VMware says "not enough physical memory is available to power on this virtual machine with its configured settings."

According to Windows Task Manager, only 15% of my physical memory is reserved for currently running processes. So how is it possible that I don't have enough RAM to run my virtual machine?
