windows explorer very slow on X64

$

Hello,

I copied two vmware from an X64 machine to another new one. 25 gb each. I use Vmware player 4.0.1 to run them.

My problem is that each click on a folder with windows explorer on the new machine requires about 3 to 5 seconds to execute, back arrow does the same. No problem with previous machine. The second machine is more powerful and has more ram thant the previous one. Windows explorer works correctly with the physical new machine (ie problem is only when running a vm).

I tried shrink, compress, defragt, no change. I enabled Intel VT in Bios. There is no anti antivirus software installed. No CP usage

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks a lot

Olivier

How do I install VMware Player on thumb drive with XP?

Hello,

I go to a college and the laptops are very strict.

I have a Program Management class and we are required, if we do not have own laptop, to have a thumb drive with VMware player with XP and IBM Rhapsody Modeler installed within the XP.

The goal is to go to class, plug thumb drive into college's laptop and access the OS on the thumb drive.

Is this possible to have a stand alone OS on a thumb drive that will work on any PC?

VMWare Player 5.0 bridged network doesn't work

$

I have a laptop with WIndows 7, and connect wireless to the business network. On my host the wireless connection is working fine.

I use VMWare Player 5.0 and have setup a virtual machine with Windows 7, and have set the network adapter to 'bridged' because I would like the virtual machine to be recognized as a separate machine so that I can access all network resources easily.

However, it doesn't work: I don't have any internet and network connectivity in the virtual machine.

I have no idea how to fix this... can someone suggest what I can do to make it work? I already looked for solution, like extracting the Virtual Network Editor from the cab file, but it seems it is not there anymore in version 5... Is it trying to use my wired connection or something, instead of wireless?

(PS - if I use NAT I have internet connection, but I have difficulties in accessing network resources)

Thanks!

EDIT - maybe this is useful - if I go to adapters on the host machine, I see VMNet1 which displays 'Identifying' all the time.

VMware player 5 guest loses network after 1 hour

I have VMware player 5.0.0 running on Windows 7 x64, the guest VM is 32-bit Windows XP. The guest network is bridged.

After an hour of use, the network within the VM stops working. By that I mean that Windows XP starts trying to do what looks like a DHCP, then eventually gives up and says that the network connection has limited connectivity (which is an understatement). doing a DHCP release/renew doesn't work, disabling the NIC via Windows XP just seems to cause the ncpa.cpl dialogue to hang. The NIC is a VMware accelerated AMD PCnet (not my choice, but I can't see how to change the type in VMware Player...).

My DHCP lease time is 1 hour, but I don't understand why a renew would fail when it has clearly got an address quite happily when booted up.

For now I've changed the lease time to 8 hours which I hope will make the problem go away... assuming it is somehow DHCP related.

Don't suppose anyone has any ideas?

VMware Player 5.0.0 Caps & Num leds don't light on

Hi all,

I have just upgraded to VMware Player 5.0.0. It works fine, but I notice this little problem: caps lock and num lock keys leds don't light on anymore in guest OS when pressing respective keys.

Guest OS Windows XP 32 bit working full screen; Host OS Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit. In host OS every led works fine, even with VMs running in background.

Host PC: Acer Aspire 5820TG laptop with Italian keyboard including numeric keypad.

Is there any workaround/fix?

Thanks everybody,

Gianfranco

Solved: Vmware player / workstation installation blank screen

$

Hello everybody, i just want to share with you another possible cause for the vmware installation blank screen problem. i had it for a while (prob since version 7 of vmware), yesterday i downloaded the trial for version 9 and the problem was still there. so i tried to look on the community forum and found some advices about regediting or using regserv32 to fix stuff in windows. none of them worked.

so, i tried to change my temp directory (through the windows environment variable control form) without using the %CURRENTUSER%, setting it to just c:\temp (and setting also the permission for this folder) and the problem is now gone.

i suspect this is due my username that contains a  '  in it, so if you are having the blank screen installation issue, and none of the solution proposed is working it could be some strange characters in the username, those probably are messing up js scripts.

"Catfish"

How can I get a stand alone VMware Player & OS on a thumb drive that I can use on any PC?

hi. I am new to VMW. I want to install fedora usng VM player on my external HD.

I have downloaded an .iso file of fedora.

At the time when installation begins in the VM player it prompts with a message "A fault has occurred causing a virtual CPU to enter the shutdown state. If this fault had occurred outside of a virtual machine, it would have caused the physical machine to restart. The shutdown state can be reached by incorrectly configuring the virtual machine, a bug in the guest operating system, or a problem in VMware Player.Click OK to restart the virtual machine or Cancel to power off the virtual machine."

I have tried installation with VM player 4 also but error is the same. may b  i am missing any configuration...

pls help..you can reply me at simranz_88@yahoo.com

basic installation - how to run?

Hi

Sorry for starters as I'm a newbie to VMware and relatively basic on Linux (everyone needs to start somewhere!).

I have Linux Redhat 6.3 enterprise. I have Vmware Player 5.0.0. Installation of VMware seemed to run fine, no errors. After install I can't seem to figure out how to run VMWare! I'm left with a Linux prompt and am not sure how we start VMware so I can attempt to install the guest OS (Win 2003). I installed VMware into the "etc" directory (rightly or wrongly?), and from there I see 3 x sub-dir's of "VMWare", "VMware-installer", and "VMware-vix". If I go into the VMware directory I can run the following command -

vmware-installer -l       and this shows I have VMware 5.0.0 installed.

If I run setup (Redhat options) it shows system services that auto-start to include VMware and VMware-USB arbitrator (whatever that is!).

Can anyone offer any simple to understand advice here?

Thanks v.v. much - losing lots of hair here (or gaining lots of grey!)
