I am using the VMWare Player 12.5.2 build-4638234 on my Debian Linux 8.x host.

I have a Windows XP (with SP3) guest VM, where firewall is disabled. Network connection is set to NAT.

The problem is: I can access internet on HTTP-port (80) without problem (e.G. google works), but I can't acces any HTTPS internet sites.

Can You please help me to resolve this issue?

    Thanks in advance.

Hello. I have downloaded and installed VMware Workstation 12.5.1 Player (the file is VMware-player-12.5.1-4542065.exe) in Windows 10.

I have chosen the free version for non-commercial use. But Virtual Network Editor is not included in WMware Player any more !

Thus, I need to extract Virtual Network Editor from VMware Workstation Pro 12.5.

I have downloaded and installed VMware Workstation Pro 12.5 in Windows 10.

    The file is VMware-workstation-full-12.5.2-4638234.exe.

The trial version is 30 days.

In the install directory of Trial version VMware Workstation Pro 12.5, I can run the Virtual Network Editor by running the file vmnetcfg.exe.

Now, we can assign Virtual Network Editor vmnetcfg.exe to VMPlayer 12.5 by editing .vmx file. But I don't understand how to assign the Virtual Network Editor to VMPlayer 12.5. I have 2 Virtual Machines running in VMware Player 12.5.

    My question is:

How to assign Virtual Network Editor (vmnetcfg.exe) in VMwareWorkstationPro12.5 to VMPlayer 12.5 by editing .vmx file ?

    Thanks in advance.

As I found out I can NOT boot a (bootable) winOS DVD in a VM with Linux guestOS.

More precisely: I can boot but cannot use network resp. Internet connection.

When I boot the same WinOS-DVD in a VM with WinOS guestVM everything is fine and I can use Internet.

It seems to me that the network related parameters in the underlying *.vmx file are guestOS specific and cannot be used
by booted DVD from another OS world. This is surprising.

I thought a booting DVD OS is completely independent from the environment (as in real world).
But this is not the case.

Are there any generic, OS-independent network vmx parameters which let me boot (and use Internet) ALL DVDs regardless which OS world they come from?

The Windows 10 release on July 29 is shaping up to be one of the most-anticipated Microsoft software releases in recent memory. CIOs and consumers alike are getting excited about the software update that is loaded with enterprise-ready and innovative features. The new system will bring together a single operating system for both Windows mobile devices and traditional PCs. This is a game changer for enterprise mobility management. With Windows 10, IT admins can take advantage of the full management capabilities from the same console on all Windows devices regardless if they are mobile devices or PCs.

With dozens of updates, new features and applications added to the operating system, here’s a list of the top 10 things IT pros should know about the Windows 10 release:

    1. Microsoft is making EMM the standard management for all devices. With Windows 10, EMM becomes the defacto standard in managing all Windows devices. It is the first truly mobile operating system from Windows and showcases Microsoft’s commitment to unified endpoint management. With Windows 10, all Windows devices can be managed with an enterprise mobility management solution, like AirWatch.

    2. Devices can be set up for an “out of the box” experience. With Windows 10, users are guided through the setup process and streamlined through EMM enrollment the first time they power on the device. Native single sign-on capabilities and Azure Active Directory integration will also make setup, management and use of the devices easier for IT and end-users alike.

    3. Windows 10 redefines traditional imaging. New runtime provisioning modernizes traditional deployment use cases. Runtime provisioning will allow IT to configure general devices without needing to re-image for organizational use.

    4. Universal apps will be available in the Windows Store. Just as the operating system is designed to be consistent across devices, Microsoft is unifying the app experience across all devices. One Windows Store for all Windows devices will ease the application development process with universal apps that work across phones, tablets and computers. The new, unified Windows Store will be enterprise ready and organizations will also be able to fully control the Store features and distribution using AirWatch-management services. This includes the ability to install and uninstall apps, control app updates and manage app licenses.

    5. It will feature a new Internet browser.Microsoft Edge is the new browser that will replace Internet Explorer on Windows 10 devices. Edge integrates with Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual personal assistant, and is marketed as faster, modern, contextual and personalized.

    6. Biometrics will be integrated and automated. Through the introduction of Windows Hello and Passport, Microsoft is fundamentally integrating biometric technology into the software. Windows Hello will provide biometric authentication into a user’s device through fingerprint, face or iris detection. Passport is an authentication feature that IT can use to replace passwords on various apps and services integrated with Azure Active Directory. Windows 10 will authenticate the user on his or her behalf, eliminating the need for passwords. Microsoft is calling the level of security for these biometrics “enterprise-grade” and hence, approved for use on enterprise devices, applications and systems.

    7. Intelligent update schedules with Windows Update for Business. Windows 10 will introduce a smart system for deploying updates to enterprise users with Windows Update for Business. This new program allows IT to control the deployment schedule for feature and security updates on enterprise devices. According to Blogging Windows, Windows Update for Business will provide:

    • Distribution rings, where IT can determine waves of device updates to work out quality issues.
    • Maintenance windows, where IT can set timeframes when updates should and should not occur.
    • Peer to peer delivery, for branch offices and remote sites with limited bandwidth for more efficient delivery updates.
    • Integration with your existing tools like enterprise mobility management providers for continued management from a “single pane of glass.”

    8. It introduces advanced security features and policies. Microsoft has introduced several advanced security features new to Windows 10.  Device Guard, one of these new features, will give organizations the ability to lock down devices against malware. A company can identify what apps it considers to be trustworthy and automatically block malicious applications that do not meet the organization’s standards. Secure Boot updates will only allow trusted software to load when a device is turned on, while Health Attestation will allow IT to determine the health of an enterprise-managed device and take compliance actions when necessary.

    9. Enterprise Data Protection progresses DLP across operating systems. Windows’ advanced DLP system, Enterprise Data Protection, will be integrated into the Windows 10 software, protect data at the file-system level and be transparent for users. Windows 10 DLP will also differentiate between corporate and personal data on the device and IT will have the ability to classify data, domains and apps as “corporate.”

    10. AirWatch will support Windows 10. AirWatch customers have grown accustomed to managing all device types and operating systems from the single AirWatch management console, and soon customers can manage Windows 10 devices as well.

The Windows 10 is a massive update for Microsoft as it is slated to bring greater simplicity, security and user functionality to the millions of Windows device users across the globe. Stay tuned for more updates on AirWatch support for Windows 10.

    Hi Community,

I'm trying to map a custom attribute value to be the Account value of a vpn profile.

Actually i can't find a way to do that.

custom attribute value are not offered under the supported lookup fields list.

Is there a way to add a custom attribute to that support lookup filed list or do I need to missuse another standard lookup field for that?

    Thx for your help anyways.

  • 10/18/13--01:29: Unrecoverable error (svga)
  • Hi folks

I'm experiencing some problems with my VMs. For testing purposes of my application (Modify images with Pixelshaders) I've set up a Vista, a Win7, and Win8 VM. But as soon as i launch my app, VMware Player crashes with an unrecoverable error (svga). See attached image.

    Unrecoverable error (svga)

Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) has occured.

My host system: Windows 7 x64

    Videocard. Nvidia Quadro FX580

Driver: latest recommended Nvidia driver (320.92)

I can disable graphic acceleration in VM settings for solving the issue, but this way I loose all my graphic capabilities inside the VM.

On other hardware (ATI graphics) everything works fine, so I suppose it's a Nvidia specific issue.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

I'm trying to install VMware Player in OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, updated to the latest version, which provides kernel 4.6.

After running vmplayer, I get a window showing an error: "A compatible version of gcc was not found."

After clicking OK in that window, I get a new window with another warning: "GNU C Compiler (gcc) version 6.1.1 was not found.".

However, if I do gcc --version, I get the following, that shows I've got the latest gcc.

    gcc (SUSE Linux) 6.1.1 20160615 [gcc-6-branch revision 237474]

Copyright (C) 2016 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

This is free software; see the source for copying conditions.  There is NO

Even if I search for the gcc directory (given by whereis gcc) the problem doesn't go away.

How can I install VMware Player, then?

My ubuntu 14.04 VM isn't seeing the entire disk for some reason. If I go into the "virtual Machine Settings" and go to the disk, here's what it says:

    Current size: 3.9 GB

    System free: 373.2 GB

    Maximum size: 20 GB

But when I go into ubuntu and look in the system monitor, it says that I have a total of 4.2 GB, used 3.7GB and only have 207.5MB free.

This clearly isn't right. What's going on? This basically means my VM is unusable for all intents and purposes.

My host OS is Windows 10.

Hello. My new computer host machine is Windows 10. I am running VMware workstation Player 12.5.

I have just copied the folder of a VM Guest machine Windows XP from another computer host Windows 7 to the new computer Windows 10.

In the host machine Windows 10, internet is working successfully, but the guest machine Windows XP cannot connect with Internet.

If the guest machine Windows XP is created in host Windows 10, the VM is automatically set up in host machine Network center.

The VM is connected with internet automatically.

Because the VM guest Windows XP is copied from another computer host Windows 7, the VM is not in host Windows 10 network center. I think we need to add the VM into host Windows 10 network center manually. But I don't know how to do it. It seems that VMware Player 12.5 doesn't install Network Adapter in Windows 10.

    My question is:

How to have VM guest Windows XP connect with internet in host Windows 10 ?

    Thanks in advance.

Suddenly, hard drive is full and the VM is no longer working.  Says ourfile.vmx is not a valid configuration file although it was working fine.  I think the .vmx file must be corrupt and has filled up my hard drive but I have no idea what to do or how to fix it.  I'm using VM player 5.0.2.  Can anyone help me?

I am just asking if anybody who runs VMplayer can use that feature?

    how to check:

inside windows VM go to Start > Default Programs > Set default program > Chose "Default Host Application" to open http/https URLs

then open any application inside VM for example Outlook with any external URL and click on that URL, (or just run this in CMD window: C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools>VMwareHostOpen.exe --url

    there should be 2 options:

    1) URL will be opened in default browser on your Host Machine

    2) you will get error like: "Make sure the virtual machine's configuration allows the guest to open host applications"

please give me your results with guest and host OS you are running, thanks!

  • 11/15/16--09:50: Networking Questions
  • The host OS is Windows 7 HOME edition, 64 bit, and I have VMWare Workstation 12 Player installed running Win XP as the virtual machine.

I am not having success getting my network printer to connect to the virtual machine. It is a HP 8600. Printer setup on the XP machine asks for an IP address for the printer but (as far as I can tell) there is none.

I also would like to know if I can get the host OS to detect the contents of the virtual OS, and vice versa. Win 7 HOME apparently does not have network support, I think?

Hello. I have just downloaded VMware Workstation 12.5.1 Player (the file is VMware-player-12.5.1-4542065.exe). I have installed this file in Windows 10. I have chosen the free version for non-commercial use.  But this file doesn't install any Virtual Switch in Windows 10.

According to VMware Workstation Player documentation, it creates up to 20 Virtual Switches on a Windows Host machine.

VMware Workstation Player 12.5.1 should install the virtual switches "VMnet0", "VMnet1" and "VMnet8" in Windows 10 for configuring network Bridged, Host-only and NAT. I run the command "ipconfig" in Windows 10 as below:

    C:\user\MyName> ipconfig

    Its output:

    Ethernet adapter Ethernet 2:

    Media State: Media Disconnected

    Connection-specific DNS Suffix:

Wireless LAN adapter Local Area Connection *2:

    Media State: Media Disconnected

    Connection-specific DNS Suffix:

    Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network Connection:

    Media State: Media Disconnected

    Connection-specific DNS Suffix:

    Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi:

    Media State: Media Disconnected

    Connection-specific DNS Suffix: domain.actdsltmp

    Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface:

As you see the output above, there is no virtual switch VMnet0, VMnet1 and VMnet8. I am not surethe free version for non-commercial useof VMware Workstation Player 12.5.1 install virtual switches or not.

    My questions are:

    1) Does the downloaded file  VMware-player-12.5.1-4542065.exe  free version for non-commercial use install virtual switches ?

    2) How to have VMnet0, VMnet1 and VMnet8 come up in Windows 10 so that we can configure the network for Guest machines ?

    Thanks in advance.

If the audio device/s change while a VM is running, the VM will not automatically switch to the default device, nor does it update the list of available audio devices, effectively disabling all audio completely until the next player restart.

I've found that 3D graphics performance in VMware Workstation Player 12.1.0 is very slow, making games unplayable.

I have downgraded to VMware Player 6.0.7 & the performance is brilliant.

Has anyone else experienced this & are VMware aware of it?

  • 11/18/16--13:15: Upgrading from Player 5.02
  • I am in the process of reinstalling my Windows 7 on a second Disc.  I have VMPlayer 5.02  currently running on my other Disc  I could just reinstall 5.02 but was wondering if I should try the latest 12.5 version My VM is for Widows XP and the way I did this last time was to simply copy my existing copy of C:\Program Files\Windows XP mode  before opening the newly installed VMPLayer  Would this be the same for 12.5 or are there any other considerations  And of course are my current Virtual machines created in 5.02 compatable with the latest 12.5

My vmware player does not show gest machines in the library. My troubleshooting suggests its a permissions error on whereever the library data is stored.

When I try to open a guest machine  the player does not show the  guest in the inventory pane of the  player. However I can run  vmplayer /path/to/machine.vmx and the machine  will open execute  properly.

When  I run vmware player as root (or even a regular user) it works   correctly - so it seems clearly tied to my user account. I have tried rm  -rf ~/.vmware and rerunning the player but I  get the same behavior.

The problem happens with all guest machines - so it does not appear to be related to anything about a machine itself.

Does anyone know where vmware player stores the inventory data? Nothing in the  ~/.vmware directory seems to be related to this, but the library data must be persisted somewhere. Where is this file?

    I'm running vmware player 3.1.3 build-324285 on Ubuntu Linux  2.6.31-22-generic-pae Ubuntu 9.10.

    Thanks for any help.

  • 11/25/16--05:33: VM window size config
  • Where is the config file for current size of a VM (powered on) window?

I want to create multiple VMs and have them all at exact same size (1366x768), so i want to duplicate this config file for the other VMs since it's pretty troublesome to resize them manually to 1366x768.
