I am using VMware Player version 5 with tools installed on Windows 7 Professional. I want to drag files (PDFs) from the VM(guest) to Windows 7(host). I can drag/drop from host to guest but not other way around. Is this supposed to be possible to do?

GuestRpcSendTimedOut: message to toolbox-dnd timed out.

Hello folks,

I have a 64-bit Core i5 PC with Windows 7.  I have VMware Player 6.0.0 and installed Ubuntu desktop 12.04.3.  Everything was working fine in the virtual Ubuntu machine.  The virtual machine was then shutdown, and the PC was shutdown too.  When boot up PC again and play the virtual machine, it stuck on the Ubuntu startup screen with the dots in red color.  Looking at the log file the last line is "vmx| I120: GuestRpcSendTimedOut: message to toolbox-dnd timed out."  It just stuck there.  Any clue as to how to resolve this issue?

I have done the same setup in 2 other laptops (a Lenovo and a Toshiba) also with Windows 7 and never encountered such issue.  This is a new laptop I just bought (HP EliteBook Folio 9470m).

The full vmware.log file is attached.

Thanks

Henry

Why is VMNAT.EXE eating up my cpu?

$

I have VMwarePlayer 5.0.2 installed on Win 7 SP1, fully updated.

I have a Linux Mint KDE 13 (now 14, see below) installed as a guest O/S.

I see the following behaviour: after a period of browsing VMnat.exe use goes up to 25% on the host CPU (Intel 5 dual core with multi threading, 2nd gen).  Even after I boot off the guest Mint the vmnat.exe process stays at 25% with several mintues, until I kill it (It doesn't seem to want to, say, finish some work and go away).

I completely reinstalled Win 7, VMwarePlayer 5.0.2 and installed Mint KDE 14 instead of Mint KDE 13 as guest.  Makes no difference.  (I have declared these O/S's as Ubuntu to the player.)

I thought that maybe I could solve the problem by giving the guest only one core (of the 4 logical cores) but that only brought the cpu usage up to 45%.  Even if I close the vmware player, the vmnat.exe process continues to eat up 25% (or 45%) of cpu.

I find that I can kill the vmnat.exe process in the host when it has this heavy cpu usage without even booting off the guest.  After a bit, the guest will continue to work and access the Internet without vmnat.exe cpu usage showing up again.  But I would rather not have to keep track of cpu usage of vmnat.exe manually.  I would like to fix this issue.

I saw through googling that running vmnetui.dll as an app using rundll32.exe in an administrator acct would allow me to reset the network config--which some people seem to think might solve the problem, or at least a related problem.  However, I can't get rundll32 to run vmnetui.  I get a message, 'The operating system cannot run %1'.  I added the VMware path to the path environment variable and double-checked but it makes no difference.  This is before and after win7 system reinstallation.

Now I really don't need to fiddle with the network (the setting is NAT to share the host's IP address).  The connection is a 2.5 MByte wireless connection which doesn't seem to present any problems.  My only issue is the detected heavy cpu usage by vmnat.exe even when the guest is idling or shut down.  My only interest in vmnetui is as a possible means to fix vmnat.exe so that it doesn't have this heavy cpu usage.

Would appreciate some suggestions how to solve the high CPU usage problem.  Thanks very much.

Why I uninstalled VMWare Player

I installed VMWare Player free version a few months ago, mostly to see if it is a good replacement for MS Virtual PC. My use is purely personal. Upon launching VMWare Player today I was prompted to upgrade to version 6.0. Simple enough until I got to the EULA agreement (Yes, I took the time to read it - corporate lawyers hate it when you read EULAs). Section 5, which is not superseded by the open source license and has no exclusion for personal use, prompted me to decline the EULA and uninstall the software.

In short, the EULA requires you to maintain a record of how you use the software. If you don't maintain the records and they decide to audit you (granted, this may be unlikely), you are liable for the cost of the audit even if you are using the software in compliance with the EULA.

5. AUDIT RIGHTS.

5.1 Records. You will, during the License Term for any Software licenses acquired under this EULA (and for a period of two (2) years from the expiration of the applicable License Term), maintain accurate records of your use of the Software sufficient to demonstrate Your compliance with the terms of this EULA and all Orders.

5.2 Audit Rights.During the period in which the You are obligated to maintain such records, VMware, or its third party auditor, may, upon reasonable notice to You, audit such records to verify that You have (a) used the Software solely in the manner authorized herein; (b) paid all applicable license fees; and (c) otherwise complied with the terms of this EULA and all Orders. VMware may conduct no more than one (1) audit in any twelve (12) month period. Audits will be conducted during normal business hours and VMware will use commercially reasonable efforts to minimize the disruption of Your normal business activities. VMware, and any third-party auditor, shall not have physical access to Your computing devices in connection with any such audit, without Your prior written consent. You will reasonably cooperate with VMware and/or its third-party auditor and will promptly pay directly to VMware any underpayments revealed by such audit. You will promptly reimburse VMware for all reasonable costs and expenses incurred by VMware for such audit if: such audit reveals an underpayment by You of more than five percent (5%) of the fees payable by You to VMware for the period audited, or (ii) such audit reveals You have materially failed to maintain accurate records of Your use of the Software.

No network connection on guest

Hello,

My Win7 guest can't connect to the network, it complains about a unpluged ethernet cable. No network problem on host. It used to work until I upgraded the host from Win8 to 8.1 (not sure if that's the reason). Pinging localhost on the guest works OK. Any ideas?

Vmware player stops working (freezes)

Hello VmWare community,

I would like some help.

I'am using Vmware player(6.0.0 build-1295980) with installed Vmware Tolls (9.6.0, build -1294478) on Windows Server 2008 R2 with guest operating system Windows XP SP 2.

I've had this problem(freezing vmware player) a while ago, but updating vmware player from the first when I started to use to the newer ones seemed to do the job. The reason because I'm using the vmware player inside a windows server because some programs do not have working versions on server, so instead I had to improvise. And another reason is that those programs are using GSM modems.

Now, the vmware player stops (just freezes). I can attach a vmware log, from that point when the freeze happens. Maybe it can help for some of You to understand why it is happening. Because Google gave no answer

Virtual Ethernet Adapter no network access after upgrade from Win 8 to Win 8.1?

Hi,

I had been running vmplayer 6 on a Windows 8 pc (with hyper-v disabled) no problem. After the recent upgrade to Windows 8.1 (on the host), the client OS (XP) lost all network connectivity and listed the network connection as unplugged. The network adapter config (advanced) does not display any adapters. When I checked the host adapters, the VMWare Virtual Ethernet adapter is listed as "Unidentified Network" with "No Network Access". I'm not sure how to remove or re-add the vmware virtual adapter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

hello everybody,

I have an issue with VMPlayer 6.0.0 build-1295980,

Player run on Windows 7 32bit real machine, I've installed a VM with Linux Mint14.

I develop a simple application that sendMulticast messages, and another one that recive messages.

The problem is that multicast packet seems to don't enter/exit from VMPlayer. if I run both sender and reciver in Linux they are able to exchange messages on multicast group, but i I run, for example, sender inside Linux VM and receiver on Win7 rel Machine, they can't "talk'???

VMWare Lan is configured as Bridget and win7 and Linux can ping both side.

Have you got any ideas??

I have to enable something??

Thank's a lot

Can't change DNS servers on Ubuntu Guest

Hi,

I've got a Windows 7 Pro Box running VMware player running a Ubuntu 12 and a Ubuntu 13 guest.

The other day I was prompted to upgrade to the latest VM player , which I did and then my Ubuntu12 VM lost it's network connections. Never mind I thought I as I wanted a clean install after messing around with disk volumes so I just downloaded Ubuntu 13 and put a clean install on. Leaving the network connections as default and it works ok. If I try setting the network connections manually on the either VM and they fail to connect to any webpage or respond to any pings.

Any idea ?

TIA

Dave

On VMware player v5.0.2 (or any other version), is there a way to prevent the virtual machine from seeing ALT-TAB, so that the host OS will process ALT-TAB ?

Does the Free VMPlayer 6.00 inludes VMware tools?

Hello,

I am using VMPLayer 6.00 in linux.  I tried to load the vmware player tools iso image but it seems to not exist.

I ran sudo mount /dev/cdrom /mnt and got an error that no medium was found.

I was searching online but got nowhere. However, I did see something about a license key needed to activate additional features on vmplayer. Is this the cause of the vmware player tools not being loaded?

I appreciate any replies. Thanks

VNC connection enabled virtual machine running in VMWare Player but VNC client does not connect

Hi

We have Windows 7 (64bit) host where is VMWare Player 5.0.1 build-894247 installed and registered.

Quest operating system is also Windows 7 (64bit) created with VMWare Workstation  9.0.2 build-1031769. Virtual machine is encrypted and restricted. There is VNC connection enabled, set port 5902 and also password set. Network Adapter is in NAT state. These all settings has been done with Workstation.

When starting VM in host with player we got information where was said that VNC connection is enabled and do we want to start it anyway (in first start not after that).

When trying to connect with RealVNC client to address hostip:2 we get message box: "unable to connect to host: Connection refused (10061)".

Where problem could be? We had this kind solution before (windows were XP in both host and quest and workstation and player older version and now doing update to newer windows) and then it worked well.

I am new to VMWare and this keeps popping up:

When trying to install VMware Tools for a Windows guest download progress gets stuck at 0%. Similarly if I click "Check for updates" it doesn't seem to be able to connect to softwareupdate.vmware.com and the connection status keeps saying "Connecting...". Is the update server down? And are there other ways to install VMware Tools? I'm using VMware Player 6.0 for Linux.update.png

VMWare was previousl running fine, and then suddenly crashed. I tried removing the app and reinstalling, but am continually unable to open a VM using "appliance50-19-vmware.

I've been getting the above errmsg when trying to get a VM on my pc (OS: WinXP pro), followed by:

NOT_REACHED d:/build/ob/bora-1379776/bora/vmcore/vmx/main/hostDisasm.c:758.

(I've made multiple attempts at removing both the player and the appliance, but continues to fail.

The log is as follows and any suggestions to correct the problem would be appreciated:

I know I did this in the past, but i just downloaded and installed VMWare player and there is no button to "create virtual machine". How do I create a guest? I am running Win 7x64 Host and trying to install Mint as guest.

Thanks.

How to remove the uncompleted copying file "myfolder" from VM W2K3 or from host Win7 ?

Folks,

Hello. I am using VM Player 3. Host OS is Windows 7 and VM is Windows Server 2003.

I copy a 22GB file "myfolder" from VM W2K3 to Host Win7 because Hard disk in Host Win 7 only have 25 GB. During copying the file, a message comes up as below:

"It requires additional 22GB to copy your file".

I click CANCEL button. But the file is not gone. The uncompleted copying file is still in the VM and occupied 22GB disk space in VM W2K3 or in Host Wind 7.

My question is:

How to remove the uncompleted copying file "myfolder" from VM W2K3 or from host Win7 ?

Thanks.
