VMware Player Still Freezes with 6.0.1

I installed 6.0.0 and ever since the my VMs continue to freeze up at various times, until they become unusable.I upgraded to 6.0.1 and that, according to the release notes, is supposed to resolve any freeze ups. They still are happening. I downgraded to 5.0.1 and now no freezing. Any one else having this same issue?

3 Minuten bis zum Start einer virtuellen Maschine

Hallo,

ich verwende Windows 7 Prof. 32 bit und VMware Player 6.0.1 mit diversen virtuellen Maschinen (u.a. XP SP3, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, Windows 7 Enterprise).

Lan does not work on player 6.01

Hello,

Having virtualized a PC working under Vista 32 via Converter Stand Alone I wanted to run it on a PC working under Windows 7 via Player 6.01. The virtualized PC works except the Network connection (detected card but no driver recognized by the player 6.01 in spite of the installation of tools).

About is the defined card I have a code error 10.

Somebody has you he a solution to this problem.

Upgrade to Player 6.0.1 causes Ctrl-Alt-Enter (fullscreen shortcut) to break

Upgraded from Player 5 to v6.0.1 (Win 7 Pro x64 host, Ubuntu 12.04 x64 guest). Now, it boots up the guest in fullscreen mode, but with a small desktop. I *think* it sometimes did this on Player 5, but a couple of Ctrl-Alt-Enters (out-of / back-into fullscreen mode) fixed it.

With Player 6.0.1, Ctrl-Alt-Enter shortcut no longer works (at all), and I have to use the toolbar icon (which works). When I exit the VM (returning to the VM library screen), this window is now as though it was a VM itself (in fullscreen mode with drop-down toolbar; in Player 5 it was just a normal Windows window, which is what it still is in 6.0.1 until you close the VM). When in this state, I *can* Ctrl-Alt-Enter to return it to a normal window and close it. It's as though the VM library window has somehow become a pseudo-VM which is the target for the Ctrl-Alt-Enter shortcut instead of the running VM.

I tried it with 'Return to the VM library after closing a virtual machine' unchecked, but the problem remains.

Anyone else having this issue? Is this a known 6.0.1 issue? Any way of re-enabling Ctrl-Alt-Enter.

Thanks.

Stuart

USB printer not recognized;administrator password required to install

Hi,

i read the vmware player manual and it seems easy to install a new usb printer to virtual machine, but it's not.

I have windows xp as guest and windows 7 as host. The printer is a Kyocera fs-1120D (successfully installed on the host os).

Printer is installed in the Player Settings panel.

The usb printer is connected (from the Player > Removable devices menu )

When i plug-in the printer the guest OS new hardware found wizard start but it ask me for administator credential to install the new found printer (the manual doesn't mention that).

But even if i insert administration credential, the printer driver is not installed (i get an unknown drver error).

In the guest printers list i see a Kyocera fs-1120D printer followed by #11. But printing from it doesn't work.

The only way to print from vm is to send print to the #11 printer and then disconnect it from the player (removable devices> FS-1020D > disconnect).

Only after that the printer prints.

How can i solve this?

Player 6 blocks udp communication on host

Hi,

Have searched the forum but I guess I'm not smart enough to find the answer .

I have a number of laptops (Win 7-64)  that use an Eclipse application that sends out a udp broadcast to find another type of host application locally or on the network. This works perfectly without VMware player installed. As soon as I install VMware Player (application only, I have no virtual machines) the Eclipse application cannot find any of the other applications on the network, only the ones local on the same host.

I don't know if this has something to do with VMware not being bridged but as far as I understand I cannot configure this since I have no virtal machines.

Can anyone give me hint on what is going on?

Thanks in advance

Network Config still there after uninstalling VMware Player

Hello All,

I have a Win 7 Enterprise 64 bit system that was running VMware Player 6.0. I added a second physical NIC and VMware Player configured it as an interface with a host address of .1 on a Host Only network. When configuring static IP on the new NIC, the VMware IP configuration kept showing up and causing grief so I tried the following:

- disabled the Windows Network Connections representing the virtual networks

- deleted the Host Only network

- uninstalling VMware Player

- manually removing all traces of the offending network and VMware Player from the registry

Unfortunately, the VMware IP configuration is still showing up on the NIC. You can probably guess that I'm going through that much effort to try to avoid rebuilding the machine. If anyone has an idea of how I can free the NIC from the VMware IP config, I'll be extremely grateful.

Thanks for any help provided.

VM's not starting on W8.1 host

I just got a new Acer Ultrabook with a Core i5, and in addition to the integrated Intel graphics, it also has a dedicated GeForce 750m.

I installed VMWare Player, without any errors. But when I try to start any VM, with an ISO selected or not, the VM never boots. I don't even get the VMWare logo "bios", it's just a black screen, and the Play/Pause/Stop button is greyed out. If I try to close out of VMWare it says the machine is busy. I have to end vmware-vmx.exe from the task manager.

The log (attached) shows several unrecoverable errors. I've tried running Vmware player as Administrator, and also tried changing permissions on C:\ProgramData\VMware to full control for everyone.

Any ideas? I've tried creating a Windows-based and Linux-based VM, and also tried setting the NVidia settings to use the dedicated video card. I've also completely reinstalled VMWare.

Hi,

My problem is with a risk of wiping out a whole paritition of my HD if I install a linux distro that is not from the VMware Marketplace. In other words, if the distro is meant to be a standalone OS, will it install without creating any damage to the partition were the ubuntu server files will be copied?

Thanks

VMCI installation for VMware Player

    Hello All,

Is it possible to install VMCI tool for Vmware player 5? Where can I get the installation software.

In the VMware player there is an option to to add a network adapter. To make a network communication (NAT, Bridged, Host-Only, LAN) do we need VMCI or is VMware Player itself sufficient?

Thanks

Player Plus 6 / VmRun Question

I would like to do the following:
          1) create a VM using workstation 10 that has multiple snapshots.

          2) deploy this VM to a computer with Player Plus 6 & VIX installed

          3) use vmrun.exe to change the VM to a different snapshot on the machine with player plus and VIX installed

Does player plus allow the snapshot to be changed using vmrun.exe?

VMware virtual network adapters (VMNet1 VMNet8) and VPN

I use Windows 8 Enterprise edition in my business laptop. Since VMware Player version 6 (I tried also VMware Workstation 10 and 10.0.1 trial) there is a problem with my office VPN, which I use to connect to my office WAN.

That VPN is Direct Access type, Tereso based and it is using only IPV6. When both virtual VMware network adapters are enabled, my VPN can't connect. It is in endless 'connecting' state. When I disable both cards, switch them off,

WAN is connecting successfully. I don't know if it is a problem with WMware or with Windows 8, but maybe someone of you experienced the same behaviour?

VIX vmrun can only stop or suspend a VM if run by Windows 7 user with admin rights

$

Very new to VMWare, so I'm hoping someone can spot something obvious. I've googled this til I'm turning in circles but can't find any documentation to help me resolve the issue.

I'm working on a Windows 7 laptop which will be ultimately despatched to staff in our department who will not have admin rights.

Temporarily I do have admin rights, and I've installed VMWare Player, and can use vmrun.exe from VIX to start, stop or suspend the VM with no problems at all. The vmx file is in a public directory.

When I log out of the laptop, and one of the other staff in the department log on, the VIX script to start the VM works normally, and "vmrun.exe list" shows "Total running VMs: 1" and lists the vmx file as expected.

However, sending a 'suspend' or 'stop' command to vmrun results in "Error: The virtual machine is not powered on". The non-privileged user can use the VMWare Player GUI to suspend the VM.

I've set the 'Unidentified network' (which the VMWare Network Adapter VMNet1 and VMWare Network Adapter VMNet8 are both connected to, in the Network and Sharing Center) to be a private (work) network, using the Local Security Policy. For good measure, I've also added the vmrun.exe (Virtual machine automation tool) to the Windows firewall, for all three network types, and also enabled the VMWare Authd service for all three network types. This is obviously overkill, but it hasn't helped anyway.

So, why does a script which runs successfully when I am logged on, return the above error when run by anyone else? And why does this only affect the suspend or shutdown process?

Any pointers anyone can suggest will be gratefully accepted.

Nick
