Hi,

I installed Windows 8.1 Pro x64 RTM with GA Rollup A on PC, after that I installed VMware Player 6.0.1 and when I tried to download and install VMware Tools, I got the following error: « CDS internal client error (3033). Contact VMware Support or your system administrator ».

How can I install such tools? Please, fix the issue with CDS server, I need to install VMware Tools.

I tried to download them on CDS Repository - /www/stage/session-32/cds/vmw-desktop/player but there is no folder for VMware Player 6.0.1 version, while tools-windows-9.6.0.exe.tar is in a strange format, how can I install these tools in VMware Player?

Thanks.

Deacivate XP to use it again?

Hi All,

Not sure what has happened (no doubt my fault) but my VM installation of winXP as gone to full size (40GB) on the HDD.

I couldn't believe I had filled it up so I installed XP in a new VM next to the existing XP and it is currently showing 3GB. I will install the few things I need to run on this new XP VM, but it is showing "30-days left to activate."

How do I deactivate the old 40GB XP so that I can then activate the new one?

Thanks

Deny Guest Internet access?

Hi,

Any simple way to prevent any Internet access from any programs within the Guest?

I tried disabling the Guest TCP/IP but that then prevented me from using the shared folders back to the Host.

There is no way I can use the Firewall as the kids may change firewalls or browsers if they have Internet access.

WHEA-Logger warnings only with VMWare Player

0
0

Since building my new Haswell 7x64 system on 6/26, I've found several warnings like this one in my Event Viewer log, and I've determined they coincide exactly with the times I ran VMs for Windows 8.1 and 7:

*****

Log Name:      System

Source:        Microsoft-Windows-WHEA-Logger

Date:          7/18/2013 1:31:03 PM

Event ID:      19

Task Category: None

Level:         Warning

Keywords:

User:          LOCAL SERVICE

Computer:      ---

Description:

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core

Error Source: Corrected Machine Check

Error Type: Internal parity error

Processor ID: 2

*****

The computer has been in heavy use 16 hours a day since I built it on 6/26. However, these warnings have been generated only during the times I was running VMs for Windows 8.1 and 7, and those times have been infrequent and of short duration, about a half dozen runs lasting five minutes or less each. This is documented conclusively by the VMWare logfiles, for the warning times are sandwiched between the VM start and stop times that appear in the logs. There were two such warnings when I discovered the issue on 7/14. While I can't consistently repro it, I managed to get two new warnings out of several attempts within the first few minutes of starting the VMs. I have no idea what aspect of using the VMs triggers it. I run the VMs in windows and never mess with the Unity mode. They are vanilla installs, new copies of VMs I built on my i5 750 system and archived for easy restoration, and basically I've just been verifying they work.

My system is as follows, and I am not now overclocking, nor have I ever overclocked anything:

i5 4670 and Hyper 212 Evo

Asus Gryphon Z87, BIOS 1007 and now 1206

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8 GB 1.35v DDR3-1600 DIMMs x 2, 16 GB total

Intel 4600 graphics -> monitor

Nvidia GT430 -> TV

Seasonic X650 PSU

Samsung 830 SSD boot drive, two 2 TB WD Green drives, all TrueCrypted. The VMs are on the SSD.

Windows 7 x64 w/ SP1, fully patched, installed 6/26

VMWare Player 5.0.2 build-1031769

I've observed Processor ID values of 0, 2, 4, and 6, which I don't understand as the CPU is quad-core with no hyperthreading.

The system is stable on Prime95, Aida64, and Intel Linpack, plus MemTest86+ 5.0 RC1. The stress tests do not provoke the warning, nor do they cause excessively high temps. CPU-intensive multitasking that uses all four cores such as transcoding video with Handbrake while doing network file copies or downloading from the Internet while watching video or browsing the web does not cause the warnings. The only thing that causes the warnings is running a VM in VMWare Player, and it tends to happen within the first few minutes, when CPU usage is nil.

I've had no BSODs or abnormal behavior of any kind; this new system has been great. That said, these warnings are still troubling. From googling, I've learned that overclockers commonly observe WHEA-Logger warnings when stressing the system under extreme overclocking, and they say the solution is usually more vCore. However, I'm not overclocking, and I don't think the 4670 is capable of it anyway. Besides, the warnings occur when my system is basically idle and only when running a VM in VMWare Player. They don't occur at any other times.

Has anyone heard of a problem like this with VMWare Player? Are there any Haswell users who don't observe this problem with VMWare Player?

added a vmdk to a player VM

Hello – I was trying to add a (existing) vmdk drive to my vm running under player – the vmdk was a result of a conversion, using the vm converter from a virtual pc to to player vm –

When I when to add the existing vmdk to the new VM, I got a message saying that the vmdk I was trying to add would not work in older version of player – is there a way to get around this?

VMware tools 9.2.0 not installing in Debian 6.0.5

I am making a fresh installation of Debian 6.0.5 64-bit under Windows 7 based VMware player. That done, I'm trying to install VMware tools 9.2.0 in it:

apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)

apt-get install make

./vmware-install.pl

Gcc is found fine, but then I get this error:

The path "" is not a valid path to the 2.6.32-5-amd64 kernel headers.

Trying the older version 8.8.4 finds the headers just fine (and installs) in the very same setup. Using the path

/lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/build/include

in the 9.2.0 installation is not accepted and the installation script still complains that the path is not valid.

Please assist.

VMware Player 6.0.1: Howto start from command line, e.g. where is vmrun?

0
0

Hi,

I installed VMware Player 6.0.1 on openSUSE 3.1 using the serial number that I received with Fusion Professional 6.0.2.

Virtual machines run well if they are started via the GUI but I would like to start them via command line.

Question: How can I start virtual machines from command line? I read that vmrun should do the jobs but I can not find that command.

Did a search over my whole system: no file vmrun can be found.

Any idea, where I get vmrun from?

Thanks for your help,

Fred

Player 6. Will no longer uninstall/install. Player network adapter gone.

I had Player 6 installed in win 7 ultimate x64 host with a win 8 pro x64 client vm running basically fine for awhile.  Then my laptop started having power/network related problems.  I had to re-install the JMicron network driver a few times to get my wireless networking going.  But then my pc kept showing the network system tray icon with no bars and a gold asterik.  I was connected to the internet, but clicking the icon showed 2 networks connected with one being unidentified.

My pc vendor support via TeamViewer solved the problem by cleaning files/(else?) and removing the TWO VMWare network adapters that showed up in windows 7 host.  Going back to run my vm it works, but of course there is now no network connection.

To try to solve this I tried to uninstall Player from add and remove programs, but just a blank VMWare dialog box displays and is stuck there.  I killed the VMWare installer process then tried to re-install over VMPlayer with the original installer executable only to face the same result.  I still have the Player and vm working, but still crippled.

Can anybody help unstick me and get networking in the vm again?

Can I delete "windows.iso" in guestOS AFTER installation?

After the successful installation of VmWare tools in Win 7 guestOS I observed that the file

C:\Program files (x86)\VmWare\tools-windows\windows.iso

is NOT removed automatically.

Can I remove this file or is it accessed/needed later (again)?

I want to reduce as much *.vmdk hard disc space as possible.

Maus gefangen in Player: Lösung

HI Forum,

Why not always select USB compatibility = 3.0 in hardware configuration?

0
0

When I go to hardware configuration of a VM in the section "USB Controller" then there is a drop down box

which let me select the USB compatibility.

On my notebook I have 2 USB v3.0 and two USB v2.0 plugins and I confuse oftentimes which plugin belongs to which USB version.

So why not always select here v3.0?

USB v3.0 is downward compatible with v2.0

When the VM cannot connect to a v3.0 USB stick it falls back to USB v2.0 and thats it.

Is there any disadvantage of selection v3.0 here?

How to specify the maximum possible/initial screen resolution (in *.vmx ?)?

0
0

As far as I know the booting guestOS tries to find out at first what the maximum possible/current screen resolution is (similarly to the "normal" hostOS).

Then the guestOS adjusts the initial screen size. Only if the user enters its loginname and password the individual customized resolution becomes effective

However I want to change (increase) already the initial predefined screen size.

As far as I remember I can do this in *.vmx file.

How exactly can I achieve this? Whats the corresponding option name?

Thank you

Matt

Physical Network Adapter disappears after install - Win 8.1

Have installed Windows 8.1 but need to use a virtualisation solution like Vmware player or Virtualbox to run sandpit windows 7 desktops. Problem im having is each time i install te software and it installs the virtual network adapters (i.e. vmNet0, vmNet8 etc), the native Win 8.1 OS drops the physical Ethernet network adapter (Broadcom). You cant see it in device manager, cant scan hardware for it etc and even after re-installing the drivers the ONLY way to get it back is by uninstalling the virtualisation software

Any ideas? How come the two adapter types cant co-exist in 8.1, this worked merrily in 7/7.1?

SOS - network inhibited by windows 8.1

I've installed vmware player 6.01 built 1379775 in win8 on a Samsung NP900X3E,to use winXP. It has well functioned until I've upgraded win8 in win8.1

From such moment the virtual machine wasn't able to recognize the wi-fi (or other connectiton) of the pc (the same that is regularly functioning in win8.1)

I've tried to set a different network adapter into the vm ware settings, to reinstall the tools, to change some permissions settings of the Windows network but nothing to do.

Can you help me to solve the problem? thanks to all

Specifying number of processors in VM hardware settings = maximum or always?

0
0

As you know I can specify for each VM its hardware configuration.

When I go now to the "Hardware" tab then the default for "Processors" is "1".

I have a quad core CPU system and would like to use 2 CPU cores for this VM.

So when I specify 2 ist fine on the current computer.

However I could imagine that I copy/move this VM sometimes to  a single-core CPU system.

What happens then?

Is the "Processors" value only a maximum of CPUs to be used

or is it an ALWAYS use number of cores option?

Booting VM from USB stick: USB not detected/locked by hostOS

0
0

Assume I have a running Win7 guestOS inside a Win7 hostOS. guestOS runs fine when started from vmdk hard disc.

Now I plugin a bootable USB stick and restart the guestOS VM.

When the VM BIOS screen appears I press ESC to get the Boot menu and select

"Removable device" since I want to boot the guestOS from USB stick.

Unfortunately guestOS  VM does not recognize the USB stick and boots "as normal" from its vmdk hard disc.

Yes, the boot sequence in VM BIOS lists "removable device" on top as well (this shouldn't matter when I press ESC in Boot screen)

And yes, VMplayers menu

Player-->Removable Devices-->Sandisk

is connected (after boot).

It seems to me that the hostOS locks somehow the USB stick so that it is not available for the guestOS VM.

How do I tell otherwise the VM to boot from USB stick if present?

Problems with Wireless connection

0

Hi,

I read already several questions about trouble configuring the VMWare Player to recognize the wireless adapter, but I could not solve my problem.

I don't understand much about this, I am trying to have a Linux virtual machine in my laptop, so I can install some special program made for it.

However, I can't use my wireless connection for some reason. How can I solve it (I'm a noob)?

Thanks.
