Autoconnecting USB devices stopped working

$
0
0

Since upgrading to VMware Player 15.5.0 build-14665864 on Windows 10 Pro, autoconnecting USB devices doesn’t work anymore.  I get an “unknown error”.  Furthermore, sometimes all USB devices disappear from the list of removable devices in the menu. I then have to restart Windows. None of these issues existed with the version of VMware Player that I previously had installed.

Here’s what I have in my “vmx” file (Linux VM):

usb.autoConnect.device0 = "0x04e6:0xe003"

usb.autoConnect.device1 = "0x0525:0xa4a2"

usb.autoConnect.device3 = "0x0b6a:0x003c"

usb.autoConnect.device4 = "0x0b6a:0x4402"

To be able to access the devices, I have to remove the above lines and then manually add devices using the menu.

Is there any workaround? Or should I wait for the next bugfix release?

VmWare Player 14 problems on Ryzen system

$

I've recently got a new PC with a Ryzen 3900X, RTX 2080, and Gigabyte Xtreme as motherboard. CPU virtualization is enabled in the BIOS.

While setting up the system I installed the latest version of VmWare Player available, 14.1.7. I'm using two VMs, Windows 7 x64 and Windows XP and both have the same problem.

Upon starting the VM, it hangs on a black screen before showing the VmWare logo. VmWare Player is responsive but the machine itself is busy, I cannot restart, suspend, or do anything with it. If I try to close VmWare the program either pops up a box saying "the VM is busy" or just does nothing, and I have to kill the process from task manager. Unless I restart the system, the VM remains locked even through explorer.

I've tried to uninstall VmWar Player and install an older version, 14.1.4, but the behaviour remains. I also have a notebook with an Intel CPU and the same VM works as it should.

Is there any incompatibility with Player 14 and Ryzen CPUs? Or is it something else? I can't quite figure out what could be, both notebook and desktop are running a fully upgraded Win10 and the same antivirus/firewall (Bitdefender). On my previous desktop system (again Intel CPU) this never happened.

Huge lag in virtual sessions?

Ever since i upgraded my system (and i upgraded it specifically to work on more wmware instances at once), i have unbearable lag inside the virtual station. When i was on very old i5 and win 7, i could run several instances without any lag. Only drawback was system would become overall laggy after it's been running for 10+ days.

So i upgraded to i9-9900k, nvidia 2080 and 32gb RAM and win 10.

Well, thing is, as soon as i open 1 virtual instance, the instance is unbearably laggy. By that i mean that even my mouse movement is slow. None of this is on the main system. As soon as i break out of the virtual instance it's fast again (so my main computer installation is unaffected by any of this). But everything inside the instance is ultra slow. Firefox loads up 4 minutes etc etc.

My instances are usually 4gb ram win 7 installations with 2 processors and 40gb HDD. I don't run any games on them, or anything graphically heavy. It's mostly browser type activity.

So far, what i have tried (but none of it fixed the issue).

1. Changed processor counts from 2 to 1

2. Removed 3d acceleration inside the instance

3. changed RAM sizes all the way to 16gb

4. clicked "virtualize intel VT....

5. Clicked "virtualize cpu performance.."

6. Clicked both of those (i have no idea what they do but heck i tried).

7. Reinstalled wmvare tools.

Things i've noticed:

1. Sometimes virtual instance fine and fast after a restart. So i would open it for the 1st time, it would be laggy, i'd restart it by doing a restart in the instance, it would come up fast. it stays this way some time after, mostly untill i fire up a game or video

2. Noticed firing up a game or video makes it laggy. Main installation doesn't display any of the lag.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Maybe link me to some fullproof step by step installation of one wmvare instance all the way from picking an OS, to installing and setting EVERYTHING up in the instance and once the OS is loaded? maybe im not doing something correct while im installing these instances, although not sure what as everything worked normally on previous system that was 10 times worse then this one.

VMware Player 15 compact hard disk not working

I have a VM runiing CentOS in it.

After deleting some files with several GB in size within the VM i shut it down and selected "Edit virtual machine settings" - "Hard Disk" - "Compact" to compact the disk and save space on the host.

This doesnt work. There is no progress bar appearing - it says directly "The disk was successfully compacted". But it wasnt. The current size did not change.

Same happens with "Defragment".

Convert HP computer to virtual machine (Windows 7)

$

Hi everyone,

i'm now trying to convert a physical computer (HP laptop) to a virtual machine (Windows 7).

I've did the conversion with the VMWare converter software. Everything were done.

Now i'm trying to start the computer into the VMWare  Workstation Player 15.5 but it's not working, i get a blue screen (of the death!!) on the Windows startup.

To give you more details : the first startup of the VM, Windows started until the the login screen (i've seen the name of the Windows  session). Keyboard and mouse was not working (nothing was happend when i moved the mouse or type on the "TAB" touch of the keyboard...), and 30 seconds after i've getted the first bluescreen and now when i start the virtual machine Windows crash (blue screen) after 5 secs (i can't see the login screen of Windows)

I've tried the "automatically repair tool" of Windows but the message is "Windows can't repair automatically this computer"

The last thing about the automatically repair tool, when i've finished i get a prompt from VMWare Workstation player (attached at "RemovablesDevices.png")

I've tried to start the Windows virtual machine in safe mode but i get also a bluescreen. When i'm trying to start the computer in a safe mode i can see that the bluescreen happend when the computer try to load a driver. The last driver that i can see in loading (or loaded) is : \Windowssystem32\drivers\disk.sys

I attach the file log "vmware.log".

When the VM crash in the log:

Since I updated Workstation Player to 15.5 - I am having an issue with my shared folder

Host: Windows 10

Guest: Ubuntu 18.04

I have a shared folder that mounts fine, I can see the files/folders, but when I try to create a new file/folder using Nautilus, I get the error in the title if the name is longer than 1 character. I can create longer folder names via terminal, and I can create as many folders 'deep' as I want, but as soon as I add a second character on the file name, I get the error.

Thoughts?

Windows 7 OpenGL

I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad with i5 processor and 8gb of ram. It dual boots Windows 10 and a version of Linux. I use Linux 99%. Within Linux, I run VMWare with a Windows 7 guest. I am trying to run a program in Win 7 called Sketchup ver. 18 and it requires OpenGL 3.0 or greater. It won't run saying the OpenGL is not a high enough version. If I boot Windows 10 on the same Thinkpad (not within VMWare), Sketchup ver. 18 runs just fine. I am trying to determine if the OpenGL limitations are a function of VMWare or Windows 7 and how to fix it if possible. The Win 7 guest does have VMWare Tools installed. Thanks.

VMWare 15.5.0 refuses to actuate my virtual machine

Until yesterday, I had a licensed version of VMWare 10 Workstation functioning perfectly.  This morning, Microsoft Update forced an installation of a "cumulative update" 2019-09 which SABOTAGED by functional VMWare 10 and refused to allow it to run at all.  Instead, they demanded that I go to the MIcrosoft Store to download the free version of VMWare 15.5.0.  When I try to bring up my long perfectly functioning virtual machine (for Windows 98), the 15.5.0 ABORTS with an error message "The SHELL32.DLL file is linked to missing export SHLWAPI.DLL tFileAttributesA".  While I would really prefer to get my VMWare 10 Workstation back in operation despite the judicially noticed "convicted criminal predatory monopolist" demand that it never run again, perhaps there is some way to get the free version of VMWare 15.5.0 to actually work?!?

Inter Ubuntu 18.04 VM servers communication failed.

Hello Forum,

Recently I have installed VM Player workstation free version and create 3 VMs with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS server.

After disabling firewall from all the servers, ping responds "Destination Protocol unreachable".

Host: Windows 10

VMs: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

We would like to build data center like

1. App server - main server

2. Cassandra cluster - 2 nodes

Individually both the nodes are configured and working fine

1. Why Ping is not working ?

2. How do I make available those VM servers into public?

Kindly let me know the issues and work around solutions.

Thanks

Windows 10 pop-up message: "VMWare Workstation Pro can't run on Windows" (Solved )

Hello,

I have been using VMware-player-12.1.1-3770994 for several months mostly every day up until last night on my Windows 10.

Tonight I returned and tried to start VMWare but getting Windows 10 pop-up message: "VMWare Workstation Pro can't run on Windows" from the "Compatibility Assistant" with  with option to check for updates. Clicking that option brings me to the "VMware Workstation 15.5.0 Player for Windows 64-bit Operating Systems" download page.

Looking at my "Installed Updates" I see updates from Yesterday (10/04/19-KB4524147) and the day before  (10/03/19 - KB4516115)

SOLUTION <temporarily?>: Removed (10/04/19-KB4524147) and able to start & load VMWare.

However, I would like to keep up with latest updates. Will newer players (e.g. v15) work with latest Windows 10 updates?

Thanks and regards,

Doug

VMWare 15.5 Problems with Windows 10

Hi, I recently started using VMWare again after about a year and at first it said it can not open on windows 10 then after updated it sends an error message which I have attached. I have no idea how to fix this and I called VMWare customer support but they have not been very helpful.

Restoring VMware Player.

Can I make a restorepoint Windows 10 and restore it after a crash?

Can I use EaseUS ToDo to make and reset an image?

This are 2 important questions for me. Once I had an error in my VMware

Player. I lost my inetrnet connection. So I had tot set back my old installation files of

Win10 x64. So I could repair my internet connection.

With a restorepoint or an image was it an easier way.

"Corrupt" VM

$

I have a problem with a Windows 7 x64 VM run on VmWare Player 14.

At first I thought it was due to a new system with a Ryzen CPU, but then I was unwillingly able to recreate the problem on a system where the same VM always worked. The problem is that if I put any program in the VM to fullscreen, the VM then refuses to restart once shutdown.

Here's what happens if I try to run the VM:

I start up VmWare Player, select the VM, hit play

VM starts, black screen with the popup "to direct input to this VM" etc etc.

VM hangs there.

Usually i would have resized the screen to 320x240 (I think) and shown the VmWare logo, but it doesn't even get there.

VmWare Player is responsive but it's not able to close, I need to kill the process. VM files on disk are locked and I need to reboot the host to get access to them. However, no matter how many temp files I deleted, I get the same error.

Now I'm stuck with this VM I can't apparently use anywhere. Is there a way to boot "repair" the VM or maybe boot Windows in safe mode through the VM, or any other solution to the problem?

I have a plain Jane Windows 2019 Server Basic with absolutely nothing added on.

When I try to run VMWare Workstation Player 15.5, 2 errors come up

VMware Player and Hyper-V are not compatible. Remove the Hyper-V role from the system before running VMware Player.

AND

Error while powering on: Transport (VMDB) error -14: Pipe connection has been broken.

Oddly enough I don't even have Hyper-V installed on my server. I've checked and even reinstalled Windows 2019 all over again

I have found this error pertaining to a VMWare Workstation Player hosted on a Windows 10 machine and not a Windows 2019 Server.

I have even tried implementing the Windows 10 fix to Windows 2019 to no avail.

Additionally, I have even tried executing the following command;

bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off

Please help

Thanx

VMware WS 15.5 - USB device not connecting to the running virtual machine

$

Hi,

I have recently been forced to upgrade from VMware workstation player 12 to the latest version (15.5) due to the latest windows 10 update.

I have changed the setting so that USB devices should connect directly into the VM that is in the foreground, but this doesn't seem to work for my dongles.

I often have 6 VM's running at the same time and connect a dongle to each one. This worked fine on version 12 but now it's a complete ball ache trying to connect them all manually through Removeable Devices > Connect.

Is there any way for me to fix this or is it a bug? I don't get how it used to work fine 3 versions ago but not now.

The most annoying thing is, when I connect the 2nd/3rd/4th etc. dongle they connect to the first VM I opened so I have to go in and manually disconnect it from there and then connect it to the one I want it connected to.

Thanks

Jake

Torrent clients not connectable in virtual machines.

Hi I'm running Workstation 12 player on Windows 10 and I'm running both Ubuntu and Windows 10 virtual machines. The issue I'm having is that torrents download fine with qbittorrent and deluge but with both I get yellow/red connection signs and get a red check mark when testing the port in deluge. I do manage to upload as well but it's really poor performance compared to what I get on my original windows and I guess this connection issue might be causing it? I have tried changing ports and even using the same port on the original windows pc which has a green connection but nothing helps.

So what's the issue here? Does the traffic go through another port since they are on the virtual machines? What can I do to fix it?

How can I allow write permissions in shared folder?

I added a shared folder virtual machine - host. However I cannot save files in the shared folder from software like Word. I guess is a permissions rights problem because the message "There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost" is displayed in word.

I went to the folder in the virtual machine -> right click -> Properties and it has the Attribute "Read-only". I already unselected it and applied the changes. However it gets selected again automatically.

Does anyone have had this issue and knows how to solve it?
