Uninstall VMware Player from Windows 8

I had VMware Player installed on a Windows 7 machine, and then upgraded to Windows 8. The next time I opened VMware Player, I was prompted to upgrade. I accepted, but was then told I could not perfom the upgrade as VMware Player cannot be installed when Hyper-V is installed. Well, Windows 8 comes with Hyper-V pre-installed out of the box, and I do not intend to disable this for VMware Player. So I went to uninstall VMware Player, but the uninstaller will not proceed for the same reason indicating that it cannot be used on a machine with Hyper-V installed.

How can I uninstall the VMware Player application from a Windows 8 machine without disabling/turning off all of the OOB Hyper-V functionality?

Thanks.

Hardware backward compatibility in VMware Player 5

Hello!

I have a VMware virtual machine with Windows XP on it. On this machine I have some special program that license file is bounded to this machine (if you change hardware then the license will be invalid). I work with this program (the license is valid) if I start the vm from VMware Player 3.1.6 build-744570. The problem has occurred after I've updated VMware Player to version 5 - my program inform me that the license is not valid, because hardware was changed. Is there any kind of way to run my vm in VMware Player 5 with hardware backward compatibility to VMware Player 3.1.6?

I will appreciate for any answer.

OS hung at Starting VMware Tools services in the virtual machine - Switching to guest configuration

My OS (CentOS) has hung at "Starting VMware Tools services in the virtual machine - Switching to guest configuration"

(This was seen by looking at details when CentOS was booting)

I did make some configuration changes that could have caused this but not sure which one.  Is there anyway I can boot into a different mode and stop linux from trying to start VMware tools services?  I think this would fix it if it were possible.  I have only waited 30 minutes.. maybe it will eventually give up and continue the boot process?

This answer might require both VMware and linux expertise.  I appreciate any help.  Thanks.

Using VMWare as a host - clients cannot connect.

Hello.

I'm using the latest version of VMWare, along with OS Microsoft Server 2008 32bit.

Both machines (host and VM) have the same external IP. All ports are forwarded.

Whenever I'm tried to run a server (for example, TeamSpeak 3 - using port 9987) nobody can connect to it using my external IP (for example - 87.122.72.16:9987).

However, if I'm running it on my own OS, people can easily connect using the same IP.

Any ideas? What should I do? It's the same for any program with every single port.

Thanks in advance,

Ariel.

critical files/folders for successful launch of VMware Tools

Is there a list somewhere on here that states what files/folders/permissions have a hand in the successful operation of VMware Tools and its associated service?scattere

I am assuming there is probably a main folder for which VMware Tools was installed to but also probably other files that are scattered throughout the particular OS (in my case CentOS).

VMWare Player Freezes Host (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit)

I was having this problem with Player v 3.0 and just recently upgraded to 3.1 and I still have the same problem.

The guest vm is Windows Server 2003 32bit (x86).

When the system freezes is inconsistent and sometimes happens when I am using the VM or anytime after I have launched then suspened/shut down the VM.

The event log for Windows reports no errors.

On my I7 system I've successfully updated the following virtual machines

XP 32 bit

XP 64 bit

W7 64 bit

Linux 32 bit

Linux 64 bit

I also successfully upgraded Player 3.16 to 5.01

Two weeks before now I've installed Apple's iTunes and FreeMake software for converting mp4 videos to mp3 music files.

From time to time the VM stalled and the cpu was at 100%. The VM was as good as useless since it was completely unresponsive. Working at the host was fairly workable but the performance got poorer and poorer.

This hiccup occurred randomly but on 32 bit systems it didn't: all my 32 bit XP and Linux seemed to be working properly whilst the cpu got eaten by something which I didn't know before.

Installing a trial copy of Windows 8 failed completely because of the 100% cpu problem. Also a linux 64 bit install seemed to get lost because some stupid process has eaten up my processor, ugh!

I really got frustrated and I started up my TaskManager and looked for services. I searched for Apple and FreeMake. The cpu still sat on 100% so the performace is as lousy like Dutch weather! Upon stopping a FreeMake Video Conversion service the cpu usage dropped from 100% to a mere 15% and all stalled applications started to continue and the Linux 64 VM began to suspend. The request for suspending didn't seem to arrive to VMWare Player and now it arrived. So my 64 bit Linux had been rescued from an agonising death!

I all deleted the Apple and FreeMake software titles from my computer and I'm still without any issue.

All the VMs that stopped under Apple and FreeMake working now work perfectly! So I can now try Windows 8 now!

Hi all,

So im just getitng started with VMware player and ive a couple of newb questions.

Im looking at running 2 or 3 VMs on my Windows7 x86 machine. I downloaded win7 x86 from MS Windows site and it came as an .exe, (same with an Ubuntu OS i downloaded). So am I right in saying VMware Player will only load ISOs or from a disk? if this is the case can I convert from the .exe to an ISO? if not what are my options? how do i get started with installing some OSs?

thanks in advance

Adding physical hard drive

Hi,

Using VCenter Converter I created a virtual machine of my actual PC which runs Windows7 64bit. When I try to add a partition on the SSD to the guest as physical hard disk it gives the error: "cannot open the disk xxx .vmdk or one of the snapshot disks it depends on".

The SSD has C and D partitions. The virtual machine files are in the D partition. Is this the reason why I can't add that partition to the guest? Does it have to be a different partition than C and D? Or is the problem related to having an IDE virtual hard disk in the guest instead scsi?

Details:

Host OS: windows 7 64 bit home premium

Guest US: windows 7 64 bit home premium

Host Motherboard: asrock h77 pro4-m

Host Primary Drive: SSD with C and D partitions

Problem: Can't use USB3 ports in guest, can't add D partition as physical drive to guest

Software I use: VMware Player, vCenter Converter

Thanks

Edit:

I added the D drive as a shared folder. It seems to work fine although I think I need to change some permission settings. I could create and edit a text file but not rename it.

Minimum resolution with Ubuntu 12.10

I'm running a VM of Ubuntu in Win7 and it works fine in fullscreen. When I change to windowed mode, however, the window becomes as small as it can possibly be. This is irritating because when I go back to fullscreen, all of the windows in Ubuntu have been resized to tiny and I have to stretch them all back out. I've checked the settings and see nothing that would help me. I've tried to stretch the VM window itself to a certain size, hoping that it would remember that size any time I go to windowed mode. Alas, it does not work and any time I go to windowed mode the VM becomes a tiny window.

How can I make it so that the VM window will not go smaller than a certain size?

Multiple Ubuntu VM's grind too a halt.

Hello All,

OK I am kinda of stumped here.

The back story...  I uses VM's at home and at work. My work machine works perfectly and I am generally no stranger to setting these up.

I was dual booting Unbuntu at home but I missed the convience of the VMware player in switching back and forth with out rebooting so I decide to create new VMs at home.

So Windows 8 host and I started with Unbuntu 12.10 as the guest.

I kept having issues once I got the iso installed.  I troubleshot and back tracked but basically could not figure this out.

Once the system starts in the VM it works fine. I get about 5 miins of actually usable time out of the system then it starts to slow down and the freezes.

I have to reset the VM to get it to respond at all.

Chain hard reseting the VM led to other issues as well.

I had deleted and recreated the system twice and the same issues occurred and yes I downloaded and installed te VM tools.

Getting more and more ticked off at Ubuntu 12.10 I created a new VM for Unbuntu 12.04LTS the stable release that was working just fine as "dual boot" OS on this same hardware.

The real fun one is that Ubuntu 12.04 now acts exactly the same as 12.10 and I have no usable Ubuntu VMs now.

I am stumped and I am guessing I am doing something wrong.

I use VMs all day and have a handful of them set up at work  I had working Ubuntu 12.04 set up as dual booting on my home hardware

I have to have something going on with my home WMware player.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Clayton

failing to install VMware on ubuntu 12.04

Hey guys;

I'm having a few troubles installing VMware on my computer.

I type the following into the terminal:
/Documents$ sudo sh VMware-Player-5.0.0-812388.x86_64.bundle[CODE/]

The GUI appears and I follow the prompts, I get to the final stage where it asks me if I wish to remove the configuration files, I give a response (tried both) and it pops up with "Installation was unsuccessful". I look at the terminal for any error codes, and the only one that appears is:
Extracting VMware Installer...done.
Would anyone be able to help me fix this?

Thanks in advance guys!

Is MS Windows Server 2008 a supported Host OS for Player 4 or 5?

I'm interested in running a Windows XP VM on a Windows SBS2008 64bit server to allow other users to gain access to a simple application. I am trying to find the supported Host OS list for Player 4 or 5 but the Compatibility Guide is almost unusable (or I'm not getting the layout and usage right).

Can anyone tell me if Player 4 or 5 is fully supported on Windows Server 2008 or SBS 2008? I believe VMware Server 2.0.2 is no longer a fully supported VMware product, but if this is not true, please let me know.

Any help or diection on this question would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Why SCSI By Default?

$

I use VMware Player 5.01 on Windows 7 x64. It appears that by default, VMware Player creates a SCSI disk rather than an IDE disk.

I was under the impression that SCSI is designed for high-performance workstations and servers, while desktop and laptop computers use IDE disks. Yet, based on a Google search, it doesn't appear to be any big deal that VMware Player creates a SCSI disk by default.

Why does Player create a SCSI disk by default, and - more importantly, since I create VMs to be consumer-type computers for my personal use - should I delete my existing VM and re-do it with an IDE disk?

User rights to Configure Network Adapters

I installed VMware Player 5 on a Windows XP host.

Users member of the Administrators group can configure bridged network adapters, other users cannot.

How can I allow users that are not member of the Administrators group configure bridged network adapters and associate them to the host's network adapters?

Hardware level

How can I change the hardware level of a VM created with VMware Player in order to run it on a different version of VMware Player?

I noticed I can use VMware Converter, but it takes a long time and duplicates the VM.

Is there any simpler way?

I am experiencing warnings in my event viewer every time I boot my PC.

 • I have a new EVGA X79 motherboard
 • It contains the ASMedia ASM1042 chipset for USB 3.0 support
 • Running VMWare Player 4.0.3
 • Source: hcmon; Warning: Detected unrecognized USB driver "\Driver\asmtxhci"
 • Source: hcmon; Warning: Detected unrecognized USB driver "\Driver\pci"

I believe the HCMON service is from VMWare. Any suggestions how I can resolve the warnings would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, first of all is not my first time using VMWare Player under Centos 5.5 x32 arhitecture but is my first time when I meet this problem and don't have any ideea how to solve it. So, I have a windows xp x64 installed on my VMWare Player to run a database and I can't acces it from centos because something blocks me under host-only setting, I tried NAT and is fully working but can't use it in daily use because of security reasons. I deactivated Windows Firewall so that can't be a problem and the windows don't own another security program which can block the connectivity, few times when booted windows with host only network adapted setting I had a strange IP, you may see in screenshot on ifconfig on vmnet1 "172.16.114.1". I think normal IPs are 192.168.x.x ? I have attached 2 screenshots and vmnet 1 and 8 folders from /etc/vmware/ to realize what I want to say, hope you can help me to solve this problem fast. Thank you.
