How to make vmware player undetectable

VMWare Player 5 Sound jitter on HOST while starting VM

Running Player 5.

From the moment I start a VM the sound on the host turn to jitter. VM seems to be starting delayed as if it is constantly being interrupted by the sound on the host.

After the VM is started the sound on the host returns to normal.

This occurs with both Linux VM's as Windows VMs.

System Windows 7 X86.

Laptop: HP 8530w, 4GB.

Does anyone else experience this?

Retested this with 5.01, same problem.

Can someone have any idea on this ?

"Easy Install failed to install VMware tools"

As I started to create a VM for Ubuntu 12.10, VMware Player displayed a message saying that it recognizes this OS and will install it and VMware Tools with Easy Install. "Great idea," I thought to myself "I'm all in favor of easy."

And the install went fabulous, until VMware Player tried to install VMware Tools. That's where the process froze and went no further. Now, every time I try to start my VM the screen says "Installing VMware Tools...Please Wait."

How can I fix this?

VMware Player 5 doesn't recognize my USB floppy drive

I recently upgraded to the latest version of Player. VM no longer recognizes my USB floppy drive. It worked under the old version. I can plug it in and see it under Windows 7, but when I go to VM and try to connect to it, I get a message that the device is busy and it won't connect. When I go back to W7, the floppy drive is gone from the device list. I have to unplug it and reconnect to it for W7 to see it again. Going back to VM again, the same thing happens. Never had this issue with the old version of Player. Anyone have a fix for this?

Upgraded to Player 5 - Can't launch VM from shortcut anymore.

Since installing Player 5, my desktop shortcut to a VM no longer works.  When I click it, instead of lauching the VM, it peppers my Desktop with temp files and then complains it cannot find the VM.  Has anyone else run into this issue?

vmrun with "nogui" option fails to start the VM

Hi,

I'm currently running a 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 install, and am having problems getting VMware Player working from the command line.  Specifically, I'm getting an "Error: Unknown error" when trying to invoke vmrun with the nogui option:

> vmrun -T player list

Total running VMs: 0

> vmrun -T player start /opt/Test/Test.vmx nogui

Error: Unknown error

The strange part is, running the above command without the "nogui" option works fine: the VMware Player window pops up and the VM starts normally.  But I'd like to eventually move over to a server platform, and run VM commands on a headless machine (SSH access only), hence the need for using nogui.

Here's the logfile (/opt/Test/vmware.log) generated after vmrun -T player start /opt/Test/Test.vmx nogui was run:

Looks like the difference between the two is that nogui doesn't understand the 'OS_PowerOn' command, and thus never starts the VM, which leads to an idle timeout.  Any suggestions on how to work around this?  I'm using VMware Player 5.0.0 with VMware VIX 1.12.0, both of them the 64-bit versions.

For troubleshooting, I've tried downgrading both VMware Player and VMware VIX, with no results.  Also followed the instructions in the VIX user manual.  I've tried downgrading my OS to Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit, but the same problem persists.

Lost of Internet connection after activating VPN in host

Dear all:

I was using W7 XP Mode but the integration with the host was poor (coping files and microphone does not work, among others). So I installed VMPlayer4 and it works perfectly, however, when I start a VPN in the host (to work remotely with a client), the internet connection in the guest VM is lost. The funny thing is that in the VM with XPMode this does not happens, I mean, when I start the VPN in the host then the guest with XPMode does not lost connection with Internet. Can I modify the settings in VMPlayer in order to keep the Internet connection after starting the VPN in the host?.

Thank you very much

Best Regards

VM player fails to power of after Windows shutdown

$

Hi group,

I'm relatively new to VMware and I'm sitting with a annoying issue that I haven't been able to find a solution for on the www.

When I shut down Windows within my VM player it shuts down fine, but the VM player itself stalls with a black screen after the shut down, and the only way to kill it is from the task manager. Shouldn't the VM player automatically power off and shut down after a shut down of the OS image?

I was looking into the Power options here: http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/ws_learning_prefs_vm_options.html#wp1091393

and realised that I don't see the same options in my settings (see image below).

Any help here?

Thanks,

Simon

Help a newbie get started... 2 vmware players 1 computer?

Ok, here goes... Please forgive me if I dont fully understand the complexities or intracities involved, Im trying to get up to speed.

I have a dual core toshiba laptop with win7 on it and 8 gigs RAM I am setting up a proxy server for a couple friends in India here in the USA each one wants thier own DSL line in the USA so they can log into the laptop remotely with team viewer and reset the ATT DSL line to get a new IP address, they each need thier own DSL line and virtual computer to run proxy programs on.

I need to run 2 virtualized win7 boxes on that machine + a local console connected to 3 DSL lines 1 DSL for each of the virtualized boxes and 1 for the console.

This setup is currently running on 3 different computers now and I want to save power (and help the environment) by running it off a extra laptop.

Is this possible?

Ive created a vmware player and installed win7 and it works, but I need to add on another VMware player with another copy of win7 running and make it run off a different DSL line. currently on the laptop it is only using 5-10% of system resources with 1 virtual player running.

Am I looking in the right direction here?

Pointers please?

cannot get poweroff/suspend scripts to run

$

Hi there,

I am out of ideas, maybe somebody here knows the magic trick to get poweroff/suspend scripts to run inside the guest.

I am running VMware Player 4.0.2 on Windows 2003r2 and have a small Ubuntu 10.04 virtual machine I want to run (no GUI, command-line only).

Everything is fine so far, except for me not being able to get the poweroff/suspend VMware tools scripts to run.

I did install the 8.8.2 build 590212 tools without any trouble. I did use the

vmware-toolbox-cmd script power enable

vmware-toolbox-cmd script shutdown enable

vmware-toolbox-cmd script resume enable

vmware-toolbox-cmd script suspend enable

commands and I could verify that all the default scripts are enabled in /etc/vmware-tools/tools.conf.

I created the

/etc/vmware-tools/scripts/poweron-vm-default.d

/etc/vmware-tools/scripts/poweroff-vm-default.d

/etc/vmware-tools/scripts/resume-vm-default.d

/etc/vmware-tools/scripts/suspend-vm-default.d

directories and do have a very simple test.sh (which I made executable, chmod 550) in all four directories, which does nothing but spit out the time is was called into /var/log/vmscripts.log.

The weird thing is: I do get poweron and resume scripts executed just fine, but I can never see poweroff or suspend !!!

So I got desperate and started to google around like crazy, I even set

toolScripts.afterPowerOn="true"

toolScripts.afterResume="true"
toolScripts.beforeSuspend="true"
toolScripts.beforePowerOff="true"

in the VM's .vmx file (which doesn't seem to change anything). No success.

So I thought, maybe it is because 4.0.2 is too new and there seems to have been some screw-up with the tools anyway, so switched back to VMware Player 3.1.5, uninstalled the 8.8.2 tools and installed the 8.4.8 build 491717 tools, just to realize that the effect is exactly the same :-(.

After that I was doing some searching in the host-side logs of the VM (vmware.log) and it seems that for the poweroff and suspend the VMware Player does never actually "call" the script. For poweron and resume I get something like this:

Feb 21 23:10:46.230: vcpu-0| TOOLS sending 'OS_PowerOn' (state=3 callback=0 clientData=0) state change request

But I can never see anything along those lines for poweroff and suspend.

What am I doing wrong???

I cannot believe that this is something not working and not having been noticed by anybody else yet ...

Thanks for some insight

32-bit program with 16-bit installer won't install

I have XP Pro (32 bit) guest runing on a VMPlayer 5.0  virtual machine. The host is Vista 64 bit.   I just installed it yesterday.  Some 32-bbit software that has a 16-bit installer will not load into the virtual machine.  It loads and runs ok using 32-bit XP Pro using  MS Virtual PC on the same host.  When I check the CD Rom drive in the virtual machine it says it is connected.  I get an error message indicating that the installer is incompatible.  Any ideas on how to fix?  Based on what I have read it should load and run OK.

Hi,

just installed vmplayer 3.1. Npow I would like to connect from the host to the guest, e.g. by ssh or http. I know, I have to configure portforwarding with Virtual Network Editor. But where did this tool go? I can't find it nowhere in the player install folder

Does anybody know if it can be installed seperatly from somewhere?

Whither VMware Player 5.0 VMNetCfg.exe?

$

Just upgraded from VMware Player 4.0.4 to the new 5.0.  The old method of obtaining VMNetCfg.exe appears to no longer work.  There is no "network.cab", and none of the .cab files that show up when you /extract have anything looking like VMNetCfg.exe.

How in Player 5.0 do we configure NAT, DHCP, etc. in the VMNetn adapters (what we used to do with VMNetCfg)?  If still VMNetCfg.exe, how to get it?

Thanks!

Win7 clone asks for activation (screenshot attached)

Using vcenter converter standalone, I created a virtual machine from the powered on physical machine. But when I go into the guest it says "activate windows now" although host is already activated.

Which of these do you think might have triggered re-activation?

1. I have an OEM license of Windows 7 Home Premium

2. I have no page file in the host

3. When creating the clone in vcenter I unselected all partitions but the C: drive

4. After creating the clone, in vmware player settings I changed memory from 15.7GB to 4GB

5. I have received an odd message about defragmentation after I rebooted the guest

The odd thing is, this is the second time I created a clone and I didn't reuse any old files from the old clone but instead saying 30 days to activation it continued where the old clone had left and says 3 days to activation. I don't want to reactivate in the guest because it might break the activation in the host.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks

VMWare Player Licensed?

I saw the deal for VMWare Fusion for Mac includes a commercial license for VMWare player, so I was wondering, if I purchase VMWare Fusion can I use the VMWare Player license on my Windows Based machine or is there a better way for me to get a commercial version of VMWare player without having to actually purchase VMWare Workstation?

Connect Two Virtual Machines via LAN connection Using VMWare Player

So this topic may already be posted, but I am at wit's end trying to find a solution. I have VMWare player 3.1.4 installed on a Windows 7 enterprise_x64 system. I have configured two virtual machines: Guest OS1: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.5_x64 and Guest OS2: WIndows 7 Ultimate_x64. I need teh Linux server to act as the core server in the system environment I'm trying to create. The Windows 7 VM will be the client PC. The Linux server is configured to be it's own DHCP server, so ideally, the client PC would log into tht domain and also derive its IP address from the Linux server.

I have tried all of the networkign options for each VM, but none sem to create this kind of connectivity. How do I configure the Network settings in VMWare Player so that the two VMs can communicate with each other via a virtual network? (Communication with the host pc isn't neccessary)

map through unknown usb device from host

Hello,

I am having a virtual machine running windows XP on a windows 7 64bit host. The device I attached to usb isn't recognized in Windows 7 because there are no drivers for it. This results showing up as Unknown Device in the device manager.

I want to connect this through to the virtual machine but it doesn't show up in the list of usb devices

I already tried to set HID devices to true in the VMX file, this results in showing up the mouse and keyboard to map but not the Unknown device I want to map.

Is it posible to map through a unkown device and if possible how do I get it to show up?

Virtual Machine Freezing

Hello,

i´m working with the VMware Player 5.0.1 build-894247 on Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit, Service Pack 1. My system is a Dell Precision M4600 notebook and includes several VM's. In all of them I have the problem that they repeatedly freeze at irregular intervals (sometimes every 30 minutes.). Then the Windows 7 host cursor (hourglass) appears and nothing works for about 5-10 seconds. After this Time everything is running normally again. In the log file from the player i found then each time this Line:

"svga| I120: SVGA: Restoring cursor bypass 3 from vm which took 3->2->3 roundtrip"

What is this message?

In my online recherche I only found this knowledgebase article: kb.vmware.com/kb/2007404

Which is not for the player and does not offer a solution. Can somebody help me, thanks.
