How is Windows 7 OEM handled in Player?

$

Hi,

I was about to buy win7 OEM (newegg special) to install as a Player-Guest in my home laptop. In case you are not aware, windows OEM versions cannot be used on a different motherboard (mobo) whereas the Retail version can be. The OEM versions are always a lot cheaper than the Retail, as Retail includes free msoft CS-help and obviously I don't need that.

It then occurred to me that if I change laptops next year to a Surface 3 (when I can afford it), the win7 OEM may be "keyed" to the mobo on this current laptop and no longer work in a new one.

Does win7 (win8. 8.1) key to the Player or the laptop hardware?

I  will need to move the Player Guest .VMDK to another machine at some point.

Thanks

Ownership issue since 6.0.3 update

Since the update from 6.0.2, I am frequently (not every time) getting a couple of messages about Guest ownership when restarting from "Suspend." I click the "OK" buttons for both boxes that pop up and it is happy. But this is often happening several times in a row.

Any thoughts on how to stop this? It doesn't seem to effect anything after clicking the "OK," buttons, but just annoying.

Vmware Player warns me to enable "reserved host RAM" but the option does not exist. Is there a vmx file command for this?

I am running VMware Player on a Ubuntu 14.04 host, Win 7 pro x64 guest.  When I start the guest OS VMWare gives me this warning

Vmware Player Warning.png

So I want to enable the use "reserved host RAM" option instead of messing with the swap file but the setting it is telling me to set does not seem to exist in VMware Player

Is there something I can add to the VMX file to enable this option?

Hard Disk USB3.0 non riconosciuto su porte 3.0 ma solo 2.0

Ciao a tutti

Dell Vostro USB keyboard crashes in W7

Hello

I installed Player 6 on a Dell Vostro laptop and encountered an issue with USB keyboards. The keyboard works before booting into Windows 7 but not after. Also, after booting into Windows, if I unplug the keyboard, my laptop crashes. I found the following articles that describe exactly what I am seeing and a fix that involves a registry edit, removing the VMware keyboard driver:

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19475726.aspx

http://blog.eddsn.com/2012/08/keyboard-and-mouse-not-working-in-windows/

I'm looking for input as to whether I should edit the registry, pros and cons of doing so or if there is a better solution

Thanks

CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION in Version 6.0.3

$

Hi,

I'm using VMWare Player 6.0.3 for running a 64 Bit Ubuntu machine under Windows 8.1. When I start a Virtualbox Vagrant machine (64 Bit Debian) inside the Ubuntu machine, I get Windows bluescreens approximately every half an hour with a CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION error. I have already read that there were such errors in earlier versions of VMWare Player that have been fixed, however the problem still exists in the latest version given my setup. Is there any possible fix for this problem?

Thank you,

Jörg

Host time communication with guest OS

Hi,

I am a novice user .We know that VMware Tools resets the guest operating system’s clock to match the host’s clock upon startup.

Is there anyway to stop this communication?

Why are some (old) games jerking, (some) new games not?

I use VMWare Player with Windows XP to play old games. I have installed a lot of games, but many old games are jerking and are unplayable. For Example Command & Conquer 1 (The Ultimate Edition Version) or Project IGI. Other games like Far Cry 2 or Project IGI 2 running with high graphics details very fine. I dont understand this.I want to test some more games. If some newer games are unplayable it´s locical, because WMWare Player is only a guest-system, but old games dont need much power and some new games which need more power are very good playable.

vmware Player Problems on Windows 8.1

I had running vmware player on different Windows version and with Windwos 7 as guest without any Problems. Installed the Player on a Windows 8.1 64 System I have some trouble. Not with the player and not with the guest system, but with the host system. I am sure vmware player is the reason for that. Sometimes the host has unexplainable problems. Some programs take a long time while starting. Windows internet explorer hangs, sometimes the Explorer hangs and so on. There are no abnormal processor loads showing in the taskmanager. After rebooting the host it works, sometimes, but sometimes not. I stopped all running programs and processes without success. When I uninstall vmware player the computer as runs as the first day and for days. After installing the player again, the trouble begins again. I have got the player 6.03 I need some help

Intermittently cannot get focus on VMWare Player app

$

Intermittently, after switching away from VMWare Player, it is not possible to get focus again, and the app/GUI is unresponsive. Mouse pointer can be a hand, hourglass, or arrow pretty much randomly from one occurrence to the next. This is on Windows 7 Home Premium. Currently VMWare Player 6.0.3, although the problem has existed on earlier versions. The guest OSes happen to be Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04.

This is not a question of mouse focus on a VM or guest OS issue. The VMWare Player application itself becomes unresponsive and does not take focus. If I try to alt-tab or minimize other apps while the VMWare Player app is not minimized, the title bar of the app stays grey. If VMWare Player app is minimized, the window will not be viewable until at some point VMWare Player decides to become responsive again. That can take 30 seconds or 30 minutes or longer.

The condition can persist through Windows suspend/hibernate.  It seems like power-related events such as lid close, display off, etc. may be a factor, but I am not sure. The problem happens frequently sometimes (like minutes apart, even with no power-related events), and other times many hours or days will go by without issue. It seems like the guest OS continues to run even while the VMWare Player app GUI is unresponsive. Although the way I use the VMs, usually nothing is happening visually so one would be able to tell. One of these days I could try to SSH into the VM to verify this.

I have tried to search for terms like "vmware player cannot get focus" or "vmware player not responding". But I do not find any references or reports that look like the same issue.

Sound Problems in Guest OS win 95

Set up VM player to run windows 95.

However I cannot get any sound out of it.

Checked and the sound card is connected in settings removed and added it again still no joy.

Tried using creative labs driver for SoundBlaster PCI128 and this causes is BSOD on the VM and I have to go into safe mode and remove drivers.

Saw  a KB article about workstation that said following an upgrade to v10  it cannot run the soundblaster drivers and you had to revert back to a old version of workstation.

does this mean that I've got to find an older version of VMplayer or is there a way to get sound out of this vm model

Host system is windows 8.1

Thanks for any help that can be given

Hi,

I try to use configuration listed in object but all normal USB connected devices (2.0) work very slow!

I also try to modify the parameters in "USB controllers" but without any success.

In the same PC I have another VM with XP Pro SP3 and USB works ok!

What could be the problem?

Thanks in advance

VMWare Player loses contact with shared folder

$

I've created a VM using VMware Player on a Windows 8.1 Pro host; the guest OS is Windows 7.

I don't have sufficient internal disc space on the host for the VMDK files and so I'm using two USB external discs for storage. The configuration is as follows:

The OS .vmdk file and Data .vmdk files are held on one of the external discs.

The other holds a .vhdx file that has been attached on the host so as to appear as another drive, and then this drive has been shared with the VM.

I'm trying to copy quite large amounts of data from the shared drive to the data drive, and all goes well for quite a while - often six hours or more - but eventually the system stalls. There's no way out other than to restart the VM.

Any suggestions as to how to fix this would be most welcome - I'd happily accept more reliable performance even if it's slower!

Thank you

Hello,

i tried to create a virtual machine of my PC and got the following error message:

FAILED: Erstellen eines VSS-Snapshots des/der Quellvolumes nicht möglich. Fehlercode: 127 (0x0000007F).

What would be in english: The creation of a VSS-Snapshot of the Source-Volumes not possible...

2 days ago it worked fine? Does this have something to do with Truecrypt or acronis installed on the machine? (By the way Win7 64 bit installed latest versions of Vmplaywer and Converter couple weeks ago)..

Greetings!

SCSI driver for installing NT4 in Player ?

I am trying to install Win NT4 into Player. When I boot from the cd I receive a message

There is at least one virtual SCSI device installed on this Windows NT virtual machine.

Windows NT does not include drivers for the BusLogic SCSI adapter that VMWare Player uses for virtual SCSI devices.

To use these virtual SCSI devices, install the VMWare driver in the virtual machine. Download the driver from

Can anyone advise ?

I installed a software program that uses the VMware player Version 3.0.1 Build-227600. When I installed the software on my home pc (Windows XP) the program works as it should. However, I tried installing the program on my state-of-the-art work pc (Window 7 64-Bit) and I get an error message that is attached. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

VMware Player and BSOD 0x00000124 ?

$

Hi!

Windows 7 Ent SP1. Test environment. Well, not sure this is caused by VMware Player (6.0.3 build-1895310), but nothing much else working on this device. Have a VM with Windows XP SP3 as guest OS. Shared dir. Suddenly (nothing by hardware changed on host) start happen BSOD with error 0x00000124 which (by Google) points to some hardware issues  – nothing I changed and nothing happen (at least so far) when VMware Player isn't running. Btw. I had on same box running some month or so SLES 11 as guest OS, nothing happen. Maybe, just maybe connected with running VMware Player and WXP as guest OS? Don't  believe it, but ... You never know.

More thanks, Alar.
